On January 23, 1923, American Osborn and Chinese Zeng Jun founded the China Wireless Radio Company, which broadcasted radio programs in Shanghai for the first time through its own station and also sold radios.
Over 500 radios in the city received the station's broadcasts, marking the earliest batch of radios in Shanghai and a first for the country. Subsequently, as more radio stations were established, radios began to rise in popularity in Shanghai, all imported goods, with the majority being American-made. There were two types: crystal set radios and tube radios, with crystal sets being more favored by citizens.
