This isn't an ordinary strategy game—no matter how advanced the computer AI is, it has its limitations. You can't hide in your own castle, focus on farming and building your army, and then sweep through the AI effortlessly.
There is a hand of God. It appears whenever you think you've prepared thoroughly enough to increase your chances of success, and its interference ensures that you'll never achieve a perfect readiness to face any situation in the story world.
And so, even during rest, it was merely two days—if you count the day they escaped, it was really only a day and a half. They dragged the slightly recovered old man back with them, returning to the very house the old man had previously lived in.
