Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: About the Same Age as Her Dad

Scarlett Xavier sat down on the sofa beside her, "If you want my help, just let me help, don't act like it's for my own good."

Joyce Leighton looked at her and softened her tone, saying, "Fine, you've grown up, and your wings are strong now, we have to beg you to do something! Your Uncle Monroe has already arranged it, you're meeting tomorrow. You don't want to see the Monroe Family go bankrupt, do you? If we go bankrupt, we'll have nothing! When we were with your dad, we already had nothing, and every day he would yell at us, you remember those days weren't easy."

As Joyce Leighton spoke, her eyes became moist.

Despite being in her fifties, she could cry at the drop of a hat, and Scarlett was always speechless at her emotional outbursts.

Scarlett had indeed experienced the hardships of poverty.

Although she's doing well now, there was a time with her father when they couldn't even afford tuition.

Listening to her mother, she also thought of her father.

Joyce Leighton's tearful appearance made her irritated, "Stop crying!"

"I don't care, I don't want to marry. I heard that old man from the Griffin Family is cursed; all his previous fiancées died because of him! Mom, if you want me to marry him, aren't you forcing me to my death?"

In the afternoon, Scarlett stood in the elevator, recalling Yasmine Morgan's words from yesterday. At the time, overwhelmed by Joyce Leighton, she had agreed.

Now, thinking back on Yasmine's words, she suddenly wondered if that Griffin man was truly cursed.

Remembering how Joyce felt sorry for Yasmine but never considered her own daughter, Scarlett couldn't help but feel a bit sad.

Just then, her phone rang; it was Joyce calling. Scarlett glanced at it but didn't answer.

Exiting the elevator, she arrived at the entrance of the coffee shop as planned.

She pushed open the door and walked in.

A middle-aged man sat there.

The man was not young; he looked to be in his late forties. Scarlett was momentarily stunned when she saw him.

Seriously?

Although she knew that people who needed blind dates wouldn't be in perfect conditions, seeing someone almost as old as Uncle Monroe was a bit off-putting for her.

After all, a blind date was for finding a husband, not bringing home a father figure!

"Miss Xavier?" The man spotted her and greeted her politely.

Scarlett replied, "Yes, that's me."

The man looked at Scarlett, smiled, and said, "I've heard before that Miss Xavier resembles Mrs. Monroe. Seeing you today, you do look quite similar, both equally beautiful."

Scarlett was tired of hearing this cliché compliment and knew it was just a formality, so she replied, "Thank you. Mr. Griffin is also very handsome."

Upon hearing this, the man quickly smiled and clarified, "Miss Xavier misunderstood, my last name is Du, I'm the butler for the Griffin Family. You can call me Uncle Du. Mr. Griffin was busy today, so I came in his place."

"I see." Scarlett picked up her cup and took a sip of water, immediately feeling relieved.

Mentioning Mr. Griffin, Uncle Du spoke as if he were talking about his own child, "He is very dedicated to his work, almost entirely consumed by it, which gives us concern. But rest assured, our Mr. Griffin is an exceptional person, good-looking, and has a great personality. After marriage, he'll definitely be a great partner."

Hearing this, Scarlett couldn't help but chuckle.

"What's so funny, Miss Xavier?"
