'Why is he just… standing there?' Ed thought to himself. Though he looked battered and bruised, Ed was in fact, in near perfect shape. This meant he was still itching for a fight but… His opponent was simply standing in place…?

He was not what he used to be.
The reality was that Balin had transcended humanity. In spite of this, he still felt human emotions. Was this a remnant of his origin or was it natural for one's consciousness to feel?
And what Balin felt now… It was melancholy. A pensive sadness. This feeling left him frozen in place.
Though he had transcended his mortal coil and evolved into a higher being, there was no joy.
