Chapter 5 - Dragon Tamer 2

After going through Amalie's information she then went through the soul fragment's information. His name is Silas Broike. He was born with unmatched talent and should have had an amazing life. Unfortunately, that isn't what happened. Silas is an illegitimate child of a very rich and powerful family. His mother had aspirations of money and didn't hide his existence from the Broike family. This resulted in massive scorn received on Silas's end.

He spends his childhood lonely. His mother was unsuccessful in getting money from the Broike family and didn't care for her child much. She spent her days working and he had to earn money as well. While dealing with the disdain from his father's side of the family and the apathy from his mother, he grew up wishing for success and riches, he had a similar dream to Amalie's-to be a beast tamer- but had no resources to support him.

This produced a distrustful and bitter young man.

As Jade digested the new information and her task, Amalie's mother; Diane called for her.

"Amalie! It's time for dinner!"

The voice got closer as Diane approached.

"Are you still reading? You can't do that all day, you have to move a bit."

Diane was a perfect example of a loving mother. Amalie truly didn't understand the preciousness of what she had.

That didn't matter to Jade though. All she had to concern herself with was completing Amalie's wish, saving the soul fragment, and staying in character.

"I know, I know." Jade began with a smooth replication of Amalie.

"I'll move tomorrow. In the meantime, have you gotten my acceptance letter?"

Diane's doting demeanor faltered for a moment. Amalie's talent wasn't enough to be accepted into the academy, and while they had donated a sizable chunk, there wasn't a guarantee she would get in. Diane knew her daughter's stubbornness with this matter and was a bit hesitant to breach the conversation.

"We should be getting the notice any day now. But don't worry about it. Regardless of whether or not you get in, we'll be here to support you.

Jade looked at the ground and grumbled.

"I'm gonna get in."

They reached the dining room and the conversation ended there.

At the table sat Amalie's father, Louis, and Kilah. The mother and daughter pair sat down and began eating the decadent dinner that had been prepared.

Kilah looked at her beloved sister worriedly.

"Amalie don't study too much, okay? Your health should be your first priority. You can always enroll again next year."

Jade put down her fork and gave herself a minute to contemplate how Amalie would react to this. Amalie truly disliked Kilah despite Kilah's sincerity. However, she desperately tried to hide just how envious and bitter she felt.

"I know. But I have to work hard otherwise I won't ever get in."
