Chapter 8 - Learning New Things 2

"When Mark pulls the string and releases the arrow he will have to do it quickly because he needs a lot of effort to keep the bowstring pulled, you will know this when you try, it is very heavy to pull the bowstring and keep it."

With Ron explaining, Jack paid even more attention and Mark kept shooting, he hit the nearest straw target and also hit the most distant ones with the same preparation time and pulling the bowstring.

It was Mark who had killed the first lion and then wounded the lion that attacked them when they were going to save Jack from the attack of the three lions, the lions were fast and had to have a lot of skill to hit an arrow when they were attacking.

After Mark twice demonstrated how Jack had to do it Ron took the bow that Tim made for Jack and handed it to him, Ron had already put a string on the bow and was ready for Jack to use it.

"I don't know if you noticed that, but Mark and I wear a shirt like that and gloves whenever we go hunting, the glove is so that we don't hurt our hands when we use the bow, and the shirt has a pad made by our wives to protect the arm if the rope ends up hitting our arm after shooting the arrow."

"As you don't have this, I will give you a protector that I used in my training and I will also give you these gloves, the armor that your father gave you can already serve as a protector, but as it is heavy you will not use it training."

"You have to be standing with your back straight and positioned sideways towards the target with your legs slightly apart, you have to let the arm that holds the arm straight and straight towards the target and the bowstring has to be aligned to the target."

"Then you put the arrow in the bow and use the first three fingers of your right hand to pull the string supporting the back of the arrow between the first and second fingers, you pull the string with the three fingers with the arm that holds the straight arc towards the target."

"Then you pull the string until it touches the tip of your nose and your hand touches your chin, then you release the string with the arrow by pulling your hand slightly back and keep the arm that holds the bow straight until the arrow hit the target and only then can you relax your arms."

Jack heard everything Ron was saying while holding the bow in his left hand, he was also right-handed and could shoot like Mark and Ron, he did the posture as he heard Ron say and when he pulled the bowstring he realized how heavy it really was and he had to use a lot of force to pull the rope.

Fortunately, he had the strength to do that, but keeping the rope pulled really tired his arm, Ron told Jack not to shoot and just learn to position, then Ron would correct him and maybe Jack could hit the target on his first attempt.

"You saw how difficult it is to keep the bowstring pulled, Hahaha, but you have to do that in the first few days to learn the posture."

Mark could be better at shooting with his bow and arrow, but it was Ron who taught better, so Ron had to improve his skills alone as an archer because even if Mark was more talented he didn't know how to teach.

Ron was a great teacher, but he was also very strict and didn't let Jack shoot at all in the first three days of training, Jack would prefer not to hit the first try if he could shoot more often to see how it goes.

"I know you want to try to shoot Jack, but the posture is very important for you to learn because it has become a habit and you have to get used to it correctly because when an animal appears you won't have more than 7 seconds to fix the posture and shoot the arrow."

"There are many archers who sometimes hit the target with the wrong posture, then it becomes much more difficult to correct the posture because the archer starts to think that he is better than the others and can do it his way."

"But now I think you learned well and can try to shoot the bow today, I hope you can get it right."

Jack was very happy to hear that, he could be different from other young men his age, but he was also impatient when he had to wait too long to do what he wanted to do, just as Ron had said Jack took the bow and did the correct posture quickly as Ron had taught.

Ron corrected Jack dozens of times because his posture was wrong, but now he could do the correct posture faster, of course, he still had a lot of flaws, but since he had never shot with a bow and arrow, Ron was not very demanding.

Jack took a few deep breaths before pulling the bowstring to calm down, being calmer Jack pulled the string with the arrow and had to aim where the target was because he still couldn't make the instinctive shot without ever trying.

Jack knew he shouldn't hold the bowstring for too long and when he thought he could hit he released the string and the arrow hit the target at the top almost missing the target, only after the arrow hit the target that Jack can relax your arm.

"Okay, Jack, just like I said you got it right on your first try, you made some mistakes and you still need practice, but for your first try it went very well."

Jack was very happy to have hit the target on his first attempt, he almost missed after trying it for the first time he knew he was wrong in his posture and so he missed, so he can feel that his training in the last few days was worth.

Mark and Ron were surprised by Jack getting it right the first time, they said it was normal to get it right on the first try to take some of his pressure off and also not to let him get cocky if he got it right.

Theoretically, after learning the posture correctly he could get it right on the first try, but because of the nervousness most people made mistakes, to become an archer having talent was not essential, but it helped that someone could learn things more easily, and it seemed that Jack had talent.
