Ye Jian went to bed quite early last night, around nine, but Li Jinnian did not return to Dan Gui Garden within the four to five minutes as Xia Jinyuan had said. Instead, he didn't come home until nearly midnight.
What he did during those few hours remained a mystery.
Ye Jian gave Li Jinnian, who had returned in the middle of the night, a penetrating look and then revealed a smile full of implied understanding, as if she had figured it all out. Li Jinnian, closing the door behind him, nodded his chin towards the stairwell with reserved pride, signaling that if there was anything to discuss, they should talk outside.
Ye Jian happily complied, curious to see what her older brother, returning home so late, had to say.
But as it turned out, even after a morning run, she didn't get to hear Li Jinnian speak about anything!
