Chapter 9 - Butterflies in my Stomach

SCOTT'S POV

Her eyes were like staring at my soul as she stand her ground with conviction. She's firm, without an ounce of fright or anxiety in her gentle face. Why would she cover for those little brats whom she know a little? I stepped closer and grinned at her. "Okay", I said with a slight nod.

"Okay…? That's it?", she looked shocked raising her brows, as if unsure of what she heard. "A..Alright, Thank you! For a moment, I got worried there", she laughed a little before turning her back on me. She looked as if, a certain relief coursed through her now trembling drenched body.

I held her slender arm before she could walk out on me. Of course, it wouldn't be that easy. "But…. you still owe me don't you think? Riding my horse without permission.. sparing the brats", I said as I try to blackmail her and get her attention. I'm not simply letting her get away from me, no matter what it takes.

"Now we're talking", she said as she face me with a smirk, like she was expecting me to say it after all.

"I'm a businessman, Diana. I don't do things for free. And my back still kinda hurt from the fall a while ago", touching my hip as I wince to make my little white lie more believable. Please take the bait.

She took a deep breath before she replied, "I've realized my mistake, so I'll do anything you want or pay how much it is you require. As long as it's decent and doesn't involve the children, Scott". She emphasized my name gritting her teeth, how adorable.

So this frail woman is strong in personality, and quite bold too, interesting as I thought. My Luna is so perfect, I'm starting to like her even more. "I'll think of something then", I said as we head on to the stable.

The children were already waiting upfront when they stood up and greeted Diana with a hug. I can't believe that they are this close already. It finally made sense why Diana covers for the twins. I saw a different side of her this time. She's gentle, and smiling a lot. Her eyes were brimming in joy. I glared at the children as they exchange sweet messages. And there I was, standing there like a wolf threatening the pigs. I placed Apollo back in the stable, removed his saddle and gave him some water. When I went out, they were all sitting on a crate box giggling and still hugging. She'd be a great mother of my puppies, I thought.

"Thank you, Scott. I better get going.", she said. She faced the children telling, "Don't worry, he promised he won't scold you, okay? I'll see you both again soon". It was loud enough for me to hear. She nodded at me and left without sparing a single glance.

Isaac and Isavelle slowly went up to me with lowered chin and serious faces. After a few seconds, we all bursted in laughter! I hugged the two and carried them up as I swing them around. I couldn't contain my happiness, as if it's about to explode like fireworks in the sky. "Good job brats! For once, you did something good for your Alpha. Now, get out, I need to catch her", I said as I put them down giggling and scurried to their cabin nearby. If not for them, I would still be groveling dirt to find my Luna.

I hastened to the direction where Diana went. Every step made me feel more uneasy to death. When I caught a glimpse of her at a certain distance, I slowed down and gazed fixedly on my Luna. She was crouching on the ground, sniffing on the wild red roses with her eyes closed. The picturesque view of her is so calm giving me butterflies in my stomach as her beauty stand out in the flowerbed of perennials and shrubs. I was stunned at the soft smile that curved her lips up. I wonder how would it be like if those smiles are for me? I squinted as the ray of the sun gleamed on my face. The morning sun was not burning, but I could feel the heat coursing through my body. Driving my legs to go forth. Compelling my hands to covet what's mine. I'm going crazy, I thought.

DIANA POV

I wasn't expecting Scott to be fond of the children. To see him hugging and swaying the kids in the air was something I didn't expect from a person who looks very domineering and very icy, indeed. I wonder how Isavelle could have said that Apollo's owner is as mean as him. He's glowing and more handsome when he smiles, he should smile often. Leaving them quietly, I walked through the trails in the short but thick bushes. I couldn't remember if this is the right way to my bungalow, but as far as I could remember, it's definitely somewhere here. I made a few turns, and slides down, yet, I think I'm not anywhere near my bungalow.

I admit, I'm lost.

As I head on, I caught a trace of flowers in the air. Shortly after, I found myself in the middle of flowerbeds of wild roses springing up under the brilliance of the radiant sunshine. I crouched down and smiled at the scent of the flowers. Reminiscing a tearful memory from my past, I recalled the red roses that my father often give my mother on the rarest occasions. Through such simple act of affection, he did quite showed his love for her. Suddenly, I heard rustling of the bushes as if someone is approaching towards me. As I glanced to the side, I was surprised to see Scott. Startled, I'm not sure if I gave him a welcoming smile.

"From sneaking horses, and now picking flowers?", he teased as he grinned at me with his hand in his pocket and other hand covering his face from the ray of the sun.

"I'm just admiring them," I stood up and gave him a side eye. A while ago, I find him handsome, but now, my impression of him as an evil spawn came back. I turned around and walked on. I looked behind and he is still following me. I kept walking, hoping I would get to the beach soon. I was so focused on the foot path in the hope that I'd finally get out of Scott's annoying air. Thus, the sound of the waves are getting more distant as I walk further. "Why do I feel like I'm going the wrong way?", I mumbled, resting my arms across my chest, as I shudder from my drenched clothes.

"Are you lost?", he whispered to my ear. He was so close that my lips brushed his cheek when I turned around. 'When did he come up close?', I thought. I was startled and lost my footing. He effortlessly held me with his arm around my waist to keep me from falling. I felt the warmth of his palms, and yet I didn't sense any form of perversion when he is up close holding me. Actually, his entire vibe doesn't make me feel uncomfortable. However, I still don't like the idea of him getting physically close, and become touchy with other people. Immediately, like a cat on her paws, I jumped out from his clutches.

"Thanks! Yes, I'm lost. Would you be kind to lead me out?", I politely asked, rubbing my nape as I feel my skin blush.

"Maybe, where do you stay?", he asked casually. I almost kissed him on his cheek and for him, it seemed like a normal gesture he gets from girls.

"In Bungalow 1. I would surely appreciate your kindness", I said, trying to calm myself. Without any word, Scott led the way on a different direction. I followed shortly, and stayed right behind him as he walk ahead. At that, I ended up staring at Scott. A man with irresistible charm, statuesque height, and surprisingly, with clear skin. I bet there were too many ladies running after him, begging on their knees for his attention.

Scott placed his hands at the back of his head and whistled a tune. It was slow, and easy to catch on. The melody is almost familiar, like I've heard it before. The songs that I know are not that many, so most likely, I do know it. Not too long, I could already hear the waves. I walked past him with excitement, and right beyond the thick trees, we finally reached the beach. When I turned my head to the side, I spotted my bungalow right by the shore. My heart could leap out of joy.

Scott caught up to me and stood right on my way. He had this very stony face, looking straight back at me. I refused to lower my gaze, as I meet his eyes. "How about having lunch with me?", he said softly, with his ears turning red.
