On a bench under the big oak tree, Charmaine lifted her head to glance at him. Her eyes swollen, tears streaming on her cheeks. She tried to wipe her face with her sleeves as she saw him approaching, but he already saw her bawl her eyes out. There's really no need to hide it.
"Brother Jun." she greeted him with her hoarse voice. It looked like she wanted to say more but decided against it and just lowered her head.
Jun walked closer and sat on the other end of the bench. "I saw what happened. It wasn't your fault."
It was true. Earlier, he was heading to his diseased grandfather's study to retrieve some documents when he heard people shouting. There, outside Charmaine's room, the three year old Luke was standing. The door was ajar so he clearly heard Jienna's voice when she accused Charmaine of things and called her names.
