It's just that every time Victor Parker calls Polly Sutton, he sounds quite normal and even jokes with her occasionally.
"Your mom scolded you, didn't she?" Polly Sutton broke the casual conversation between Victor Parker and herself by standing at the window.

"She was right to scold me. It's not just that I'm unfilial, I've disregarded the family bond by sending my own mother to prison," Victor Parker said self-deprecatingly, gazing at the night outside.
Polly Sutton turned to look at the two sleeping children, then thought for a moment and walked out.
"But you're trying to save her, aren't you?"
Victor Parker let out a low laugh, "The motive for murder and the evidence are both solid. How can I save her?"
"You'll find a way," Polly Sutton said firmly, "Otherwise, you wouldn't have sent her in."
