Chapter 2 - The Basement Dwellers

Jeffrey had zero clue what to make of it.

Sure, he drugged and attempted to sacrifice his favorite nephew in-order to "hail Satan", as the kids say. But, something seemed wrong.

After he slit the boy's throat, the wound... Reversed. The blood that had poured out slowly crawled back in, defying gravity, physics, and basic logic. Jeffrey stared in amazement as this happened, thinking the possession must have been a success in this case. But, immediately after that, the boy's eyes opened.

They were pure black, as if the night itself was pouring out of them. A pair of folded bat-like-wings emerged slowly from the boy's naked back, and the boy then proceeded to crack his neck at a strange angle.

The boy then immediately... Began talking to himself.

"Well that's not good." He said, then closed his eyes for ten seconds. Normally, this wouldn't be counted, but as an analog clock ticked away the seconds, Jeffrey felt anxious (for obvious reasons).

The eyes opened again, and somehow, the room grew darker. It looks like that sentence from earlier wasn't a joke, the blackness of the coal-like eyes truly sprawled across the room like a creature of pure shadow attempting to pounce on every corner of the stoney basement.

"Yo, welcome." The "boy" stated. Jeffrey was taken aback with shock, and replied promptly.

"Lord, have you answered my call?" His face morphed in surprise, he quickly kneeled to show loyalty.

What the boy replied really threw him off, however.

"In your head, or I suppose OUR head." His arms then broke the shackles binding him in-place and he promptly... Bowed.

Jeffrey blinked a few times, staring in unabashed confusion.

"My Lord?" He asked to clarify whether or not the Demon was conscious of it's surroundings.

This was a mistake. The demonic boy immediately stared deep into his eyes, and the darkness of the basement crawled to swallow him whole. As cold sweat emerged, he closed his eyes in fear, and the feeling disappeared just as quickly, as the boy spoke again.

"I'm Levi Alveister the Tenth. Though I prefer 'Levi A. X' when that's written."

"Th-the Demon Lord of Envy? But that's wrong! I was trying to summon Lucifer!" Jeffrey cried, realizing his attempt had not gone to plan. He just killed his family-member for nothing!

The Demon then closed it's eyes again for another ten seconds. Then twenty. Thirty...

Around two minutes passed as the eyes beneath the boy's eyelids flitted around sporadically.

Was he in REM Sleep somehow? The thought passed Jeffrey's mind, but then the boy's eyes opened again and bore holes through Jeffrey's soul, so he waited for the reply.

"Y'see every now and then you mortals get up to some nefarious deeds in our name in-order to obtain something or other. Most of the time it's for Lucy, but unfortunately for almost all of you, pretty much everyone except Lucy answers."

Jeffrey realized his error. If Lucifer was the King of Hell, then calling him of all demons to listen to a poor man's request was the dumbest thing a guy (especially of his nefarious caliber) could do. Jeffrey promptly put his hands and head on the ground, still kneeling, in-order to downright pray to this Demon Lord.

"Please, have mercy. I merely wished to ask for assistance!"

What surprised Jeffrey was what the Demon did in-response. It tilted it's head and narrowed it's eyes at him, forcing the dark beams that continuously emanated from them to shine on him specficially, like a blacklight.

"And that would be?" It spoke in a monotone voice, extremely different compared to the previous conversations. It was finally as if the Demon was speaking to him!

"I... I need to replace Richard. It sounds vain to kill his son to do so, but I need Nikki's hand in marriage. It... It's my right!" Tears were shed from this merciless man's face, making the Demon's eyes widen and a small smirk to grow, his surprise apparent.

"Is that so?"

...

After hearing Levi's words, George was extremely confused. He stared at the demon for a while before asking a question.

"Resurrection... Meaning I've been saved from death?"

"Yep. You were gonna die otherwise. We're, well, I am currently conversing with dear uncle Jeffrey as of this moment. Would you like to see...?"

George couldn't help but be taken aback.

Just what the hell was this situation? The only reason he was keeping his head together was because of all his years playing roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons. If he had zero experience with strange situations, he'd be fairly certain that his head would've blown off by now.

"I... I suppose."

The white room slowly faded away, and he found himself staring out from his body. Though, it was different. It seemed more akin to a combination between his own, and the strange Demonic-Elven body that Levi possessed.

"Please, have mercy. I merely wished to ask for assistance!"

George was finally aware of what was going on, as he looked straight at his own Uncle. Though for some reason, he seemed... Smaller?

-Answer: Due to partial possession by Demon Lord Levi A. X, host has manifested a body that maintains traits from both individuals.-

There it was! The System!

-Answer: Host is correct. System is a manifestation of Demonic Possession, and in host's situation, resurrection. System serves to guide both Host and Possessor in-order to ensure balance.-

So this wasn't like all the Christian fables? He wouldn't be spasming and whirling around like a maniac?

-Answer: Possessions from Demons below the Rank of Lord results in possession without system.-

The monotone voice that was neither distinctly male or female stopped it's sentence abruptly, forcing George to ask himself why it stopped.

-Answer: Host is not currently privy to demonology. Inquire with Posessor for more information.-

So that was it. It seems like a strange relationship between the Human and their Demon, with the System acting as a mediator. But, why? Who would design such a thing?

-Answer: Host is not currently privy to divination. System is unsure where host should inquire for this information.-

That was hint enough. Clearly this system was from something beyond even his possessor.

-"Hey, kid. You're not wasting time or anything, but this is boring. Ask the guy what he wants."-

Ah, that's right. His murderous uncle was in-front of him.

"And that would be?" George replied, trying his best to stifle back any negative emotion he may bear towards his uncle. Apparently, the system helped, because immediately upon his attempt he found his voice to automatically become transmitted as stoic and smooth.

"I... I need to replace Richard. It sounds vain to kill his son to do so, but I need Nikki's hand in marriage. It... It's my right!" Tears were shed from this merciless man's face. This prompted George to internally cringe and feel disgusted, but the system projected this as a malevolent smile.

Disgusting! He killed George just to replace his father and marry his mother? What the hell kind of creep is Jeffrey!?

"Is that so?" George asked to clarify, as his system and Demon prepared their own answers.

-Based on expressions and tone, system clarifies that it is likely the truth.-

-"Yeah, he wanted Lucy because he felt prideful about being the elder brother. Unfortunately for him, he was too envious... So here I am."-
