An archmage at the peak of his power attempts the 10th circle — not survival, not duty, but the final rung toward godhood. The ritual answers him, just not the way he wanted: it strips him down to nothing and drops him into a newborn body in a world that has never heard of mana or circles. He is Naruto Uzumaki, and the only thing he kept from his old life is the memory of everything he used to be able to do.
That gap — remembering omnipotence while possessing none of it — is the engine of the story. His magic isn't dormant, waiting to be switched back on; it's gone, and what he has instead is a complete theoretical map of magic with no working power source to run it on. Chakra is the only energy this world offers, and chakra was never built to carry 10th-circle spellwork. So he spends his childhood doing something his old self never had to: rebuilding from zero, translating theory into a foreign system one broken experiment at a time.
The ambition doesn't disappear either — it's worth deciding whether it curdles into something he's ashamed of, or whether it quietly survives and starts driving him again once he has power worth chasing with. Because he's hiding what he is completely, the story also runs on a live fuse: every technique he invents has to look plausibly like ninjutsu/fuinjutsu to Jiraiya, to Kakashi, to anyone watching closely, or the secret cracks.
