Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Storm is brewing

Jessica, who rested her arms on the windowsill, was watching the heavy rain, falling down on the other side of the window with her green eyes. She was glad she could stay inside and her long black hair didn't get all soaked. Despite the clock showing just 2PM, dark clouds were covering the sky. The TV, which was showing the news about a typhoon in the Japanese Sea right now, was constantly at a bad signal, so it was hard to follow the words of the reporter. Jessica sighed.

"It's just a matter of time, until it reaches land. I hope the people are following evacuation orders."

Kenji looked at her, his expression slightly amused.

"Well, if they don't, that just means we'll have to get a bit wet."

Jessica's mood didn't turn a bit better. Everyone who knows her, was aware that she absolutely hated bad weather as this, she didn't know for what reason herself. She was mumbling to herself.

"Well, they better DO follow these orders."

Kenji could barely hear her and he wasn't sure if the reason for these words were actually her worries for the people, or just her bad mood. He shook his head and wanted to move in the kitchen, to make himself a sandwich, when the door of the apartment opened and Jason, all soaked, stepped into his home.

"Oh man, the wind is getting stronger, I literally saw a freaking motorbike getting carried away. Not to mention the rain, the typhoon is probably gonna hit land soon. We shou-"

He saw Jessicas face, which was obviously annoyed from the bad, and instantly stopped.

"Heyyy, Jessica, lil' sis'. How are you? I know you must be sad because of the bad wea-"

As he put his hand on her head, she looked him in the face with the eyes of a prisoner who had a bad day, so he decided it would be better to put away his hand again. Jessica tried to keep herself under control as she opened her mouth.

"Don't. Touch. Me. With that wet hand."

Jasom swallowed, apologizing he went to the bathroom to change into dry clothes. Kenji smiled to himself when the angry face looked at him.

"What's so funny!?"

Kenji put on a more serious face, for his own safety of course, then he went into the kitchen, to make his sandwich. While making it, Hikari appeared in the room, too. Kenji turned his head into her direction to warn her.

"Oh, better don't go there right now. Jessica's reeeaaaallllyyyy pissed."

Hikari looked at him, her eyes already knew the answer but she asked anyways.

"Because of the bad weather?"

Kenji just nodded while making another sandwich, as he let his friend continue talking.

"If we would just know how to help her. If she would remember why she hates bad weather so much, I am sure we could help her, get okay with it again."

Kenji, who was finishing a forth sandwich, didn't answer to that. He didn't want to say out loud that talking about "if"s won't do anything.

"Here."

He finished and held one of the sandwiches in Hikari's direction.

"Thanks."

Hikari smiled and took it. Kenji went to the door and stopped for a moment to look at Hikari, holding another sandwich on a plate in his hand.

"I'll give this to Jessica, food always makes her feel better. Give the other one to Jason when he finished don't eat it yourself."

Hikari looked after him with an amused face, while he left the room. The boy got behind Jessica, who still was staring at the rain with tired eyes.

"Looking at it all the time l, won't help you, you know."

Jessica shook her head a bit. She talked with a low voice.

"I know, but somehow I can't stop looking at it. And it makes me mad so just leave me, please before I make you mad, too!!"

Kenji put on a kind smile.

"Alright, I'll leave you, don't worry. But before-"

He didn't finish, he just took the sandwich and held it in front of her mouth. Jessica sniffed on it and her green eyes shined as she took a bit of it.

"Thank you, Kenji!! You are gonna be the best chef of the world."

Kenji looked amused at her.

"Yes, yes, whatever, if it just tastes good for you that's enough."

He stepped away again and sat down on the couch, turning on the TV but the signal was almost completely gone, he could barely hear and see anything except a noise. As he sighed he turned his head into Jessica's direction again.

"Let's both try to not fall into depression here."

Jessica got away from the window wnd sat down next to Kenji, her mood seemed to has gotten better after she had something to eat. With a little smile on her face, but still with a bored and annoyed expression from the bad weather, she laid her head on the boy's shoulder.

"Yes, let's try together…"

The two of them couldn't see Hikari standing in the doorframe with a slightly bothered and sad face. Jason got next to her. He sure recognized her expression but he didn't mention when Hikari started talking.

"There's something to eat for you over there."

Jason went to take it and sat down at a table, Hikari joined him and silence came upon the apartment. But soon enough a lightning would zap and it's thunder would break that silence…

A storm was coming…

-The raindrops falling down, their clouds darkening the sky, the thunder breaking the silence, and the lightning that would bring light…-
