Dragon King's Harem Chapter 366. The Lizard King's Anger III
The soldier quickly scrambled to his feet, his face still pale but his voice steady as he continued his report. "But it's not just a group, Your Majesty," he said, his tone serious and urgent. "It's a whole pack. The entire pack is in the territory."
Viperax's eyes widened, and his anger momentarily gave way to shock and seriousness. "That's impossible…" he muttered, more to himself than to the soldier.
Nightshade Ravagers were known to move in groups, but they never mobilized their entire pack in one territory unless they were provoked or threatened. They were dangerous but not known for their strategic intelligence. They were just monsters, not cunning adversaries.
The soldier pressed on. "We thought it was impossible too, but it's true. There are at least more than two hundred of them. They're hiding in the trees, stalking us. We are surrounded," he reported, his voice filled with urgency.
Viperax's mind raced, processing this alarming information. Two hundred Nightshade Ravagers were a force to be reckoned with, even for his elite soldiers. The idea of facing such a massive, coordinated attack was unnerving.
Viperax, who had been eager to find a way to channel his frustration, began to frown and think deeply. "This is too strange," he muttered, his mind racing. "There must be something that moved them." He glanced sharply at the soldier. "Are there any other strange signs? Like the Dragon King or maybe his subordinates?"
The soldier shook his head, his expression tense. "There are only them. We didn't find anything else," he said, his voice wavering slightly under Viperax's intense scrutiny.
"Fool!" Viperax shouted, his rage flaring anew. "This must be that cursed Dragon King's doing! I'm sure of that!" His voice dripped with annoyance and fury. The thought of Argod orchestrating this attack filled Viperax with a sense of dread and fury. It made sense—the Nightshade Ravagers wouldn't mobilize their entire pack without a significant provocation, and who else but Argod would have the cunning and resources to manipulate them? The Dragon King had already humiliated him once, and now it seemed he was not done.
Viperax swept his gaze around the camp, his eyes narrowing with determination. "Now search for the clue or whatever! There must be something that makes those monsters target us!" he ordered, his voice resonating with authority and anger.
"Sound the alarm!" Viperax bellowed, his voice cutting through the night air like a blade. "Prepare for a full-scale defense! Arm every available soldier and fortify the perimeter!" He added with gritted teeth, his fury barely contained. "I myself will lead and kill them all."
The camp erupted into action. Soldiers sprang to life, their movements quick and precise as they grabbed weapons and armor. The air filled with the sound of clanging metal and hurried footsteps. The alarm echoed through the camp.
Viperax stood tall, his eyes fierce and unyielding. He knew the Nightshade Ravagers in large numbers could wreak havoc on his camp, and he was determined to prevent that. But more than the immediate danger, he was fixated on finding out who was behind this attack. The idea that this could be a random act of the Nightshade Ravagers was inconceivable. The timing, the coordination—it all pointed to something more sinister. He was convinced this was Argod's doing.
His wives, who had been watching him from afar, saw the fury and urgency in his actions and approached him, their faces lined with worry. They had seen him angry before, but this was different—a raw, primal rage that seemed to consume him.
"Your Majesty, what happened?" one of them spoke, her voice trembling slightly.
"Nightshade Ravagers are preparing to attack our camp," Viperax said without looking at them, his focus on the preparations around him. "I have to be ready for battle."
"You need to go to the battle?" another wife asked, her worry deepening. "If it's just monsters, there should be enough soldiers to face them," added another, trying to sound reassuring but failing.
Viperax turned to them, his glare intense and unyielding. "That's not enough. They've mustered all their strength. All the pack in the territory," he said, his voice harsh and impatient.
His words made his wives cringe, their faces reflecting their fear. They understood how bad the situation was now. The Nightshade Ravagers, with their numbers and ferocity, were not to be underestimated. Their presence in such force was a dire threat.
Viperax smirked, seeing the fear in their eyes. "If you don't want to become their food, keep quiet and let your all-mighty husband kill them. Do you understand?" he asked, his tone cold and commanding.
His wives nodded quickly, stepping back and lowering their heads in submission. They knew better than to argue or protest further.
Viperax turned back to the preparations, his mind already running through strategies. The scouts he had sent out were returning, their faces grim as they reported on the positions of the Nightshade Ravagers.
"They're in the trees, Your Majesty," one scout reported. "We saw them moving, but they're keeping to the shadows. It's hard to get a clear count, but there are definitely hundreds of them."
Viperax nodded, his expression serious. "We need to lure them out. Archers, target the trees! Force them to show themselves," he commanded, his voice carrying over the noise of the camp.
The archers moved into position, their bows ready, arrows tipped with poison to counteract the Ravagers' own venom. Viperax watched them, his mind a mix of tactical considerations and burning anger. He needed to keep his head clear, to think strategically, but the thought of Argod manipulating these events kept intruding.
He strode to the edge of the camp, looking out into the darkness where the Nightshade Ravagers lurked. The moonlight cast an eerie glow over the forest, illuminating the shadows where the monsters hid. He could feel their presence, a malevolent force waiting to strike.
"Archers, fire at will!" he ordered.
