With the best of intentions, Victor Morgan wanted to tell Chloe Warner a story to coax her to sleep, so he racked his brain for tales that little girls enjoy.
But as it turned out, the girl wanted to hear horror stories. The problem was, Victor Morgan actually told her some, but the more Chloe Warner listened, the more excited she became, until she completely lost any desire to sleep.
Victor Morgan suddenly recalled what Vera Warner had told him as he was leaving the hospital.
Vera Warner had said, "Don't spoil her too much!"
Now, Victor Morgan seemed to finally understand the true meaning of those words. He felt as if he had been completely ensnared by this little demoness.
Seeing it was already almost ten o'clock, Victor Morgan suddenly grew stern. "You've been listening for an hour. Go to sleep right now."
Chloe Warner clutched the blanket pitifully, her voice full of grievance. "But I miss Mommy. I can't sleep without her here."
