Chapter 21 - 21 Assumptions

Alex's thoughts are like scrambled eggs. Her mind echoed with Alexander's voice.

"Father...Father...Father..."

She stole a glance at Alexander and turned to look at the fleeing car. She calmed herself and took a deep breath. Her fingers went in her chin involuntarily as if she is contemplating something. She was not entirely sure with her theory but she would get to the bottom of it.

Alexander glanced at Alex who was in deep thought.

"Who could have known that you really have a cute face when thinking." He thought. His eyes are now filled with warmth and had the urge to kiss her right here and right now but he restrained himself. He decided to call her attention.

"Alex..."

She did not respond. Alex heard his voice but she did not pay attention to it. Seeing that she did not respond, he called her again.

"Alex..."

She heard him again but she wanted to think at that moment. Her mind did not pay attention as if she ignored him entirely. Seeing that she did not react for the second time, he walked towards her, lifted his hand and pats her shoulder. His steps were quiet like a cat doing a runway show.

She jolted quickly as if she was touched by a ghost. She did not expect his sudden movement will wake her up.

She blurted, "What is it?"

His eyes worriedly looked into hers. She felt her pulse rising and her hands shaking as if she had a paranormal experience. She looked like she was caught doing wrong.

"What's wrong?" Alexander asked her. His voice full of worry.

She turned at him and looked at him directly in his eyes. Her eyes had a hint of mystery as if it was really new to him. She never show these eyes of hers to anyone. She slowly calmed down and sighed.

"Well, I did not know you have that close relationship with Charles's father. I did not know you call him that." Alex casually said.

His eyes looked surprised. He did not expect her to know such detail but he was careless this time.

"Usually, Charles only calls him like that." Alex added.

His eyes turned gloomy all of a sudden. He wanted to tell her the truth but he does not know how. He does not want to hurt her now that she is in his reach. This was his only chance to be with her. He could not let this go away. He straighted himself and with his apologetic smile, he realized that if she could put pieces together, she would know who he really was.

He suddenly puts his hands on her shoulders. He looked straight in her eyes and said, " You could say that I have amicable terms with them when they got engage a year ago. Tom and Andrea considered me part of their family since then." He confidently said.

She stared at his eyes. She looked at them and felt his response genuine. She closed her eyes and turned around to think. She puts her index finger on her chin and puts her arm above her stomach to support her other arm.

"Did I answer your questions, detective?" He withdraws his hands from her and puts it in his pockets. He even raised an eyebrow at her.

She looked at him like she did not believe him. You can't blame a woman whose instincts are hype. She crossed her arms at him and released a pleased sigh.

"If that's what you say sherlock, then I wont bother with it anymore." She faked a smile and turned around.

"As if I believe that. Give me a chance to know who this guy is..." She thought.

He smiled helplessly and sighed.

"Ok...Let's go home already. I dont want to be late..." Alex trailed off when she did not hear anyone following her. She turned around and did not expect to see someone. Her heart clenched at the sight she saw.

At Lea's Apartment...

Jasmine's heart was about to jump out of her throat when Lea started walking towards the door. She stood up in lightning speed and left the center isle as if her life depended on it. Her heart is pounding and her breathing unsteady. Her whole body trembled with fear and anxiety. Her hands are sweaty and she can see her hands shaking. As Lea approached the door, she had not noticed Jasmine beside her. She was startled by a shadow that past at a blink of an eye. She did not expect her friend to be in front of her. She looked at Jasmine surprisingly and stopped walking.

She stood 5 feet away from the door when Jasmine took a deep breath and said, "I'll get the door."

Her cold but husky voice was heard when Lea raised her brow in curiosity. Lea did not expect her friend to act like this in front of her. She was dumbfounded on why would her friend react that way. She could not think of any excuse at that matter on why Jasmine wants to open the door. She was concerned and worried for her friend. She was really confused at the situation she is looking at right now.

Jasmine lets out a sigh of relief while Lea just stared at her in a daze. Her heart beat erratic with every step she takes towards the door while her hands approach the door knob. Her hand shook when she touched the cold metal knob. A sweat streamed from her forehead. Her body could not hide the nervousness while she was breathing rapidly. She stood still until she inhaled deeply.

There was a screaming silence.

Only their breaths can be heard and another knock was heard.

Jasmine's breathing hitched while Lea was abruptly woke from her senses.

"Just a minute!!" Lea replied.

Jasmine's heart raced when she slowly turned the knob. The knob was unlocked and she slowly turned to open the door. The door suddenly creaked open when Lea approached her back and whispered at her ear.

"The door wont open unless you move your hand and open it." She teased her.

Jasmine's hand relaxed and she giggled.

"Yeah, right." Jasmine replied.

She rolled her eyes when she felt brave enough to open the door.

Jasmine slowly opened the door and peaked when she saw a man's face looking at his watch, patiently waiting while whistling. She did not recognize the man waiting and she suddenly opened the door full swing. The man's frame registered in her line of sight and she was blown away by his looks. She felt flowers were thrown at her like she wanted it and the scent of summer flowers waft in her nose. She can hear the song flower duet by Lakme playing in her head. He looked clean like his face was recently shaved. His eyes were so blue like the ocean. His nose was sculpted beautifully by an artist and his lips are pursed red in a thin line. His hair is golden blonde and styled accordingly to his oval shaped face. He is fair and tall too. She was blown away by his looks.

"Oh so handsome..." Jasmine blurted out and almost drooled over him.

"Uh, hi?" The man smiled at her.

His smile hits her like rays of the sun.

She stood there in a daze when Lea sneaks behind her and puts her hand on her shoulder. She saw the man at her door. She looked at the man Jasmine was staring at when she recognize him as her mysterious neighbor.

"Uhm, Good morning..."

The guy smiled at Jasmine and stared at Lea when his mouth opened.

"Ah, My name is Ray and I am here to return something." Ray said.

His voice was so cool that anyone hearing it feels drawn to him deep.

"Oh...Uhm...sure." Lea replied.

She stared at him when his arm extended and he handed her a newspaper with her name, Lea Apartment B, on it.

"Oh my...!! I am so sorry. I forgot to get mine when I dropped it on your doorstep." Lea replied.

"Well, you don't have to. Mornings are really procrastinating. I, too, once drank orange juice thinking it was coffee." Ray laughs.

Both women giggled.

"Ah, yes. I, too, thought I was dreaming but it was reality. Geez." Jasmine snorted.

Ray laughs and looks at Jasmine intently.

"Then we have something in common." Ray adds.

Jasmine's eyes glittered while Ray's stayed glued at Jasmine's.

Lea was now curious when her lips lifted into a smirk. She puts her hand on her hips while she looks at both of them.

"Well, I dont want to intrude but we better get our breakfast ready." Lea frankly said smiling.

"Why dont you come and eat breakfast with us?" Jasmine suggested.

Lea looked at her intently and her eyes widened.

Ray looked at his watch and sighed. He lifts his arm and touched his nape dejected.

"Uhm, I have something to do but next time will do. See you ladies some other time."

"Sure, no worries. Thanks for stopping by." Jasmine feeling rejected. Lea feels sorry for her but hugs her tightly.

"Hey, are you alright?" Lea asked her worriedly.

"Of course, why would I not? He's just a guy." Jasmine reassures her.

"Just a guy? Are you sure about that? Last time that this happened..." Lea trailed off when she heard Jasmine sighed.

"Yeah, I know but there are a lot of fishes in the see, right?" Jasmine beamed to her.

"Of course, but choose wisely too." Lea added.

Both women stared at each other and laughed when suddenly, a rumbling stomach was heard.

"Well someone is really hungry. If that's the case, we should go inside and eat." Lea heartily laughed.

"Yes please!!" Jasmine blushed and haughtily went inside.

Lea followed after when she heard her phone rang.

"Who could be calling me?" Lea approached her side table when she saw the caller ID's name flashed on her screen.

Her face blushed and Jasmine noticed her taking her phone.

"Are we busy today?" Jasmine sneers.

Lea just stared at her phone. She was contemplating whether she will answer it or not. Her heart raced and her hand trembled. Jasmine looked at her worriedly.

"Are you not going to answer it?" Jasmine asked.

Lea's eyes did not flinched when she swiped her phone.
