An overwhelming sense of accomplishment and quiet peace washed over me as I stood before the towering church window, gazing out at the world beyond. I couldn't help but wonder how I had come this far.
From a hungry, desperate young man to a well-dressed servant of God. From poverty to abundance. From a troubled soul to a prophet. From a sinner to a man of the cloth.
The memory of the first day I arrived at the church came rushing back with startling clarity. I had been frightened, confused, and uncertain of what the future held. Now, five years later, I gently run my fingers over the smooth fabric of my black suit before tracing them to the white clerical collar around my neck. I squeezed it lightly between my fingers, almost needing to reassure myself that it was real.
It was.
I was truly a pastor.
