Chapter 9 - the chess game

Lee Mansion - Entrance

When Aara entered the Lee mansion, Jay was waiting for her. She didn't care and walked past him.

"Wait!" Jay grabbed her arm. "What do you think of yourself? I heard you ditched me in the meeting."

Aara pulled her hand away coldly. "That was a directors' meeting and I'm the Chairman of X Group. So know yourself and watch your words."

Jay sneered. "You little trash... Chairman? Do you know what business is? Or do you even know how to spell that word?"

Aara smiled dangerously. "I have 4 major degrees in business. Do you think you can ask me that question? And if you fail the next meeting, I'll definitely ditch you out of X GROUP."

"How dare you..."

Soo Young rushed in. "Jay, calm down!"

Aara walked to her room and threw herself on the bed.

"It's a big day today... I'm so tired," she whispered, closing her eyes.

After resting, she went to meet Leo at a quiet restaurant.

Restaurant - Evening

"Did you find anything?" Aara asked.

Leo smiled. "Of course."

"Really? What's that?"

"Before we target Jay and Soo Young," Leo said seriously, "let's find details about the X Group directors."

"Why?"

"Because I suspect 3 directors in X GROUP."

"3 directors?"

"Yes. The 1st is Kim Gong, the 2nd is Dr. Laurent, and the last one is... my father. Mr. Tang."

Aara froze. "Why Mr. Tang too?"

"Before your father's death, I once checked my father's bank account," Leo lowered his voice. "There was $40 million transferred to his account. I don't know who sent that much money to him."

"So why don't we start from Mr. Tang?"

"No, not now," Leo shook his head. "Let's find Director Mr. Gong first. Because he is very important."

"Okay. Director Gong was one of the most trustable persons in X GROUP and he was very close to my father."

"That's all before Soo Young came to your family, Aara," Leo said. "Now he is one of the biggest shareholders in X GROUP and he was a very competitive candidate for the chairman seat."

"Do you think he's also trying to be chairman of X GROUP?"

"Not before, but he definitely aims for that now," Leo said. "If my guess is correct... he is in the Lee mansion right now."

Aara stood up. "What? Why?"

"Go and find out," Leo said, pointing at her. "It's a chess game, Aara. And they've already started to play. Now they're ready to target the queen."

Lee Mansion - Living Room

Aara rushed home and saw Mr. Gong sitting on the sofa. She was shocked.

"Oh, Aara," Mr. Gong smiled warmly. "It's been years. I met you when you were 10. Do you remember? You were with your mother that time."

And then she recalled...

Flashback

Her mother stood in the garden, angry and crying.

"Don't come to me again! I'm married now!"

A man pleaded, "I loved you. How can I see you hurt this much?"

"It's none of your business. You can go now."

Little Aara ran in. "Mom..."

The man turned. "Is this your daughter?"

Her mother pushed Aara back. "Aara, go to your room!"

The man bent down and looked at Aara kindly. That person was Mr. Gong.

"So your name is Aara? That's a beautiful name."

"Aara, I said go to your room!" her mother shouted.

Aara ran to her room but watched them secretly from the door.

Mr. Gong sighed. "Okay, fine. I'm going now. But I'm not going to just stand and watch if anything happens to you."

After he left, her mother sat on the sofa and cried so much.

Present

"Aara? Aara, what happened?" Mr. Gong's voice pulled her back.

After recalling her memories, Aara's vision blurred — and she fainted suddenly.
