She felt her heart unsteadily beating when she heard his voice again.
"I loved you." Charles finally said. He looked at her affectionately. Her eyes widened in disbelief. She looked at him like he was joking.
"I could not bring this up when you left B City. I'm sorry if I have caused you pain and suffering because I was so afraid."
She felt ice poured on her. She felt numb.
"I was afraid of you rejecting me. I was so scared that I put you through such great deal of misery not knowing how I felt for you." His face grimaced, as if he was opening his heart and knowing he can't be hers. He was aware that he chose someone else and he was now deeply in love with that person. He moved on too.
"I just want this all out in my chest. I hope that this will end your suffering and pain that I caused you for 2 years."
She just looked at him and a smile starting to form in her face.
"I am so happy that you said that. Are you saying this because you know how I felt for you?" Alex bravely asked. She gulped so many times she felt thirsty. Luckily, she brought her bottle of water with her. She drank the contents in one go.
Charles saw how Alex drank her bottle of water. He knew she was nervous. He smiled at her and said, "I know what you are feeling right now and I want you to know that I moved on. I loved you and now, I chose to be with somebody else. I do hope that you find someone too. I'm sorry."
She pulled herself together and looked at him. She felt free for the first time and yet she was still hurt knowing that he loved her but moved on and found another.
"Did you know that..." She paused and stared at his eyes.
"I loved you, too?" She continued.
Charles was shocked at the moment he heard her. Such revelation held his breath. He was now in an emotional turmoil. He suddenly felt his heart ache.
"It's too late now..." he whispered to himself. His eyes darkened.
"I am now happy with somebody. I am deeply in love with her." Charles blurted out but his feelings were opposite. He still loves her. He wanted to end it all but now that he learned about her affections, his unrequited love now comes to haunt him. He is now losing his sense of rationality.
His words cut through her like a knife that stabbed her in her heart. A stretch of lightning seen in the sky then the thunder was heard. She looked at him in despair. The skies darkened, the waves roared and the winds blew strong. A storm was brewing.
He looked away at Alex's direction. He stood up and said. "I'm sorry but I can't stay here any longer. I wished you all the best and thank you for coming in my wedding." He left her in the docks.
She stared at Charles's sillouette disappearing in the dark. She stayed glue to her seat when she felt raindrops falling. She looked up and saw the storm coming fast. She did not move and she was engulfed by her sadness. She did not held hear tears and they flowed on her face. The rain started to drop and she heard the faint tip tops in the wooden floors of the dock. She started to sob and cried her heart out.
"Why is it so hard to let you go. Why did I have to love you and witness your happiness. It's so painful..." She shouted knowing no one is around. She suddenly went at the edge of the dock and screamed, "Why is loving you a mistake?" Tears soon started to flow hard on the floor. Her tears blown away by the wind as the waves crash on the dock. The rain started to pour heavily. She was now drenched in the rain. She wailed like a banshee through the storm. It was too much to take in. She really thought she had moved on. She also thought that Charles knew her affections since she profess her love for him with Monique and he was there witnessing them fighting for his affections. Why does he not know my affections? She was exhausted and kneeled on the floor. Feeling rejection all over again was too much to bear. Her sobs grew louder as the lightning stretched in the dark clouds. She wailed while the thunder roared. She stood up on her feet, walked away slowly and stared at the bench where they were "catching up".
Rain still pouring when she reached the nearest hut in the resort. The resort's restaurant had a party by the veranda and the music was so loud, she can see people dancing to the song, "In the name of Love" by Bebe Rexha and Martin Garrix. Rain poured heavily and she felt cold and numb. She stared at the sea hoping to calm her down but her emotions are in a turmoil. She stayed there for the meantime when she heard her phone ring. She checked her phone as rain droplets started to fill the screen. She saw that there were 6 missed calls and 8 messages.
In the room...
Alexander got worried when it was 11:30 pm. She was still not back and called her but she did not pick up. He sent her a message.
"Where are you? Please call back when you see my message."
After 10 minutes had passes, he dialled her number again. There was no answer. He dialled 2 more times but he sensed there was a problem. He started to panic and took his coat and phone with him. He sent a message again.
"I will come and get you."
He got so worried he sent another message.
"I will look for you because I care."
He took the keys and left the room. He search for them in every corner of the resort except on the docks. He was about to reach the docks when he saw a sillouette of a man approaching. He hid in one of the huts and saw Charles's darkened face. He sneaked a glance at the opposite direction and saw Alex seating on a bench. He noticed the raindrops started to fall. When he saw Charles far enough not to notice him, he went to look for Alex but he witnessed her pain. He saw Alex's figure went to the docks and said,
"Why is it so hard to let you go..."
"Why did I have to love you and witness your happiness..."
His face darkened.
"It's so painful..."
"Why is loving you a mistake?"
He felt pity for her. He saw her wailed her pain with the rain. His heart ached even more. He can't watch her so hurt, in pain and in despair. He was frustrated as he witness his love screamed her heart out in the storm. His body panicked and rushed to be on her side. He was stunned when he saw her figure kneeling on the floor and as she stood up, he alerted himself and carefully walked towards her. He saw her checking her phone and staring directly at the screen. His eyes reflected the light and when she turned around, she saw his eyes glowing. She screamed until her lungs bursts.
"Aaaaahhhh!"
"Alex..."
She heard a familiar voice. She took her cellphone and turned on the flashlight to see who was staring at her.
"Oh, Alexander..."
Her voice was hoarse from all the crying, screaming and wailing. Her eyes was bulging and red. She looked tired and exhausted from expressing her emotions. The rain is still pouring and Alexander removed his coat, he put the coat on Alex and hugged her, shielding her from the rain. She heard his heart beating and suddenly he whispered in her ears.
"I will never hurt you and I will never let you suffer."
She looked at his eyes and his on hers. There was warmth in his eyes. She felt secured and for once, she felt loved.
"In the name of Love...name of Love..."
He leaned on her and said,
"I promise I will be here by your side. Always."
"In the name of Love...name of Love..."
She closed her eyes and heavily breath when she felt his lips on her forehead.
"In the name of...."
Her hand slipped through his nape, pulling him into her embrace. He hugged her tight.
The rain poured heavily on them and the scene changed from heavy sadness to glowing warmth.
All of a sudden, his arms held her waist. She looked at him and smiled.
