Aboard Battleship [Oscar], Captain Hoffman felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body. He stared blankly out the porthole at the enemy ships moving out of interception range, unable to believe it was all real.
Outside, occasional energy cannon light streaked across the void. Not far off the starboard side, Battleship [Mermaid] was riddled with holes. The majestic bow had a large gaping hole, the right wing was completely broken, and even the bridge was missing a significant chunk.
Hoffman felt relieved for the beautiful ship captain Claudia… if not for the miraculous appearance of Space Fighters at the enemy flagship's flank, even with Oscar's cover, [Mermaid] wouldn't have survived the next round of attacks.
