Everyone watching almost holds their breath as they watch the grenade launch itself towards the direction where the hurler is currently standing. Everyone knows that one wrong move from that stunt the two made earlier could cost them their lives, but they still did it just to ensure the main threat is gone for good, and even then, the grenades are not even a surefire tactic that would be enough to kill the zombies and the main source of their current problem.
Seconds felt like hours for everyone watching, and the wait for the explosion felt like a wait for eternity for some reason. Kyosei, on the other hand, is silently counting down as he sees the grenade bounce from the Hurler a few times.
"3, 2, 1."
BOOOM!
Even though they are at a distance, the grenade explosion was loud, and the other window glass near the explosion was shattered in the process. The glass shards spread everywhere in the process, while the zombies caught in the blast have been ragdolled to the surrounding areas, destroying their limbs in the process and clearing the place that was once crowded by them.
The Hurler had its upper half shattered and riddled with holes. In short, the Hurler died from the explosion. However, that is not the shocking thing that happened because after the Hurler died, the zombies that were busy trying to climb up the building suddenly ignored their first objective, and switched their attention to the area where the grenade exploded. As soon as they did, they started sprinting towards the remains of the shattered Hurler and the other zombies caught in the blast and started to eat them. Each and every zombie is trying their best to eat the remains of the dead like they are on a buffet.
"Holy sh*t...this is cannibalism on its finest...I never expected to see it on zombies like these..." Chie said while also scribbling on her notes while also not leaving her eyes off the scene.
Cindy fell to her knees as her nervousness reached its peak. The others also sighed in relief, seeing that the Hurler is gone for good. However, Kyosei shook his head.
"We shouldn't let our guard down. The night is still long, and who knows if that was the only Hurler present. There might be more, considering there are more baseball players here in our school. There is a chance that all of them have become Hurlers."
Souichi nodded. "I agree with Kyosei here. With how that caught us off guard, there is no telling what might cause more trouble for us soon. I suggest we increase the people on night watch while the others rest for the time being. We have a long day tomorrow, and we need to escape the school before we get surrounded by every zombie all over the place."
Everyone agrees. This time around, Kyosei decided to go to sleep and have Souichi take over, which the latter agreed to without hesitation, considering he had already rested. Chie also volunteered to do the night watch as she wanted to observe the cannibalistic trait the zombies exhibit earlier, and Mr. Leo continued to go for the night watch as he wanted to see if there were any scrap items he could actually use as something we could cover the big hole in our defense.
Although the night was still tense and dangerous, there were no further dangers that had happened so far, and no more hurlers that came afterwards. It wasn't a short night, but it wasn't a long one either.

Day: 2
Location: Kirishima High - Clocktower top floor
Time: 5:30 A.M
Remaining time before Sunrise: 30 minutes left
Kyosei slowly opened his eyes and looked around. The majority of his companions are still asleep. Mr. Leo has managed to make a makeshift barrier on the big hole by using one of the plywood sheets he found in the storage room and patched it over the hole. It wasn't an effective patching process, but it is enough to "seal" the hole.
Chie has already fallen asleep sitting while her hands are still holding the pen and her notebook. On the other hand, Souichi is currently boiling water with Miyuki and Sena helping him. On the corner is Nanami, currently tinkering with her laptop, typing fast enough that he thought she was playing something keyboard-intensive.
"Oh, morning Kyosei. Have you slept well?" Miyuki asked, looking cheerful.
"So-so. Not too bad, but not great either," Kyosei stretches his arms as he grabs his weapon and checks the windows.
"You woke up quite early, Kyosei. You could have slept more, considering you did most of the work yesterday," Mr. Leo said as he finished the "patching" process.
"I am an early riser most of the time, so waking up at five is already the latest time I have woken up. Anyway, did anything happen last night that I am not aware of?"
"So far, no. The zombies have gotten louder around midnight, but nothing too dangerous that would top the Hurler situation. Still, our situation is the same, and I don't see any signs of rescue aside from the occasional helicopters flying overhead. I bet those are the SDFs currently responding to the busiest areas of Japan," Mr. Leo wipes off his sweat the moment he finishes his business.
"Does that mean we are not going to be rescued anytime soon?" Sena asked, remorseful.
"Don't think so. If this phenomenon is actually hitting the whole of Japan right now, then rescuing people like us is not a priority for the government at all. They would be more focused on executing protocols of lockdown and perhaps making quarantine zone while also defending those places against zombie attacks. Best I can say is that we are on our own now," Mr. Leo said without even sugarcoating it.
Then, Nanami who was currently typing vigorously on her laptop, chimed in on the conversation.
"I think that was currently what was happening right now. Many government officials and their families have been evacuated and prioritized to be rescued, and now currently being defended by the SDF in Tokyo, where they have built a makeshift wall to keep the zombies at bay. They built this wall around the Azabudai Hills and are currently accepting a limited number of people to quarantine. It seems they converted the place as the only place to keep people safe from harm at the moment."
"Considering Azabudai Hills is a big skyscraper and also a residential building, I didn't expect they would use that as a quarantine zone," Souichi comments with a nod.
"What about here in Osaka, Minami? Are there any quarantine zones we can go to?" Miyuki asked.
"Yes. It seems they used Abeno Harukas here in Osaka."
"Abeno Harukas...that is a bit far from here. We would need to traverse the Shinsaibashi district and Nipponbashi to get a little bit near there, then we would have to pass Chausuyama Mountain to reach Sanno and Asahimachi before we reach Abenosuji just to get there. That would take us months, depending on what we use for transportation and the state of the roads. By the time we reach there, the quarantine might already be over, and they might have abandoned the place, depending on the situation," Mr. Leo shook his head.
"Oh no...we will not be able to reach there in a short period of time. And we haven't even calculated the time we would be spending just to check if our families made it out of this hell," Sena's tears started to fall, which Souichi quickly wipes and hugs her.
Kyosei shook his head and sighed. Enough of the drama for now. We should worry about ourselves first and how we should get out of here. I know we are currently safe here at the moment, but considering those mutated zombies appearing, there is no telling when we will meet another variant of them, and the next problem we will have in the future is food. We can't just stay here and rely on the cafeteria forever, as that place has limited food and water. In maybe just a week or two, depending on how much we reduce our food consumption, we will run out of them. Then, our weapons. As everyone knows, we will not be able to find much luck in finding firearms soon enough. Perhaps we can luck out on a few, but what about our current situation? We won't last long if we just rely on our current weapons. We will need guns to fend for ourselves. And last but not the least, we need a vehicle. And I think we should prioritize that one first," Kyosei said with quick suggestions.
Mr. Leo nodded in agreement. "Yes, a vehicle. In fact, we can start securing one right now, and this vehicle should be perfect for our group."
"Wait, perhaps you're talking about the school bus?" Miyuki's eyes widen.
"Indeed. I think we should use that as our priority for today. We need to secure the key for the school bus," Mr. Leo said, solidifying their first goal, to escape the school.
