Chapter 5 - The Fight to Protect 5

After Jack came home after training his father he was no longer at home, so Jack quickly changed clothes and went to help his father in the workshop, Jack wanted to tell his father about his decision.

When Jack arrived at the workshop Tim had already lit the forge and was starting to prepare the metal ingots to make the sword he was thinking of making today, Jack arrived at the workshop and decided that he should tell him his decision before starting work.

"Dad, I decided that I want to become a hunter, I always liked to fight and I want to help more people here in the village and go hunting with Mark and Ron."

Tim who was getting ready to start melting the iron ingot had to stop after hearing what Jack had said, he looked at Jack and saw that his son was not playing and was really thinking about becoming a hunter.

"Jack, you don't know what you're talking about, being a hunter is a difficult and very risky profession, you yourself were almost killed by three lions even though you were away from the forest, many young people leave the village because they don't want to become hunters."

"I from all of this, dad, I know it can be a dangerous profession, but I want to fight Mark and Ron, I want to help them and feel like I'm doing something, and I know how to use the sword you gave me, I can protect myself."

"So do you intend to become a hunter? Do you no longer want to become a blacksmith like your father? Do you know how many people would dream of the opportunity to have a workshop and become my apprentices?"

"That's not it, dad, I still want to become a blacksmith and take care of this workshop and help you and make weapons and armor as well as you do, but I know it will be many years before I can make swords and armor as you do."

"So I wanted to help Mark and Ron and become a hunter, but I still intend to help you forge every morning until the afternoon, then I go with Mark and Ron and you can just sell the things you have accumulated in stock."

Hearing Jack says that Tim became calmer and realized that his son had thought long before talking to him about it, becoming a hunter was dangerous, but Mark and Ron were the best hunters in all the villages and so they remained unharmed even working for several years.

Tim realized that his son really wanted to become a hunter and if he could help in the workshop until the afternoon, then Tim could teach everything Jack needed to learn and Jack would still know how to protect himself if he learned a few things from Mark and Ron.

"Okay then, Jack, I realized that you really thought about it and this is what you want, so I'm going to ask Mark and Ron if they want you to become a hunter with them, after all, they are the ones who are going to have to teach you everything for years to come."

"Thanks, Dad."

Jack was very happy because Tim had agreed to this much more easily than he thought, Jack was excited about it because he knew that Mark and Ron were impressed by his courage and that he killed a lion alone.

Hunters usually walked around the village to find out if there were any wild animals that could endanger the village, so they spent the whole morning just doing it and only the afternoon that they went into the forest and that's why Jack thought it was possible.

Tim was being sincere about allowing Jack to become a hunter if Mark and Ron wanted to teach him, so Tim invited them both to his house so he could talk about it in front of Jack.

So if Mark and Ron refused to do that, Jack wouldn't be able to say that Tim had talked to the two before and convinced them to refuse to teach Jack to become a hunter, because while Jack was confident that they would accept Tim, he was confident that they would not accept.

"Hi Mark, hi, Ron, thanks for coming to my house when I called, I know that Jack and I have been bothering you a lot in the last few days, but unfortunately we will have to bother you again."

"It's okay, the armaments you gave us have helped us a lot in the last few hunts, besides, we had to help you because it was the right thing to do after everything Jack did."

Mark and Ron were being sincere saying that, this time their wives were not in the river washing their clothes, but they were also going to the river like all the other women several times, so it could be their wives that Jack would have saved.

"So I'm going to tell you why I called you here, after what happened a few days ago Jack decided he wanted to become a hunter because he said he admires you and that he likes to fight and wants to help protect the village and hunt with you."

"I said I would accept that he became a hunter, but only if you accepted him as a hunter and committed to teaching what he has to learn and protecting him until he learns to be a hunter."

"Jack also said that he would be a hunter only in the afternoon after helping me in the workshop every morning and he could help you until the evening, in addition in the future he does not intend to become a hunter and will take over my workshop after I retire and become a blacksmith."

Tim told the whole truth and didn't hide anything from Mark and Ron, it made Jack angry, but as the truth was he just waited for his dad to say everything and he had to wait to know what Mark and Ron's response would be.

Jack was less confident that they would accept him after what his father said and Tim was even more sure that the two would not want Jack as a hunter having so many problems and in the future, Jack would not even become a hunter.

Mark asked Ron to talk about it privately as it was a decision the two of them had to make, seeing this Tim became even more confident that they would not accept it.
