Naruto: The Second Chance of Obito Uchiha

Chapter 3: The Future Begins to Change

The weeks following the bell test passed quickly.

Team Minato settled into a rhythm.

They completed D-rank missions around the village, helping farmers, delivering supplies, finding lost pets, and assisting civilians.

To everyone else, they looked like an ordinary newly formed genin team.

But Minato knew better.

Especially when it came to Obito.

"Mission complete!"

Rin smiled as the old woman thanked them for helping repair a damaged fence.

"You three make an excellent team."

Kakashi simply nodded.

"It was a simple mission."

Obito scratched the back of his head and laughed.

"It still feels good to help."

The old woman smiled warmly.

"You're going to become a fine shinobi someday."

Obito returned the smile.

"I'll do my best."

As they walked away, Rin glanced at him.

"You've changed."

Obito blinked.

"Hm?"

"You don't complain about small missions anymore."

Kakashi looked over his shoulder.

"She has a point."

Obito chuckled.

"I guess I realized every mission matters."

Neither of them knew why.

Obito remembered too many villages destroyed by war.

Too many innocent people caught in battles they never asked for.

Protecting people on the smallest missions mattered just as much as saving them on the battlefield.

Later that afternoon, Team Minato gathered at Training Ground Three.

Minato smiled as he watched his students.

"You've all improved."

Kakashi stood confidently.

"I still need to get stronger."

"You always say that," Rin replied with a laugh.

Obito smiled.

"And he's always right."

Kakashi raised an eyebrow.

"You agree with me?"

"Don't get used to it."

Rin couldn't help but giggle.

Their constant arguments had become much friendlier.

Minato noticed.

Whatever had changed in Obito after graduation…

It was changing Kakashi as well.

"Today's lesson," Minato said, "is sparring."

Kakashi immediately stepped forward.

"I'll fight Obito."

Obito sighed dramatically.

"Of course you will."

Rin laughed.

"You two really can't help yourselves."

The two boys walked into the clearing.

Minato raised one hand.

"Begin."

Kakashi disappeared instantly.

Obito smiled.

He's even faster than I remember.

A kick came from behind.

Obito leaned just enough to avoid it.

Kakashi's eyes widened.

He followed with a punch.

Obito blocked it effortlessly.

Not with overwhelming speed.

With perfect timing.

The exchange continued for several minutes.

Neither landed a decisive blow.

Finally, Minato called out.

"That's enough."

The two stepped back.

Kakashi stared at Obito.

"When did you get this good?"

Obito rubbed the back of his head.

"I've been practicing."

Kakashi frowned.

That answer wasn't enough.

Obito moved like someone with years of real combat experience.

Minato had noticed the same thing.

As the sun began to set, Minato dismissed the team.

"Tomorrow we'll take our first mission outside the village."

Rin's eyes lit up.

"Really?"

Minato nodded.

"You've earned it."

Kakashi simply adjusted his backpack.

Obito's smile faded.

Outside the village…

His thoughts drifted toward the future.

Toward Kannabi Bridge.

Toward the mission that was supposed to change everything.

Not yet.

But it was getting closer.

That evening, Obito made his way to a secluded clearing deep within the forest.

He carefully checked his surroundings.

No chakra signatures.

No ANBU.

No teammates.

Satisfied, he formed a hand seal.

His crimson eyes slowly transformed.

One tomoe.

Two.

Three.

The Sharingan spun quietly.

Obito closed his eyes.

He remembered every lesson from Kakashi.

Every battle with Naruto.

Every fight against Madara.

Every moment using Kamui.

"I can't use those abilities…"

His younger body simply wasn't ready.

His chakra reserves were far too small.

But his experience remained.

He drew several kunai from his pouch.

With a flick of his wrist, they flew through the trees.

Each struck the exact center of a target hidden among the branches.

Without the Sharingan guiding him.

Pure instinct.

Pure experience.

He smiled faintly.

"I'm getting used to this body."

Far beneath the earth…

An old man sat connected to the Demonic Statue.

Madara Uchiha slowly opened his eyes.

White Zetsu emerged from the ground.

"I've been watching the boy."

Madara remained silent.

"He isn't following the path you predicted."

Madara's expression darkened.

"Explain."

"He trains every night."

"His attitude has changed."

"And…"

White Zetsu hesitated.

"He fights like a veteran."

Madara slowly closed his eyes.

Impossible.

Obito should still be an emotional child.

Not someone with the instincts of a seasoned shinobi.

A faint smile crossed Madara's face.

"Interesting."

"If fate has changed…"

His Sharingan gleamed in the darkness.

"Then I will simply adapt."

Back in Konoha, Obito stood atop the Hokage Monument.

The wind brushed against his face.

He looked down at the village sleeping peacefully below.

His village.

His home.

The place he had once abandoned.

"I won't make the same mistakes."

He clenched his fist.

"The Third Great Ninja War is coming."

"I know every move Madara intends to make."

"I know every tragedy waiting to happen."

His eyes reflected the lights of Konoha.

"And this time…"

A determined smile spread across his face.

"I'm going to rewrite history."

Far below, the village slept peacefully.

Unaware that one of its young genin carried the memories of a future that no longer had to come to pass.

The first ripple in fate had already begun.

And soon…

The entire shinobi world would feel its effects.
