Her instinct told her he didn't die by accident. Perhaps, in the third year, he discovered something about Poppy, like the original test samples were swapped, or maybe something else.
But he must have found something, leading to his silencing in the end.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but feel a deep sadness. If only she had sought further testing back then, perhaps the subsequent tragedies could have been avoided.
