Turning his full attention to Rena Riley's mother, Roxy, Zeph sucked in a cool breath knowing that he should have anticipated such a question, considering where the conversation was going and who it was with.
She hid it well, but underneath the layers of corporate aggressiveness that even spilled over into her private life, a little soft spot made of a mother's love for her daughter could be found. Zeph was starting to see it peaking out as they spoke. The question didn't surprise him as much as the way she said it.
There was so much concern in that simple but heavy question that any disillusionment he held that made him and most others believe that Roxy cared more about the achievements and image of her daughter than she did her well-being and happiness vanish before his eyes.
