Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Reject

"Yes!"

[Affinity with 'Ex-Sergeant' has risen by 20.]

The reason Godspeed chose to accept the quest was quite evident: he just wanted to be entertained. And what else then a quest that will take who-knows how long, and can guarantee his attention the whole time? Why would he not accept such a quest?

[The quest has been accepted.]

'But how am I supposed to make someone into a knight in 2 months?' Godspeed's face suddenly grimaced after realizing how limited his time was. 'Doesn't it usually take the NPCs years to become a knight, and I got a fraction of that time?'

"Gaaaah..."

In complete awe, a barely audible whisper left Moonshine's mouth.

"Incredible...if I can complete the original 'Knight' quest before gaining this one as well... then...I can become something amazing..." Giddiness couldn't help but fill her up as she stood there. She didn't even try to restrain her excitement from the game, unlike usual.

'Wait, how long do I have?' After quickly skimming through the quest again, she turned to Godspeed.

"Are you the one that is going to teach me?"

"Yep."

"Then how much time do we have to complete this?"

"T-two months..."

"Is that a lot?"

"Not even close."

'Crap. If I'm right, then somewhere around 3 weeks in real life is 2 months in here...'

And then, realization dawned on her.

'I'm so screwed!' Grabbing her head, she couldn't help but shake it around. 'I've got an actual life outside of this that takes priority... Forget 2 months, I probably won't even have half of that!'

Trying to rack through her head for a solution, she looked like as if she had squirrels in her pants.

'Think! Think! Think!'

And she thunk. And that 'thunk' came to her. Slowly but surely, all of the excitement started to leave her, and her raised shoulders slowly fell, as did her hands.

"Why all the stress... all over a game? You already have a job to stress over in real life..." Over and over, she told herself that. On Repeat, Repeat, Repeat, Repe--.

Like a broken record that couldn't go forward, the thoughts wouldn't leave her mind. As if she was trying to ignore what she saw in the game, what she wanted in the game.

But those thoughts wouldn't go unnoticed much longer.

"Hey."

The gloomy eyes looked up, staring right back at her caller.

"Why you keep doing that, man?"

'?'

"What do you mean?"

"What do I mean? 'I mee~an' why do you keep rejecting. Why do you keep rejecting this game? This world?"

"Why do I..." she frowned, unsure of how to answer. "Why do I reject the game? Well... it's just a game. It's just something to give me relief, not stress me out. It's not like the world thinks the game is that serious..."

Godspeed's jaw unhinged like a snake after hearing that. "Not that serious?"

"Kekekekeke!!" The cackling of a madman filled Moonshine's ears, while the doubling over of a high-ranker filled her vision.

'Did I break him?' she couldn't help but wonder.

"kekeke.... hah, ha." Finally gaining his self back, he gasped for air before speaking. "Damn. And I thought I was living under a rock."

"Is that an... insult?" The embers in Moon's eye began to glow red.

"Wha--- Noooo.... yeeeah."

"Ffmmm!" The smoke from a raging bull seemed to leave her nose. God was able to draw the red back in time, though.

"Hey hey; no need to get mad so soon. All I'm saying is... have you not seen around yourself. I thought at your level you would start to UNDERSTAND."

"... what do you mean?"

As his grin reached from ear to ear, he continued. "That the world revolves around Satisfy. Sure, we're not even 2 years in , but I can tell. This place has already started to change everything outside."

The confused look on Moon's face still hasn't left.

"Haven't you noticed? Every time you chat with your friends, or you turn on the TV, or you hear gossiping at the bar, what do you hear? 1 word: Satisfy."

'Oh..yeah...the granny... and the news channel... and the chicken.'

'I'm hungry.'
