Veer feigned a hurtful expression.
"You didn't even look at me until I talked about her. Bro, don't hurt me like this."
Ajay frowned looking at Veer and his pout.
"Ugly."
Veer wanted to cry at that moment. "Bro, are you blind? How could you call this gorgeous face of mine, ugly? I regret worrying about you. You really are the 'cold monster' as everyone calls you. I won't come to see you ever again. Forget that you have a brother.".
The figure that rushed to the main door suddenly stopped. Veer slowly turned to Ajay and did a high-five gesture. Ajay hesitated for a second and did the same. They high-fived in the air. Then a fist bump and finally a pinky promise.
They smiled at each other encouragingly. "I want full details about my future sister-in-law the next time we meet," with that Veer left. Ajay was taken aback by the term 'future sister-in-law'. He didn't know if he thought of her in that way but he was aware of the changes in him after meeting her.
As for the hand gestures, they were something they used to do to cheer up each other during their childhood. The pinky promise represents the promise they did once. The promise they did to their mother when she was on her deathbed.
Ajay turned to look at the large portrait of him, his mother, and Veer. "We're happy, mom."
Monday.
"These kids nowadays are so naughty. I'm half-dead each time I finish a class." Diya heard Kala complaining.
"Bear with it, sis. You'll have a kid of your own by this time next year." another teacher said; teasing her. Kala shyly laughed and they continued to chat happily.
"Ha.ha. You all don't get a monthly salary for laughing and chatting during your work time. This is why I'm getting so many complaints from parents nowadays." Rowan was standing behind the counter; glaring at the teachers.
Everyone immediately quieted down and started to focus on their work. Diya tried very hard to hide from him but to no avail.
"Miss. Diya. Come to my office.". Diya slapped her forehead in frustration. 'Here comes my end.'
She knocked on the door and went in cautiously after hearing the affirmation from inside. "Yes, sir?". "There's a meet-up at BJ Club tonight. The sponsors of our kindergarten are going to be there. Your presence is required. This is the list of the guests," Rowan said; handing over a piece of paper.
Diya couldn't object as it was work-related. "Okay, sir.". "Be there by 8 pm. That's it. You may go." even though Diya was confused about his not-so-normal behavior, she came out of his office quickly. 'Is he changed for good?' Diya wondered.
Rowan picked up his phone and dialed someone. "It's me. Yes, she's coming. Prepare everything perfectly. I don't want anything to go wrong.".
'Let's see how you're going to escape from me this time.'
