Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Griffin Family's Old Man

"I won't marry! Dad wants my sister to marry, not me! I don't want to marry that old man from the Griffin Family!"

In the evening, just as Scarlett Xavier got home and went upstairs, she heard Yasmine Morgan and her mother Joyce Leighton talking in the room.

Joyce Leighton persuaded patiently, "The Griffin Family has such good conditions, marrying into their family is like enjoying a good life! If your sister marries him, you'll regret it in the future! I'm still keeping it from her, haven't told her yet."

Hearing this, Scarlett couldn't help but let out a bitter smile.

After all these years, her mother truly hadn't changed a bit, always wanting the best for Yasmine.

Yet Yasmine didn't understand her mother's good intentions and snorted, "I don't want to, I'm still young, and I don't want to marry. If Scarlett wants to marry, let her marry! The Griffin Family's conditions are indeed good, but have you thought, why would they be interested in Scarlett?"

Joyce Leighton was taken aback by Yasmine's words, "Why?"

Yasmine lowered her voice and whispered, "I heard someone say that old man from the Griffin Family is jinxed with wives, his previous fiancées all died because of him! Mom, if you want me to marry him, aren't you trying to kill me?"

Upon hearing this, Joyce's tone was no longer as firm, "Where did you hear that? Is there such a thing?"

"My friend is a relative of the Griffin Family, she should be aware of their affairs, right? Otherwise, with their good conditions, why can't that old man find a wife, and instead, they come to our family? Why did they choose Scarlett?" Reaching this point, Yasmine said, "Don't let Scarlett find out about this! She definitely wouldn't agree to marry if she knew!"

After hearing Yasmine's words, Joyce immediately changed her mind, "Alright. I'll tell your sister when she gets back."

"Dad has always favored Scarlett, and now that there's a problem at home, it's time for Scarlett to make some effort for the family."

Standing outside the door, Scarlett could imagine Yasmine's gloating expression even if she couldn't see it.

They were half-siblings, born to the same mother but different fathers.

After their parents divorced, her mother remarried Uncle Monroe and had Yasmine.

Scarlett had always lived with her father.

After her father unexpectedly passed away, Scarlett came to the Monroe Family to live with her mother.

She remembered before the divorce, her mother was quite nice to her.

However, after coming to this family, she realized that not living together for all these years, she had long become an outsider in her mother's eyes, while Yasmine was her real daughter.

Her mother always planned everything for Yasmine, showing a blatant favoritism.

Sometimes Scarlett even doubted if she was really her biological daughter.

Instead, Uncle Monroe was quite kind to her.

But because of this, Yasmine always disliked her.

...

Scarlett had returned to her room and changed into home clothes when Joyce Leighton pushed the door open and came in, "You're back! And you didn't even say a word."

Scarlett replied indifferently, "I saw you were busy, didn't want to bother you."

Joyce paused for a moment, in the past two years, Scarlett's personality seemed increasingly cold and withdrawn, speaking less and less, and she never knew what Scarlett was thinking.

This made her very uneasy.

She became more cautious when speaking in front of Scarlett, "By the way, you're not young anymore, your Uncle Monroe found a matchmaking prospect for you."

Recalling the conversation between Joyce and Yasmine she had just overheard, Scarlett felt a chill in her heart, what did they take her for?

She flatly refused, "Not interested."
