Hunter X Hunter: Ten more pulls
Mori Kaito spent his life chasing three seconds.
Not the win. Not the loss. The three seconds between — when the pull is committed and the result hasn't arrived yet. The only moment where everything is still possible.
He died at 26, broke, indebted, and pulling a limited banner at 1 AM. He got the five-star. He also got a desk corner to the skull.
He woke up as a newborn on Whale Island, in the world of Hunter × Hunter.
He knows the story. He knows Gon, Killua, Kurapika. He knows about the Phantom Troupe, the Chimera Ants, the things this world does to exceptional people who aren't careful enough. He knows who survives and who doesn't, and exactly how much the ones who don't will hurt.
His cheat is a Status Panel — a system that reads any person, animal, or object as a trait profile ranked from Common to Legendary. It lets him see what people are made of before they know he's looking.
It also gives him two exchange mechanics:
One safe pull per day — guaranteed same tier or better.
Ten risk pulls per day — 35% upgrade. 30% same. 35% downgrade.
The system does not offer refunds. The system does not offer second chances. The system does not care.
His Nen ability, when it finally awakens, is called The Odds — a Specialist-type power that lets him wager portions of his own aura on specific outcomes, bending probability in his favor. The bigger the bet, the bigger the shift. But the house always takes its cut. A lost bet means permanently burned aura. And every time he uses it, it feeds the same loop that ate his first life whole.
He's not a hero. He's not the protagonist — he checked, and the protagonist's panel has two Legendary traits including one literally called Protagonist's Fortune. He's a side character with a gambling addiction, a system that tempts him daily, and enough meta-knowledge to be dangerous if he doesn't get himself killed first.
His goals, in order: survive, become strong enough to be useful, make money, and eventually gamble again.
He's working on the self-awareness. Slowly. With setbacks.
This is not a power fantasy. The addiction is real and the cost is real.
The house always wins.
He sits down anyway.
That's the only kind of faith he's ever had.
