Lex followed Lana closely as they jogged the road leading to the Luthor mansion. Right now he was the most vulnerable he would ever be, at least until he found out to give himself powers. Right now he was counting on Reprogramming Braniac but if that didn't work he'd have to go about things differently. With the memories of Alex, he knew the ways other heroes had gained powers. Whether it was the Flash or Spider-Man, Lex would have to be careful with such experiments.
But for now, he would have to settle for being physically fit. He sighed as he watched Lana pick up speed with no warning. Putting his head down he did the same, he looked up in annoyance as he realized they were going uphill.
It wasn't long before they reached the Luthor mansion. Lex was exhausted compared to Lana but he stood tall hiding his bated breaths.
"You almost got me on that last hill," Lex commented as they entered his study. He quickly grabbed two water bottles handing one to Lana.
"Just making sure you can handle me," Lana replied as she opened her water bottle.
Lex nodded about to reply when he heard the door open. A man wearing a grey suit and tie entered with a briefcase in his hand. Lex's security followed behind him, Lex waved them off as he looked at the man.
"Dr.Groll last I checked our meeting isn't until tomorrow." Lex took a sip of his water as he looked at the doctor.
"Correct but I need a few words with you in private. "
"You can say anything in front of Miss Lang." Lex saw no reason to hide anything when neither Lana nor Dr.Groll knew what the device truly was.
"It's about the device," the doctor replied.
"Please," Lex motioned for Dr.Groll to proceed. Walking over to the piano, Dr.Groll opened the briefcase, pulling out half of a purple hexagon-looking device. It shone dimly, and one could only wonder how brightly it would shine if it were complete.
"Where did you get that?" Lana asked with a hint of worry in her voice.
"I found it and I asked Dr.Groll to figure out what it was," Lex said as his eyes never left the device, Brainiac
"Some kind of power source beyond anything discovered on earth, if we can find out how it works, we can solve the planet's energy crisis.
"Well, for someone on the verge of saving the world, your enthusiasm seems tempered."
There is one risk, if it fell into the wrong hands-."
"It could be used as a weapon," Lana finished his sentence. Lex frowned, realizing how foolish Zod was. He was too impatient, trying to terraform a planet with only Brainiac's core. But he was a man that had lost it all, due to his own decisions. Lex could kind of understand that.
"So if it's so dangerous shouldn't you be handing it into the government."
"But then he'd lose any chance at a Nobel prize, isn't that right Dr.Groll." Lex turned around taking a Sip of his water.
"What do you want me to do," Dr.Groll asked.
Turning around Lex placed his water bottle on the table. "Leave it with me, it seems you're having reservations. I'll assign you to a different project immediately. "
"Mr.Luthor," Dr.Groll wanted to argue but Lex cut him off.
"I'll see you tomorrow Dr.Groll," Lex walked over to the piano picking up the core. Holding it in his hands he knew this thing was his best chance at survival.
As the doors closed Lana stepped closer looking closely at the device. "What are you gonna do with it?"
"Dr.Groll was right Lana in the wrong hands this can be used as a weapon. People in the government will surely see it as such but none of them will see it as it truly is."
"What is it Lex," Lana asked curiously.
"Our salvation, they'll be back Lana and we have to be ready." Closing the briefcase Lex quickly walked over to his safe locking it inside.
"I want to help," Lana said with determination.
"You already are, you see the bigger picture like me. With your help we'll protect the world."
