Chapter 814 - Chapter 804. Kidnapped

The Incubus System Chapter 804. Kidnapped

I took a deep breath and leaned against the kitchen counter, my mind already preoccupied with the current situation. "Is she still there?" I asked Celia. Ruby's relentless stalking was becoming a daily occurrence, and I was growing tired of her constant presence.

Celia, who had been keeping an eye on Ruby's whereabouts, glanced out the window for a moment before turning back to me. "She's not there anymore, but I saw her lurking near the window a while ago. It seems like she's trying to listen to our conversation," she replied, her voice lowered to ensure Ruby wouldn't overhear.

I couldn't help but shake my head in exasperation.

"Well, she is a demon hunter, after all. You'd think she'd be better at this," I muttered, my tone nonchalant.

Ruby's attempts at eavesdropping were becoming increasingly futile. With the TV blaring with the cheerful voices of cartoons, the lively presence of Jill, and my pets playing around, deciphering our conversation would be a challenging task even for someone as skilled as Ruby.

Celia let out a soft chuckle, sharing my sentiment. "You've got a point there. She's not very subtle."

I turned off the tap and dried my hands, finally glancing towards the window where Ruby had been lurking. Even though I couldn't see her, I knew she was close by.

"So? What are you going to do?" she asked once again.

"I think it's time to face her head-on. I can't keep playing cat and mouse," I declared with a resigned shrug. Ruby's relentless pursuit had been going on for far too long, and I couldn't keep dodging her forever. I had been oscillating between the idea of taking her as my woman, something she seemed to want, or continuing to evade her advances. The final decision would come down to her ability to meet my standards.

Celia let out a sigh of relief. "Honestly, I'm tired of seeing her come back and forth to our place," she complained, her irritation evident.

I couldn't help but exhale sharply, rolling my eyes in response to Celia's exasperation. She was right; Ruby's constant appearances were getting old. "Alright, alright," I acquiesced reluctantly. Whether I liked it or not, it was high time I dealt with Ruby's persistent pursuit once and for all. "I'm going to step out for a moment," I announced, pushing myself away from the kitchen counter.

"Where are you going?" she complained, her tone heavy with concern and annoyance.

I paused for a moment, meeting Celia's eyes with a serious expression. "You asked me to deal with her, right?" I replied calmly. "Well, now I'm going to do just that. But while I handle Ruby, I need you to look after Jill and play along. Keep her safe, alright?" I gave her a firm but reassuring order.

Celia's frown deepened, and she shook her head slowly. "You're making it sound like you're heading into a life-or-death situation," she grumbled.

I chuckled at her reaction, trying to ease the tension. "Oh, it's not that dramatic," I reassured her with a half-smile. "I just want to have a straightforward talk with Ruby, that's all. Just play along."

She answered me with a frown.

"I want to buy sodas. Do you want something?" I suddenly blurted out in a much louder voice than our previous conversation. My hope was that Ruby would overhear our exchange.

Celia immediately caught on to my ruse. She knew that this sudden soda run was just a cover for something else. Without missing a beat, she replied, "Orange soda."

"Okay. Orange soda it is," I responded, making my way toward the exit. I intentionally jingled the loose change in my pocket as I walked, creating a subtle auditory signal that I was heading out. The message was clear: I was on my way to the old vending machine situated in front of the small store nearby.

My steps were light. I walked away from our house. I couldn't help but hum a tune under my breath, trying to maintain an air of casual nonchalance. The plan was clear in my mind. Create a diversion, draw Ruby away from her lurking spot, and confront her once and for all.

I strolled along the quiet residential street and kept my senses sharp. Passing by our house, then Mrs. Clea's, I half-expected Ruby to emerge from the shadows and approach me. But to my surprise, she didn't make a move.

This unexpected turn of events raised a red flag. Ruby was relentless in her pursuit, never missing an opportunity to shadow my steps. It was strange that she wasn't taking the bait today.

I continued walking, putting some distance between myself and our house. It wasn't until I reached a house a few doors down, one that should have been empty, that I noticed something unusual – a car parked in front of it.

"Ethan," came Ruby's voice from behind me. I stopped in my tracks and turned around, fully prepared for a lengthy confrontation. However, what happened next was entirely unexpected.

Without warning, Ruby sprayed me with some sort of substance several times. I blinked in surprise, momentarily disoriented as the mist settled around me.

I instinctively raised my hand in response to the sudden spray, assuming it might be pepper spray, a classic choice for self-defense. But by then, it was too late. The liquid had already made contact with my face.

"What the..." I began, my voice trailing off as I tried to make sense of the situation.

I couldn't help but grimace, wiping away the strange substance from my skin. It had a faint, almost pleasant scent, but its effects were far from pleasant. An unexpected announcement popped up right in front of me.

[Ruby has used Fast Sleeping Spray on you!]

[Do you want to neutralize the effect?]

[Yes / No]
