Chapter 35 - | The Legacy and the "Muse" Identity 5

Minty: "In that narration—that very last poem—if you could pick just one line from it to be the final words the audience hears before the screen goes black, what would it be? Is it a line of goodbye to the boy, or is it a line of hello to the woman you were becoming while you were busy writing about him?"

[The studio lights dim even further, leaving just a warm spotlight on Yvonne, as the audience wait for the final line of Yvonne's Director's Cut.]

Yvonne: "Oh, pardon me but let me just recall the last poem that I wrote. [Took the phone out and taps on it] The last line of the poem is this: 'Still, thank you, my muse, but now I already found someone new.' [Sides eye the audiences]As if she did. [Chuckels, then looks back at Minty] I want to change it into this: 'Still, thank you, my muse, but now I already found peace in letting go of your ghost.' [Puts away her phone with a proud smile on the lips]"

[The audience is absolutely stunned into silence for a heartbeat before a wave of "Whoa" and soft snaps rolls through the room. That side-eye at the audience—the 'as if she did'—brought back the wit, but the new line? That new line just gave everyone chills. Minty looks like she's just witnessed a live transformation.]

Minty: [Breathless, her hand over her heart] "Yvonne... 'the ghost.' You just took a pen and rewrote your own history right in front of us. From 'finding someone new'—which, let's be honest, is what we all tell ourselves to feel better—to the raw honesty of 'finding peace in letting go.' That is a graduation."

[Minty leans forward, her eyes soft and full of admiration. She looks at where Yvonne tucked her phone away, as if she just locked a treasure chest.]
