Chapter 4 - The Unknown Heiress

Assistant Milo Gavin sat next to the chauffeur who had accompanied him to pick up the Miss of the family they served.

He was the one who was always next to the head of the Valken family business but ever since the Boss's disappearance, he felt that he had no idea of how to continue.

All he had been doing these past few days was circling the office and the police headquarters in an attempt to find out more information about his missing Boss.

However, this morning, the Chairman, Boss's father, had asked him to run an errand for him.

Milo had been wondering what the scary old man would ask him to do but never in his wildest dreams would he have imagined being assigned this task.

Instead of completing the remaining piled-up work in their office, he was playing the role of guide to the young miss of the Valken family today.

He had started working as the Boss's assistant for a little less than five years so he never knew who the Boss's sister was.

He had only ever heard about her from his Boss who always had words of praise for his younger sister but that wasn't his sole source of information about the unknown heiress of the Valken family.

After all, a big family like the Valkens would always have rumors flying around about them.

From such rumors, he had heard that she was a delicate and soft-spoken, demure young lady who had chosen to step out of her family's protection and learn to face the storms of life on her own as soon as she had turned eighteen.

Therefore, any information he had about her was from before she was a legal adult.

Once she turned eighteen, she packed her bags and disappeared from the sight of the public altogether.

However, the Valken family did not appear to be too bothered which made the public assume that they were alright with her disappearance.

Hence when Milo heard the Chairman's command of picking the young miss from the airport, he was curious to see what kind of a person she was and also how her relationship with her family would be.

'She was away for so many years but the family never made any statement or even tried to bring her back.' He recalled what he knew regarding the family he worked for.

Yet the moment the Boss went missing, they summoned her home which was another mystery for him.

Milo thus glanced at the woman seated behind him through the rearview mirror, trying to decipher what this was all about.

Nita turned her head away from the window and made direct eye contact with the man who had been sneaking peeks at her throughout their drive.

"Got something to say?" She interrogated straightaway, causing the assistant to burn in embarrassment for being caught red-handed.

The chauffeur did not even try to glance at them as he focused on the road ahead of them.

He had been with the Valken family longer than Milo and knew that interfering where he wasn't supposed to would not end well for him.

Thus he did not let his eyes stray like the assistant's had and paid attention to his job.

Nita had been gazing out of the window while recalling some memories she had made in this city when she sensed a curious gaze on her.

Thus she had only turned around to address it but looking at the panicking face of the assistant, she did not know how to move forward.

'Forget about it.' She let him off the hook and averted her eyes, fixing them back on the scenery outside the window.

Though many things had changed in the last nine years that she had been away, she could still find a few familiar places along the way.

Based on her memories, she was sure that they were close to the Valken Manor so she decided to collect her thoughts before she could return to the place she called home in the past.

Milo heaved a sigh of relief when the young lady of the Valken family moved her eyes away from him.

However, in the next second, he was flustered thinking of how he had just made a fool of himself before someone younger than him.

While he was beating himself up about how poorly he had reacted just now, the car began to slow down.

Looking right ahead, they found the large gates which would mark the entrance of the Valken estate.

Valkens were one of the most influential business families in Metro K and their prominence could also be discernible just by looking at the place they called home.

Owning one of the largest residential areas among those belonging to the upper echelon of the society, Valkens had already proved their dominance over the rest.

Nita's lips curved into a subconscious smile when those enormous gates opened up to give them a view of what lay beyond it.

Milo's green irises had caught sight of this subtle smile but it faded before he could appreciate it enough.

He had heard a lot about this Miss Valken but it appeared that this information was not up to date since it was from over nine years ago.

The young lady he had met today was nowhere soft-spoken or demure, instead, she was cold and hard to converse with.

Not to mention that she was not watchful of what she did and said.

After all, she had not hesitated before being disrespectful to another bigwig of this city and even dared to walk away from him.

While Milo had met the head of the Grimsa family during business events when he accompanied his Boss, never had he seen anyone speaking to that man in such a rude tone.

Known for his ruthless ways and his frightening demeanor, Milo had half-expected to see Miss Valken being tossed out of the airport by the security guards.

However, that man had accepted and later retorted to the snarky remarks made by the Miss which was not within his expectations.

His impression of Hugh Grimsa being a cold and unfeeling man did not correlate to the attitude he had seen directed towards the Miss today.

If this had been someone else, then the head of the Grimsa family would have made life a living hell for those who dared to go against him in any way possible.

Yet Miss Valken had walked away unscathed from the unpleasant encounter with that man.

'And she was the one who provoked him first!' He recalled how their interaction had begun.

Thinking of this, Milo's admiration for the fearless young miss was also laced with worry for what might happen in the future.

'Boss, come back to me!' He lamented with his head now lowered as the car finally came to a halt before its destination.
