Chapter 29 - Calvin Pearce

SCOTT POV

What am I doing… I found myself going round in circles at the hospital vicinity where Diana works. It's not like I wanted to see her, she won't be here anyway. As I drive around, my heart leaped when I caught a whiff of her scent. I sighed deeply as my heart start to drum like it found its missing piece. When I made a turn, I saw her… in her medical clothes looking like she's here for work rather than a check up for her injuries. What the hell, Diana.

Seeing her in such attire was like a slap across my face. I stopped the car, and stared at her paleness. She still have the bandage on her forehead, but it's smaller compared yesterday. The bruise on her lip is still noticeable. From the car, I can see how she shivered as she walk out. Must be the cold. Why didn't you wear more thicker clothes, Diana? And why the hell are you here after what happened in the island?

She waved at me for letting her cross the driveway first, as she head on to the parking lot. I'm sure that she couldn't see me, for this car's heavily tinted. I stalked her to the parking lot like an idiot. Fine, I already saw Diana.

I should go.

That's how I convinced myself over and over. But still, the joke was on me. Here I am, magnetized by my Luna. Watching her every move.

Why did she parked her car so far? It's way too dark in here. I shifted my head lights to high bright for her to see where she's walking. Her legs are so thin. I'm relieved that they aren't broken after being assaulted by those blonde fucks.

Diana rid her black car and drove away. She seemed alright. Being back from a bad experience then going to work is a sign that she's fine, right? I continued to follow her out of the hospital vicinity, then went on our separate directions. My heart ached the farther I go. But, the next second… I saw myself steering the wheel, going back to her direction, and following the black car again.

Just one more look.

I spotted Diana parking near the pavement of a small café. Parking near the restaurant's window, I waited in my car until she's settled in. She sat at a spot where I can perfectly see her. For a while, I stayed in my car like watching the television, with a view of my Luna reading the menu, ordering with the waitress, and waiting for her meal.

Earlier today, I had my dinner with my family as we laugh out loud until our faces and stomachs hurt. It was a heart warming night that goes straight to my core memory. With thoughts of Diana in every bite, I was hoping that she'd be at home spending time with her family too. Sharing a wonderful dinner, hearing each other's boisterous laughs, or simply, being at arms for comfort after experiencing a terrifying nightmare in the island..

I was wrong.

Here she is, spending a day at work. Then, having dinner alone on her first night back in the city. After her assault last night, it is rightful for her to find sanctuary with her loved ones. What kind of family did you grow up from for you to get the courage to eat alone? Maybe she's really stronger than I thought for choosing to go through her reality, than taking time to heal herself for a while.

I continued to watch Diana who's staring blankly on the table. She sat frozen in her seat without blinking. And then, my heart pumped faster when her eyes started to swell. Does her food look that bad to make her cry? I was at the edge of my seat when I saw her trembling so hard. She started making fanning gestures, holding back her tears. After a while, she completely broke down.

I never felt so awful in my life. Stunned in my car, my nails buried on the steering as I fix my gaze on my weeping Luna. Unable to bear it all, I went out of my car and decided to go inside the restaurant. She's crying uncontrollably, as if she's letting it all out. There were not much people inside the café, but the few who were dining in there started to stare and clamour about the girl weeping by the window. I told the staff to keep it under control, and let the people mind their own businesses.

Sitting at the corner of the restaurant, I kept my eyes on my Luna. Forlorn of her burdens. Crying her heart out. I wanted to approach her and press her close to my chest, but I was too scared that she'll push me away. And so, I asked the waitress to give her some napkins instead while I stay close by. Seeing my Luna devastated this way, broke me into a milion pieces. She just had a life threatening occurence, who wouldn't be this tormented? I could only blame myself. Damn you, Scott.

Diana didn't eat. She just paid the bill and left. Then, she walked past me, not noticing my face as she wipe her teary eyes. She was so close, yet so far. And still, I didn't made a move towards her. I followed Diana to the car. Got in my own, and tailed her vehicle.

Villa Estates

I I read the name of the village where she lives in. It's not too far from where I reside. On the road, I choked at how shep might've noticed me as she have changed lanes. To avoid suspicions, I kept my pace. When she entered a certain driveway of a large home, I just drove simply drove ahead glancing at my rear view mirror. I'm sorry, my Luna. You don't deserve all these.

DIANA'S POV, THE NEXT DAY

"Lunch?", Kate knocked on the door of my office as she ask me to go out for lunch. Without looking at her, I kept on writing about the intern recommendations for this year's batch.

"Go ahead Kate", I continued minding my own work. I skipped breakfast today because my mother went out of town on a business trip for two days. I needn't want to eat alone so I went to the hospital as soon as I woke up.

"Are you going to skip your meal again?!" Kate asked as she frown at me.

"I'll go as soon as I'm done. You go ahead", I replied as I make a quick glance at her. A moment later, she stopped arguing and went out, leaving my door open.

"Kate, the door, please", I called.

I went on with the files I'm working with when I felt someone come in. "Did you forget something?", thinking it was Kate, I asked. I heard no reply. "Please don't forget to close the door behind you", keeping my eyes focused on my paperworks.

"Kate told me to ask you out for lunch. For sure, you're not having any.", a man with a familiar voice suddenly spoke.

I looked up and smiled. "Dr. Calvin Pearce ", Calvin is a friend from medical school. We studied together and ended up working together too. He focused on pathology, while I led my career to surgery. He has a very warm smile with prominent dimples that can lighten up a room. With a towering height, very white skin, and spellbinding hazel eyes, he catches the attention of all the residents, interns and even patients. He has this brown rugged shoulder length hair that gives a head-turning vibe to the ladies.

Being friends with Calvin for a long time, he neither showed interest nor attraction towards me at all. Our friendship is plainly professional and companionable. Most importantly, my mother approves of him. One good thing about Cal, we almost share similar personalities. We don't like too many people, and we hate dramas.

"Looks like it was a good fight", Calvin lifted his brows referring to my wounds and bruises, as he lean by the door.

"Did mother called you?", Calvin is one of the rare men my mother liked to come close to me. She instantly liked him from the moment she saw him. She even onced called him a son whom she never had.

"She did", he smiled as he come near me and closed the file I was working on. "Lunch", he said as he emphasize the word like a command. He's always been a man of a few words. Very few, but quite domineering. Without even saying yes, he already pulled me out of my work and took me to lunch.

Calvin and I went to a restaurant a couple of streets from the hospital. I ordered a salad, salmon and an orange juice. He's on a special diet as usual, so he's just having coffee. "Is it time already, Calvin?", I asked as I stare on the veins at the back of my hand.
