Chapter 33 - Smart, and Ambitious

AUTHOR'S POV

"I told Calvin so many times but he didn't believed me..", Diana explained to Kate the horrors that she went through last night in the back side parking lot of the hospital building, and how Calvin just laughed it off when she told exactly what happened that night. The two huddled in a quiet corner of a diner near the hospital, as Diana recount every single detail of her encounter with a vampire and a wolf. They already spoke about it on the phone last night. However, Diana's story was beyond belief that Kate had to hear it again personally at next day for lunch. Away from the hospital as much as possible.

Kate tried to keep up with all of Diana's enigmatic scenarios that were too difficult to comprehend. "So, you're telling me that you were attacked by a vampire and then you were saved by a wolf? And you're wondering why Calvin didn't believed you? ".

"I know it's totally unbelievable but I know what I saw Kate", Diana looked down and started to fidget with the fork and the pea on her plate.

Ever since they were young, Diana have never lied about anything. Somewhere between the facets of their friendship, there's a certain trust in every turn of phrase no matter how ridiculous they might be. "D, I believe you okay? What I'm saying is, it's hard to make others believe those kinds of things. It's just too far-fetched to reality.. But you know, anything is possible in time and age", Kate held Diana's hand resting on the table and smiled a little. "Vampires... it's like you're that girl from a book coming straight out of a novel!".

Hearing every word that she said about last night, Diana knew how ridiculous she sounds. Nevertheless, it did happened. Whether Kate believes her or not, what she cares more about is the possibility that she might come across those vampires and wolves again in the future. "I just don't understand why me. Why is this happening to me?", Diana placed her other hand over Kate's, as she furrow her brows in confusion. "I just... don't want to have the same encounter again".

Kate could only feel bad for her friend. There's so many things that are happening lately, as if Diana is being chased by a bad omen. "I know you've been going through a lot of things lately... You almost died every time. But you know what, I'm just glad you're safe, and you weren't harmed. For now, Let's just stay away from dark places and never be alone.", Kate squeezed Diana's hand as she try to calm and comfort her.

"By the way it looked, it seemed like the vampire was waiting for Calvin on his car", Diana said as she whispered lowly.

"So you think, he would've attacked Calvin but instead, you came at the wrong place at the wrong time?", Kate wondered as she munch on her fries.

"That's what I've been telling him. He just laughed about it and thought that I'm just seeing things", Diana sighed and wet her lips.

"Scary..", Kaye shook her head and deeply sighed from the fear of seeing images of deadly vampires in her mind. "But, why Calvin? He's just some boring lab doctor", she asked as she squinted her eyes thinking deeply.

"Well, he's not that boring. But, whatever it is, I don't intend to find out.", Diana rubbed her shoulders, giving out a sharp exhale.

"Hey… it's my birthday. I know it's a bit too much at the moment but can we forget all of that for a while and maybe we could at least enjoy one day?", Kate pleaded with her puppy eyes. "I really want you to be at my party tonight. But if you're not feeling it, I'd totally understand".

"Well, I won't miss it for the world, Kate. I'm sorry if I have to drag you down with my stresses. You deserve to be happy today. I don't want to be unfair to you", Diana didn't really want to go out. But at some point, she might need a diversion of attention and be surrounded by more people to escape the inexplicable and fearsome incidents happening lately.

"Thanks D.. You can drag me anywhere, and anytime. I'll always be with you no matter what.", Kate smiled sweetly at her best friend. "I'll pick you up at 9pm then", making sure Diana would surely come.

"Always, Kate. 9pm it is", Diana said as she forced a smile.

MEANWHILE

Scott spent his weekend at work with tons of paperworks for him to sign, and attended meeting after meeting. It's Diana's off at work so he can just stay at work as late as he can, he thought. "She probably just stayed home", he signed one more paper for approval, and rejected another. When he was about to stop checking the documents, the next letter of request caught his attention. "AW Laboratories Corp, requested by Alva Woodsworth", he read as he pick up the letter. It seemed Alva is requesting for five medical-grade prototypes for a mass drug production."Smart, and ambitious", folding the paper as he put it in his drawer. He closed his eyes tightly and cracked his neck, stretching his head. He loosened his tie, and opened a few buttons. Then, a soft was heard on the door.

"Boss? You got a phone call from Sir Lucas. He said he's calling you on your phone but you're not answering. He said it's urgent", Jim, Scott's assistant, opened the door a little as he peek in.

"I got it", Scott groaned for he have ignored Lucas' calls all day. His best friend has been inviting him to drink at his newly opened night club in the heart of the city. Scott isn't in the mood to party. He's more interested in seeing Diana more. "I'm busy", he said straightforwardly said as soon as he answered the call.

"Come on Scott!! It's almost 8pm!! The pack's busy and I have no one to open the club with. Don't abandon meeee", Lucas loudly pleaded, as the music in the background pumps a loud beat.

"You don't need me! I'm sure you'll have some women to spend time with you. Besides, I'm tired!", Scott shouted, as he stood up and stretch his legs.

"How could you do this to me? After all these years, I've been a good friend and brother to you!!", Lucas continued to beg for Scott's attention. "If you're not coming, I'm going to tell Diana that you've been stalking her!!", he threatened Scott as his last resort.

"What the.. You just try Lucas! FINE! I'll be there.", Scott hissed as he put down the phone. He took his lighter from the table and headed to the elevator going down the basement. Finding his car, Scott got in the driver's seat, started the ignition, and drove all the way to Lucas' new bar in much displeasure. "I'm gonna kill him", he said as he speed up driving.

Scott arrived at the night club only to see several guests waiting in a long line to come in. He was immediately recognized by the security, that they opened the car door as soon as he stopped the car by the entrance. Scott tossed the keys to the valet service and he was led straight to the VIP lounge on the second floor.

The Trevors has been engaged in several night clubs, bars, hotels and restaurants. As for Lucas, he is in charge of handling the bars and night clubs that the family owns. For that matter, he is expected of being sociable and has maintained many connections to boost the popularity of the business. The newest night club that Lucas opened is a classic styled night club accented with a curved stairs, purple velvet walls, starry lights on the ceiling, black marbly floors, and black with gold leather seats. There are three VIP rooms on the second floor that's divided by wall cladded room divisions. Tonight is special having it known the night club just opened.

"Welcome brother! I'm glad you made it! I knew you'd never say no to me", Lucas greeted with two ladies in his arms winking at Scott. With his arms wide open for his friend supporting his newly open business.

"Fuck off. I need a drink", Scott walk past Lucas, sat on the leather couch on the first VIP lounge, and ordered a glass of whiskey.

"Sorry Alpha. But this lounge is reserved for Ms. Kate Collins. You will occupy the other VIP lounge with Boss Lucas", the waiter said.

Scott didn't replied and just transferred to the other side. Before he could get into the lounge, Lucas already placed his arm on Scott's shoulder. "Come here check out the interiors. What do you think?", Lucas led Scott by the glass balustrade with purple neon lights seeing the entirety of the bar's interior.

Scott squinted with so much lack of interest. As he look over, the club has started to get more crowded. The loud hyperpaced music thunders inside, booming the systems and boosting the vibe. Ladies in frock and men in sophisticated edge swarm the smoky dance floor partying the night away. Strobe and laser lights beams every now and then. Drinks were served constantly, and appetizers kept going out of the kitchen. His eyes combed every detail to give Lucas an honest critique. But when he looked down at the entrance door, his mood suddenly changed seeing the woman in red.
