Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: I Won't Be a Burden to You

Scarlett Xavier glanced at him, opened the car door, and stepped out.

The shop was bustling, everyone was busy. Seeing her, they said, "Ms. Xavier, you're back! Weren't you sick? You should go home and rest! Sister Vi has already left for the day."

"It's fine, I just came to pick up something. Don't worry about me."

Scarlett entered the shop, pretending to pick up something, and then walked back out.

She originally thought Julian Rhodes would have left by now, which would allow her to find a nearby hotel to stay. But then she noticed his car still parked there, not having left.

She had no choice but to walk over and ask, "Why haven't you left yet?"

Julian glanced at the bag she was carrying and asked, "Where are you going?"

Scarlett said, "I'm planning to go home. My car is over there... I'll drive myself back. You should go."

As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed Julian was looking her up and down, with an odd expression.

Scarlett asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Can you really drive looking like this? Do you want to get in an accident, or do you think you've lived too long?"

Scarlett replied, "I just have a slight cold."

After speaking, she coughed twice.

Julian said, "Get in the car."

"It's really not necessary..."

"Get in the car, I don't want to repeat myself." Although his voice was pleasant, his words were impossible to refuse.

Scarlett looked at him, feeling a bit impatient herself, "Aren't you the one who hates trouble the most? Why are you so keen on meddling?"

He said he hated trouble, but the truth was, she hated trouble even more.

She didn't even want to interact with him much.

Julian looked at her, his gaze pausing for a moment.

Indeed, he was overly concerned about her now!

Seeing her sick, he was genuinely afraid she might have an accident.

If things got to that point... he would once again carry the burden of a life!

Even though his family kept reassuring him it wasn't his fault, how could he remain unaffected when tangled with matters like these?

This was also the reason why he strongly opposed his family helping him find a partner.

Seeing him silent, Scarlett remembered he was also concerned about her, and a sense of guilt welled up within her.

She softened her tone and explained, "Grandpa and my mom want us to live together, I've moved out from the Monroe Family. So, you don't need to take me home. I'm going out for something to eat, then I'll come back to the shop to rest. You should go back."

Perhaps it was because of falling ill, or maybe due to some other reason, saying this brought an overwhelming sense of sadness to Scarlett.

People really are tragic!

Interacting with so many people daily, yet in this world, there won't be anyone who can truly stand in your shoes, perfectly understanding what you're thinking and what you're experiencing.

Julian watched her, and in a short time, her displeasure, her guilt, her endurance were all evident to him.

He said, "What do you want to eat? I haven't eaten either. Let's go together."

After hearing his words, Scarlett glanced at him and didn't refuse his gesture of goodwill.

She cleared her throat, opened the car door, got in, and said, "Anything is fine, whatever's convenient for you."

Julian found a nearby restaurant and took Scarlett there to eat.

Despite being ill, Scarlett had a decent appetite. She enjoyed some seafood porridge and watched Julian, sitting across from her, eating. He ate quietly, not quickly, but still, there was an aesthetically pleasing quality about him.

The warm food had settled her stomach, and Scarlett felt much better. She said to Julian, "I'll make do at the shop for the next couple of days, then I'll find a place and move my stuff there. I'll keep it from Grandpa for you. I know our marriage is a stretch for you, so I won't inconvenience you."
