I am branching out!
Hi everyone, Muffin here. I don't post much on the Devil side of the forums, but I happened to be watching the Rating Game and decided, why not? Got to it before anyone else did, so here we are.
So, new Rating Game dropped. I'm not a Devil, so I admit the hype and excitement over it is a bit lost on me. I guess it's basically like a sporting event to them? But they seem to take it really seriously.
And if someone wants to correct me, this was apparently an 'unofficial' Rating Game? Meaning that it didn't count towards overall statistics or rankings.
Now, with that being said, let's get to the meat of it.
Rias Gremory, we all know her (Or not). Daughter of the Gremory Pillar family, set to inherit the Big Chair once she's older. Aunt to our favorite Lucifer Jr.
And on the other end, we have Riser Phenex. Something something, like the third son of the Phenex Pillar family? I looked up his statistics, apparently he's won most of his Rating Games in the past and has some fame in the arena.
Well, the juicy details are that Rias and Riser were set to be married. Something involving a Marriage contract? Well, Rias challenged Riser to a rating game to get out of it.
Honestly, I don't understand it. Why would he even agree? He only sets to lose? Unless I'm unaware of him gaining anything by him winning, other than….you know, fulfilling the already set conditions that weren't reliant on said rating game in the first place?
But I digress.
The two Devils and their peerages went at it and the results, well…..I'm sure most of you have heard the controversy by this point.

Though, ironically, I sorta agree? I mean, her win was cheap. I'll give credit where it was due, did you see her arms at the end? They were burned to a crisp, and it looked like it a hurt a lot. But uh….the spirit of the rules were definitely broken.

Everyone keeps arguing about "honor" from what I've heard about.
I'm more interested in why nobody is talking about the actual strategy.
Riser spent half the match trying to flex. Rias spent the entire match setting up one win condition. If this was a chess match, everyone would be praising her tactical planning.
Instead people are mad because she didn't charge into a fistfight.

And I'm not speaking about the young lady who won through questionable means. I am a Knight, I do not engage in subterfuge, or trickery. But I do not hold everyone else to that same standard.
You do not tell an Assassin not to play to their strengths because it's 'dishonorable'. You do not tell a Magician to stop casting spells and stand still so you can hit them.
Honor is personal. It carries weight and importance because it is the burden and conviction we carry in our every day lives. Saying her actions lacked 'honor' and continue to berate and condemn her is foolish and disgusting.
I have no love for Devils, I only watched because it was between training days and our exalted leader stated that she was going to watch the match.
I applauded her for clutching victory from the jaws of defeat. If this were purely a match based on competition in a fair and just environment without any stakes, I may have had a different opinion.
However, she was fighting for her freedom, and as such, I give her my full applause and tell her she did a good job.

This was a fight for her future. In a war, you don't stop and berate another because they threw dirt into your eyes, or they utilized any advantage they could to achieve victory.

There's a lot more than what was just shown. I was in the war, and there was a whole catalogue of potions we could pick up or choose from if we needed.
From the top of my head, I remember;
Healing Potion, Stamina Potion, Mana Potion, Regeneration Potion, Fire Resist Potion, Ice Resist Potion, Lighting Resist potion…..well, most elements had a potion like that. Then there was water breathing potion – I actually have one of these still that I never used. Cure Potion, Invisibility Potion, Strength Potion, Agility Potion.
There were more, but I can't really remember the rest.

Seriously!? Where did they get all these from? There's no way they just created all these by themselves. I mean, I can place like half of those – their origins – from other parts of the world. I've seen similar things all around, but they're usually rare and expensive.
Since when do the Youkai mass produce these kinds of things? The gardens and fields needed to grow the ingredients for these kinds of things would be ridiculous!

Because I understand bringing weapons and equipment assigned to individual pieces, but she had enough bottles stored away to supply a small army. I was looking over the rules again, and there's only really mentions of Phoenix Tears.

Yes.
A participant may enter with equipment prepared before the match unless specific restrictions are agreed upon beforehand.
This includes enchanted clothing, weapons, talismans, medicine and magical consumables.
The only limitations are Holy Weapons or Items – which are explicitly forbidden. And of course, there is the rule that you can only consume one of a healing type of item. Healing Spells or something like Sacred Gears aren't included here.
The rules never took into account that someone would have so many different types of….consumables, that give them an advantage.

Man, people saying some stuff about how she didn't earn the win, but if you actually watched the match you would see how much effort her team put in.
She was getting burned badly at the end there. Her peerage members were blowing themselves up, or electrocuting themselves to pull off victories.
They earned their win in my book!

The winner is the one standing at the end. Throw dirt in their eyes, bite their throat, kick them in the balls, do what you need to do to win. A fight is bloody, it's dirty, and there isn't room for thinking about anything else but winning.
Props to the kid for her quick thinking.
The little brats there showed potential. The 'Queen' of hers was willing to take her own attack to remove a bunch of the opposing members. Those two kids willingly threw themselves at a bomb in order to take out their opponents.
She didn't win because she cheated, she won because her team was willing to do what was necessary to win.
If more of those stupid Rating Games were like this, I would watch them more.

He could have won at plenty of points, but he instead just stood there and acted like a moron. Even if Rias cheated – which is debatable – Riser wouldn't have earned any kind of victory.

Everyone's talking about the potions, or the gun or the 'cheating'. But honestly, most of me and my friends were more awed by Rias's peerage.
We don't really have big dreams, getting to High-Class would be a lifelong commitment for us. But a lot of us want to get into a good peerage anyways and give it a shot. And seeing what some of her peerage was wiling to do to win….I think we were underestimating the roles.
I looked up their names, Issei and Kiba? Issei there was registered as a Reincarnated Devil only earlier this year. Kiba was older and had more experience, and that showed. But he did a thing with his Sacred Gear, making an exploding sword?
And he dropped it right between himself and Issei without a second thought. Yeah, they jumped out of the way in time, but if they were even half a second slower, they may have gotte hit by it too.
They were willing to do that to win for their King.
And then there was Akeno – the Queen. She's a bit more famous having her own title and everything. And she filled a building with water, then cast some impressive lightning spells to hit everyone inside, including herself.
Did you see how badly she hurt herself at the end? I mean, people dismiss it because she took a potion right after, but pain like that just doesn't disappear or make it easier ot manage because you get healing right away.
And right after all of that, her peerage went back into fighting at the end to give their King the opening she needed to win.
It really puts into perspective what the highest level of Peerages operate at. I don't care about the 'cheating' or whatever anyone's calling it, I think Rias and her peerage earned their win. And I'm going to try even harder now to reach that same level of dedication.

Hey everyone, Muffin here! And I got the scoop.
So, we all know that the Youkai went to war with the Faeries recently, it's been some hot gossip. Well, this is a bit of an update after the fact. For those who don't know, there was apparently a large community of humans living in the Fae Realm. People who got lost, kidnapped, or just accidently made their way there over the years.
And I'm not talking about the occasional lost traveler here.

Here are some pictures, and those aren't movie props or good costumes! We're talking Greeks straight from the BC era. Samurai from feudal Japan. Vikings from before the United States was discovered.
The list goes on, and as you can see, there's a large variety shown.
And here's the kicker, these aren't their descendants. While they do have descendants – probably. These are the original folk, they've somehow been surviving there for centuries.
And the biggest point is that they're strong.
Strong enough that every faction that could make a claim came rolling into Japan to get a piece of the pie.
Thoughts? Concerns? This one has my scratching my head because it's not something I'd ever heard of before.

I got some close up pictures of their weapons, and I can verify that they look legit? At least, their overall design. Obviously they aren't going to be using the same weapons after centuries, they're mundane materials afterall. But even with the 'changes' and whatnot, there's the same overall design and intent in them.

My aunt works in Lady Yasaka's estate, so I know a couple things and they aren't really secrets.
Apparently, a bunch of gods and stuff showed up demanding their 'piece' of the pie. And it was the Young Lord who rejected that outright and put them all in their place. I have no proof, but considering what we know about the Young Lord, I'm willing to believe it.

I heard from the grapevine that there were a few Magicians among their number. Language spells are basic and easily learned, often as apprentices.
However, I too have quite a few questions. I'm curious about the path that their magic took when they were cut off from the majority of discovery and innovation. Did they expand in a different direction? Did they regress? Did they innovate in a completely different way due to their environmental needs?
I may throw my hat in the ring here and see if I can't manage to snag a few promising humans to join up over my way.

I can't imagine walking back into the world after suffering over there for centuries, only to find out that everything you knew and loved was just….gone.
Props to the Youkai for helping them. How many humans are among the Youkai's numbers? Less than a percent maybe? Yet, even during their war with the Faeries, they seemingly were making rescuing this group of a humans a priority.
I've heard a lot of bad shit about Youkai ever since they've been given the spotlight this past year, but everything I see with my own eyes contradicts that.
Shit man, if I ever want to move, I might consider Youkai Kyoto a place to move into.

Well, every pantheon seemed to come over and want to share in the pie, as they said. But from what I heard, it seems the vast majority of them are 'high-class' and some even pushing 'Ultimate-Class'. But those are just rumors I heard, I wasn't directly involved.

We aren't laughing because you said that every faction wanted them. That was obvious, you have a bunch of powerful humans appearing out of nowhere with different connections. Of course they're going to want to claim their believers/worshippers.
We were laughing at you because you said that it was a conspiracy to insert spies into every faction perpetrated by the Youkai and Lucifer Jr himself to take over the world.
The fact of the matter is, there are hundreds of humans who are not 'technically' part of any faction that have now been introduced to the world. And they're almost all High-Class and above.
That isn't something anyone can ignore.

At the risk of being on topic, I think I ran into one of these guys the other day. There was this guy, big buff with an impressive beard and tattoos. Clearly a human too. He was standing inside of a restaurant, staring at the menu like it was trying to convert him to worship the flying spaghetti monster. I felt bad so I asked him if he needed help.
He reminded me of my grandpa who got overwhelmed in public sometimes, so it was easy to sort of slot into that role again.
He was polite, had a thick accent, but accepted it. I thought it was strange at the time that he had no idea what a 'burger and fries' was, so I explained it to him easily. We ate together and he only had great things to say about the food.
Fast food, mind you.
Again, thought it was weird, but there are weird types all around and I try not to judge.
Damn, hindsight is really something.

It could have been anyone he was fighting.
Besides, they've been showing off that new technique of theres, so it could have just been anyone they pissed off for whatever reason.

Apparently they call it the 'Baptism Rite', it's supposed to be some powerful technique against demonic or evil things. No one has heard where it's come from, but it's been getting showed in various places.
I saw an Exorcist hit a Stray Devil with it in a video, and it was not pretty. It sort of like…purifies them or something? It's like an instant kill, and it's gotten them riled up and more excited.
