Tessa Caldwell noticed that Mika Keaton seemed ready for a long talk, so she nodded at her mom and Faye, signaling with her phone before heading out.
Winnie Barnett leaned against the headboard, watching Tessa leave.
After she closed the door, she looked at Faye with a meaningful glance and said, "She must be going back to work again."
Faye replied, "I'm not one to impose traditional roles. If she wants to work, she should. I'm busy sometimes too, and if she's home alone every day, she'd be too bored. Working makes her life feel fuller."
His understanding and empathy made Winnie Barnett feel gratified, "You treat her very well."
Then, she continued, "I owe my recovery to you. When you both weren't here, the caregivers and nurses told me that Dr. Simon originally refused the surgery, and it was because of your personal visit that he agreed. They all envy my daughter for finding such a good husband."
