Today was mom's funeral. I woke up really early Veronica was still asleep i went to my room too take a shower. When i was done with that i took out one of my black dresses and kept it on my bed.
I went to Veronica's room took her to her bathroom to give her a bath she was still asleep but the water will end up waking her up.
"Destiny where are we going today and why didn't mommy come home with us"
as she said that I started crying because i didn't know how to start telling her that our mother wasn't coming back home.
"Why are you crying Destiny"she said
"you see Veronica mommy isn't coming back" I said as my voice continued to crack
"why she was in the hospital with me and both of you said the hospital makes people better then why isn't she here?"
"you see Veronica remember Mrs Robinson who mommy said went to heaven"
"yes"
"mommy went to meet her"
"when is she coming back"
"She isn't, but don't worry she is watching over us"
"so where are we going"
"to see her in flesh one last time"
I took her out to her room and wore her a black dress too.
we went down stairs to see aunt Lizz sitting in the living room already dressed. She lifted her eyes from her phone when she heard us walk in.
"how are you?"
she said looking at both of us.
"we are good" I said giving her a small smile.
we lift the house to the cemetery it was a fifteen minutes drive from the house to the cemetery. By the time we got there, people already occupied almost the the entire seats. I never knew my mom knew alot of people non of the our dads came and I love it that way when we got to our seats, Veronica refused to leave me so i just carried her.
I looked at the people who were in the first role with us. They were in the persons of her boss, her friend from work whose name was Sarah and we liked her, her friends from work. Then on the other seats were family friends, neighbors, my classmates, teachers and the only friend i managed to have Daniel.
After the priest finished speaking i was called to give a speech. I handed Veronica to Aunt Lizz. I stood in on the podium and stared at everyone before i spoke.
"Everybody here knows who my mother was. She was the good employee, a nice neighbor, and a great mother. Everybody knows that both of our fathers left when we needed them the most i mean this is a small town everybody knows everything"
that made everyone laugh
"she was there for us and will never forget her"
Veronica came up to me and I carried her but what I did expect her to was to clean the tears that i didn't realize were falling from my eyes. And then she took the mic from me
"I miss you mommy, don't wowy Destiny pwomised to take care of me and i also pwomise to be a good girl"
she then looked at me and smiled i had no choice but to smile back.
When we went back to our seats, Aunt Lizz went up to make her own speech. And after her other people came.
After she was buried, we went back home. When we got home guest started coming to the house. I took Veronica to her room so she can have a nap, she looked really exhausted.
I went to my room to meet Daniel sitting on my bed. I don't even know how to tell him that i wasn't going to have senior year with him.
people in school said he liked me in a romantic way, i didn't believe at first until i started noticing the way he acted around me and he hasn't said anything to me about it.
"Destiny i know this isn't the right time to say this and i don't want you to feel I'm trying to use your weakest time to my advantage but I like you Destiny in fact I'm in love with you i didn't know how to tell you before but now I feel that i might lose you if don't tell you"
"I can't"
"Why?"
"Because I'm leaving Daniel and i don't feel that way about you" I said to him truthfully
"I figured you didn't feel the same way but what do you mean you are leaving"
"I'm going to live with my grandparents"
"If it is the next town i can still see you"
"you can't because I'm going to London that is were they are"
"London"
"Yes"
"When do you leave"
"tomorrow"
I could see the hurt in his eyes. I know he was hoping i would like him back later.
"Please just let me kiss you let me hold on to that" he begged, and i let him.
few minutes later after we talked he went home telling to call him when I get there. When i came down stairs everybody had gone. Aunt Lizz was with Veronica she was having her dinner.
I walked up to them and gave Veronica a kiss on her forehead. I had to tell her we were leaving.
"Veronica" I said looking at her
"yeah?"
"we are leaving here tomorrow to our grandparents house in London"
"when are we coming back?" she asked finally looking at me
"we are not. You are going to a new school same thing with me"
"Ok i don't have any friends here anyway"she said nonchalantly.
"that was easier than I taught" I said whispering to myself.
I left both of them to go and pack our bags . And that took me four hours straight arranging mine and Veronica's. When i went to Veronica's room herself and Aunt Lizz were asleep on her bed. I just smiled and covered them with her duvet. I went to mom's room and gathered all her stuff i wasn't leaving anything here, I packed allow the pictures in boxes. I took all our bags to the living room before going to bed myself.
