Even if a furious storm of fiery retorts was bubbling at the back of her throat, Jillyanna had thoroughly learned her terrifying lesson. Her hand instinctively drifted down to rest over her lower stomach, feeling the slight, warm pulse beneath her palm. The memory of the thick crimson blood pooling on her white sheets was still far too vivid, far too frightening. She knew that if she allowed her emotions to spiral out of control again, if she let her pulse skyrocket and her blood pressure spike into dangerous territory, she risked losing her precious baby forever.
Suppressing a harsh sigh, she forced herself to relax her shoulders and sink back into the soft hospital mattress.
"Call me if you need anything at all, okay?" Travis reminded her once more, his deep voice carrying a soft, cautious edge as he hovered near the edge of the velvet sofa, scanning her face for any sign of lingering distress or physical pain.
