Having received confirmation that he could begin, Luca got straight into designing a brand new weapon for himself. While mages generally did not need weapons, though the Evander Syndrome believed otherwise, Luca was special due to his unique class. As he would eventually unlock a second contemporary class, the Dragonborn boy was planning for that future. Intending to awaken the Rogue class, Luca began designing himself a dagger based on the time-tested Japanese tanto. Specifically, he was using one of the variations of the tanto, the yoroi-doshi (armour/mail piercer), which had a thicker cross-section designed to do exactly as it was named.
The first part he began working on was the blade itself, which he set at a length of 30cm. With the knowledge that he'd accumulated from the archives, numerous new runes were created, improved upon and then refined repeatedly in his mind. He focused mostly on ones that would maximize the weapon's purpose, such as runes for piercing armour, limiting wind resistance to make it silent when used, and a rune designed to pierce through space. Though the third rune was had great potential to cut through physical and magical defences, it was not as good as the Void-type version, which could do the same thing, but instead of just cutting or piercing, it would then corrode the defences. With the aid of the System, the runes were carefully scaled, measured and ready for combination with the blade.
Following his completion of the blade, Luca began to work on the aikuchi-style koshirae, or 'blade housing', that performed as a handle. As the aikuchi-style was made for the hilt and scabbard to meet without a hand-guard, or tsuba, there was only a need to create the scabbard and the handle, or 'tsuka'. As the tsuka took the form of two halves of the handle, with the blade between them, it meant that more runes could be applied onto the inside of the handle, which would be sealed into one whole once the blade was placed inside it. For the inside part of the handle, Luca and the System designed a telekinetic rune that would have its counterpart in the scabbard. When one of the two is activated, the corresponding rune would be drawn to the activated one. As the tanto blade was made to cut through space, it would have no problem returning to its scabbard.
Finally, Luca came to the scabbard of his designed weapon of choice. Aside from the telekinetic rune, a wind resistance rune similar to that of the blade's was added so it could be drawn quicker, along with a blood absorbing rune. While it would not fully maintain the blade, by removing the blood, it would reduce potential rust build-up. The removed blood could be discharged from the scabbard upon activation, so some cleaning would still be required.
After all three pieces of the entire tanto were designed completely, the Dragonborn lad moved to gather the items he would need to craft it. In the major cities of Andor, magic silver was extremely common, so finding that was easy. However, the Mages Guild had a large stock of other magic metals, such as the thorium that Luca had collected for the blade and the pegs to keep the blade secured to the handle. Dark brown ood made from the discarded pieces of the loyal guardians of the Wood Elven homeland of Felneserin, the treants, was prepared for the koshirae, as quite a lot of it had been stockpiled. For the runes, a feather from the D-grade Night Owl magic beast would be used for the quill, while the runes themselves would be made with blood from a similar D-grade magic beast, the Silver-tongued Viper.
Through the guidance of the System and his knowledge, the white-haired lad first used his Archimedean Field to shape the blade from the thorium, as it was the most difficult piece to complete. He carefully shaped the double-edged blade to his specifications, no more than just shy of 3cm wide and 30cm long. Next, he took the Treant Wood and shaped it into a scabbard and handle, both of which were left as individual halves. Luca took the Night Owl feather quill, dipping it into the vial of Silver-tongued Viper blood, and began etching the runes into the two handle halves first. As the handle would be sealed together, several runes needed to be separated before the sealing to join together seamlessly. Without the aid of the System, Luca doubted he was skilled enough to do it alone.
When he had completed the process again with the scabbard, Luca then moved on to the blade, as it had the most complex runes. The wind resistance rune was etched into the handle section, the armour-piercing rune was applied to the last 3cm of the blade, and the space-cutting rune claimed the remainder of the blade's area. With this, his blade had been completed, and all that remained was to combine and seal the parts together.
It took very little time for the runes to dry, so the handle was done first, with the blade fitting into one half, which then was covered by its opposite. Using the Archimedean Field, the handle halves were fused together, sandwiching the blade between them. Two small pegs made of thorium were inserted into the handle, holding the blade in place. Lifting the tanto up a little, Luca infused mana into the handle to activate the blade runes, which made the blade appear to vibrate at a high frequency despite not moving at all, showing the effects of the space-cutting rune at work. The scabbard was completed last, fully sealed together into a proper whole. Luca then tested the telekinetic rune on the handle, making the scabbard nearly fly out of his hand to combine with the handle of the tanto.
With his new dagger completed, Luca stacked the original designs, cleaned the table of any scraps or blood drips, cleansed the Night Owl feather and sealed the blood vial. After all of that was done, the boy took the designs and his new weapon and walked up to his examiners. After handing the designs to Master Eleanora, who had shifted to sit beside her fellow B-grade Enchanter, Master Joanna, and the dagger to Grandmaster Runette, Luca bowed respectfully, "I have completed my assignment."
