Chapter 56 - Balance!

After picking himself up from the crater of the mountain, he relocated himself to a clearing of the vast forest.

Kenta looked up towards the vast blue sky that stretched above his head. He naturally notices that the dark clouds had completely disappeared, and the rays of the sun spilled from the sky.

Even now, for some reason, he could feel his control over his lightning had increased; at his current level, he should be able to summon lightning without the need to create thunderclouds.

He then observed his surroundings. He was going to try something that might leave him in a vulnerable state once he was done. If possible, he wanted to go further into the forest where the probability of being attacked by monsters would be low, "... It's not ideal, but it should do." He muttered to himself.

Strands of Kenta's slightly long blonde hair fluttered in the soft, gentle breeze as his blue ocean eyes sparkled with determination.

He held his hand upwards, and at that moment a single bolt of electricity descended from the sky, falling directly onto the spot where Kenta stood.

"Guh!" Kenta's face winced as a small groan escaped his mouth. He felt the slight pain of the electricity attacking his insides. He bit his lower lip and inadvertently clenched his fist! He used all his willpower to resist the pain.

Purple lightning flickered around his body and condensed. Kenta closed his eyes and used his imagination to control the purple lightning! Suddenly, the lightning bolt split into two and took the form of two purple, transparent and angelic wings that opened wide from his back.

Sweat slid silently down his face as he panted. Once his breathing had become stable, he turned his head to look over his shoulder. "I see... so it's just as I thought. It wasn't my imagination after all." He muttered.

Ever since he meditated and his control over lightning had increased, he had an instinctual feeling he could manually control his lightning more freely, which is something mages couldn't do when using magic.

He closed his eyes and tried controlling his purple wings. Once he commanded them to open, his wings would spread wide like those of a beautiful swan in the middle of a lake; if he commanded them to close, then the purple wings would enclose him and wrap tightly around his body like a cocoon.

After testing out his control over his wings once again, he finally tried flying. Kenta kicked off the ground with a mighty stomp, creating a small crater in the grassy field.

His body lifted off the ground smoothly as he flapped his wings to increase his altitude, "Shit!" He exclaimed.

Just when he was about to soar into the sky, his two purple wings disappeared when he was at least 20 feet above ground.

With his wings now removed, Kenta's body was once again influenced by the law of gravity and fell heavily onto the ground with a thud. He lay down on his back while facing the sky.

Many creatures could be seen flying through the sky in an orderly manner. Kenta observed the way they flew for some time before he got to his feet.

Just before he fell, he felt an imbalance in his wings; his right wing had more magical energy than his left wing.

With that instability, his left wing disappeared, followed by his right wing. "I see... to fly there should be a perfect balance between both wings," Kenta muttered, as he observed the creatures flying in the skies above.

"Hm... maybe I should try-" Kenta thought of something, but was immediately pulled out of his thought as a frown appeared on his face. He could feel the earth beneath his feet vibrating.

STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!

"Hm?" Kenta turned his head in a northerly direction, where the sound of heavy footsteps caught his ear. In the distance, a cloud of dust reflected in his blue pupils. "... That's?" Kenta narrowed his eyes to get a better view of the cloud of dust that was closing the distance between him and.

From within the cloud of dust, a creature could be seen running on its four legs, the exterior of its rough body was covered in stone-like shards, and there were three horns that protruded from its head. The creatures resemble a Rhinoceros! Its red eyes stared at Kenta's left hand that had purple lightning flickering around it. "I see... so it's attracted to lightning. I have studied a lot about monsters and beast but, but I still can't identify this creature." He muttered.

"... Oh well, since it's targeting me, then no mercy must be shown." His voice took on a cold tone as his silhouette became a blur.

Kenta briskly closed the distance between himself and the Rhinoceros-like creature with leisurely steps. 'Should I summon Soul Eater?' He thought for a moment, but then, 'No need! My lightning alone should be enough!' He thought confidently.

Just when the rhinoceros' horn was merely inches away from making contact with his body, he kicked off the ground and leapt over the head of the Rhinoceros. Kenta twisted his body mid-air and landed a spinning kick onto the back of the rhinoceros' head. However, Kenta narrowed his eyes as he saw that his kick didn't even manage to stop the Rhinoceros movements; it was as if his kick didn't even manage to hurt the Rhinoceros at all!

Once Kenta had landed on the ground, he once again closed in on the Rhinoceros from behind, landing several blows onto its hard body with either his kick that was surrounded by purple lightning or his fist.

His fists moved so fast that it gave the false image of multiple fists hitting the body of the Rhinoceros-like creature continuously. However, even after taking multiple attacks from Kenta, its hard body hadn't moved an inch from that spot.

"Tsk, as I thought... This bastard is attracted to my lightning." Kenta muttered bitterly. The Rhinoceros-like creature, far from taking any damage seem to be enjoying getting hit by Kenta's lightning.

Once the Rhinoceros had turned its body to face Kenta's direction, it once again charged forward! Rushing at him with the intention of piercing his body with its horns.

Noticing its intentions, Kenta sneered coldly as he waved his hand. Suddenly, many swords made from purple lightning materialise in mid-air. However, whether it was unconsciously or not, all the purple swords bear a striking resemblance to the 'Soul Eater' Sword!

Seeing the Rhinoceros charging towards him, Kenta sneered coldly as he stretched his right hand outwards. Following his gesture, all the purple swords hovering silently in mid-air turned their trajectory towards the Rhinoceros and shot out at full speed. Streaks of purple lightning trail across the sky, closing the distance between Kenta and the Rhinoceros in an instant!

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

A loud sound echoed through the surroundings, as each of the purple swords made contact with the rhinoceros' tough body, they instantly dispersed into sparks of electricity and scattered away.

Even after being hit by multiple swords, its legs didn't falter in their movements. "What's up with this thing, tough body?" Kenta frowned.

He was slowly starting to consider using Soul Eater. "Hah!" He leapt into the air at the moment when the Rhinoceros was about to hit his body, easily evading the attack!

Once he was a few meters above the head of the Rhinoceros, Kenta used its head as a foothold and leapt once again, ascending even higher into the sky.

Kenta once again felt a slight pain as two purple wings appeared from his back. He sent the same amount of energy to each of his wings so as not to create any instability between them!

Both wings opened up, allowing him to glide through the sky as he slowly descended onto the ground. However, the Rhinoceros continued with its charge.

BANG!

Its giant horns made contact with a massive tree! However, as though that tree was nothing before its mighty horns, the tree toppled over from the powerful force and was smashed into several pieces of broken wood! Even though he had expected that to happen, Kenta was having trouble keeping his brow from twitching.

"If I had received a direct hit, wouldn't I have been sent to meet my parents and great grandparents?" He muttered somewhat sarcastically. While its speed was nothing, its defence and attack power were simply monstrous!

However, "I have had enough of you!" He uttered coldly. The space between Kenta's hand was distorted for a second as a majestic-looking greatsword appeared! "?!" An intimidating pressure was released from Soul Eater, which caused the Rhinoceros to instinctively take a step back.

However, its eyes glowed red as it opened up its huge mouth!

ROOOOOOOAR!

A loud beastlike cry escapes its mouth as a shockwave spreads across the land, "Argh!" Kenta placed both hands against his ear to block out the sound of the Rhinoceros, which was completely unsuccessful, as blood could be seen dripping from each of his ears.

The Rhinoceros once again charged forward; its mighty stomps caused the earth to quake violently under its heavy feet. A dense, dark aura shrouded the blade of the soul eater.

Kenta was too focused on the Rhinoceros-like creature coming towards him to observe his surroundings to notice, but the trees within his surroundings were dying, and even the grass lost its beautiful green colour and withered away!

As though their life energy were being stolen!

Just when the Rhinoceros was at a distance of 5 feet, Kenta swung his sword vertically downwards, and the aura of death covered the body of the Rhinoceros.

ROOOOOOOOOAR!

The Rhinoceros writhed in pain as it thrashed about; the aura of death only continued to devour its huge body. Kenta fell to one knee as he dug the blade of his sword into the ground and used it as a means of support.

His face was extremely pale! He had used a large amount of magical power in his sword, or rather, the soul eater had taken a large amount of his mana to use the aura of death.

As Kenta panted and tried to get his breathing under control, he heard the sound of a small thud! The body of the Rhinoceros had fallen to the ground; there was no trace of its flesh anywhere! Only its tough bones could be seen lying on the cold ground, before turning to dust one second later!

Sweat slid down his face as Kenta slowly got to his feet and looked up at the sky that was slowly becoming tinged with an orange glow. He then looked at his sword with a confused look before muttering something to himself and shaking his head.

"... I think I had enough training for one day." He said as he sighed.
