Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The First GDI Naval Fleet

Belfast entered the room in silence, closing the door behind her with practiced care. The Commander's quarters were far more spacious than their exterior suggested, a subtle example of the technology that defined this place. The layout was efficient yet refined, every surface clean, every system integrated seamlessly into the environment. It was unmistakably his—functional, advanced, but not without a quiet sense of comfort.

Her eyes moved across the room, taking in the details. The bed alone was large enough to accommodate more than one person comfortably, positioned at the center with deliberate simplicity. Even the ambient lighting responded subtly to her presence, dimming and adjusting as if aware.

Then her gaze settled on him.

Yuuki was still asleep.

For once, there was no tension in his expression. No command decisions, no battlefield weight—just quiet, unguarded rest. It was a rare sight, and one she found herself pausing to observe.

Belfast stepped closer, her movements light, almost soundless. She stood beside the bed and watched him for a moment longer, the faintest smile touching her lips.

This was the man who had called to her.

The one who had reached across that void and brought her back.

In the past, her role had always been assigned. As the Queen's maid, she served the commander because it was her duty. It was expected of her, defined by her position within the Royal Navy.

But this—

This was different.

She had chosen this.

Chosen him.

Her gaze softened slightly, though her composure never truly left her.

She understood what was coming. More shipgirls would arrive. More alliances, more bonds, more… competition. Each of them would have their own place, their own connection to him.

And Yuuki himself—

Would try to be fair to all of them.

Belfast lowered her eyes briefly, then let out a quiet breath.

"I apologize, dear ladies…" she murmured to herself, voice soft but steady. "Even a maid has her own pride."

Her fingers rested lightly against the edge of the bed.

"While Master may treat everyone equally, and none of you will hold back…"

Her expression sharpened just slightly.

"…neither will I."

It wasn't hostility.

It wasn't jealousy.

It was resolve.

Belfast straightened, returning fully to her role.

Then, with gentle precision, she reached out.

Her hand hovered for a moment before she spoke, her voice calm and composed once more.

"Master, it is morning."

Yuuki's eyes snapped open.

"Ah—!" He jolted upright, nearly tangling himself in the sheets as he stared at the figure standing calmly at the side of his bed. "How did you get in here?"

Belfast didn't flinch.

"You provided me with a keycard, Master. I am merely fulfilling my duties."

Yuuki dragged a hand down his face, still half-asleep.

"…Bel, it's six in the morning," he groaned. "Can I sleep in?"

"No," she replied without hesitation. "Please prepare yourself. Everyone is waiting."

Her tone wasn't harsh, but it left no room for negotiation.

Yuuki blinked at her, processing that.

"…I'm starting to question whether accepting a personal maid was a good decision."

Belfast inclined her head slightly.

"Regret is inefficient, Master. I will be with you whether you liked it or not."

"…I am not sure how to react to that."

He let out a long sigh, dropping back onto the pillow for half a second before forcing himself up again.

"Wait… everyone?" he asked, squinting at her.

"Yes," Belfast answered. "They are currently gathered in your dining area. Lady Yorktown, Lady Illustrious, Lady Laffey… and as of this morning, Lady Atago and Lady Takao as well."

Yuuki froze.

"…They're all… in my dining room?"

"Correct."

"…Waiting?"

"Yes."

Yuuki stared at the ceiling for a moment, as if reconsidering all his life choices.

"Oh, come on… Bel…"

Belfast remained unmoved.

"Master."

Another sigh followed, longer this time, but without resistance.

"…Fine. Give me a few minutes," he muttered, already getting out of bed. "I'll shower and get myself presentable."

Belfast stepped aside smoothly.

"I will ensure everything is prepared for your arrival."

As Yuuki made his way toward the bathroom, he muttered under his breath—

"…This is how it starts. No more sleeping in ever again."

Behind him, Belfast allowed herself the faintest hint of satisfaction before returning to her duties.

===========

Belfast waited just outside his quarters, posture composed, hands folded neatly in front of her. She had already returned to her usual standard—uniform restored, hair immaculate, every detail in place as if the events of yesterday had never left a mark.

The door opened.

Yuuki stepped out.

For a brief moment—

Belfast forgot to speak.

This was different.

What he wore now was not the casual attire she had seen before. Beneath the long white coat, an armored frame fit seamlessly against his form, its design both protective and refined. The cape draped over his right shoulder added a commanding presence, giving him the unmistakable bearing of someone who stood at the head of something far greater than himself.

He didn't just look prepared.

He looked like a commander.

Yuuki noticed her reaction immediately.

"Well?" he asked, turning slightly. "How do I look?"

Belfast opened her mouth, then paused—something rare for her.

"I…" She caught herself, a faint blush coloring her cheeks before she straightened. "It suits you very well, Master. You look… entirely fitting for the commander of such a powerful faction."

Yuuki smiled lightly.

"I'll take that."

He adjusted his coat slightly, then glanced ahead.

"Alright. Everything's set. Shall we?"

"Yes," Belfast replied, regaining her usual composure. "I have taken the liberty of preparing breakfast."

Yuuki raised a brow.

"That's kind of you. I usually just have my drones handle it."

Belfast's expression shifted, just slightly.

"Master," she said, tone firm but controlled, "please refrain from assigning such tasks to drones unnecessarily."

Yuuki let out a small chuckle.

"No promises. But I'll avoid it when you're around."

Belfast met his gaze directly.

"Then I will ensure that I am always present."

Yuuki blinked.

"…Bel."

"Yes, Master?"

"Cut me some slack."

A faint, almost playful softness touched her expression.

"I will consider it."

Which, to Yuuki, sounded suspiciously like a refusal.

Still—

He didn't argue.

And together—

They walked toward the dining area, where the others were already waiting.

When Yuuki stepped into the dining room, the shift in atmosphere was immediate.

The girls had already gathered, seated around the table Belfast had prepared, the morning light filtering softly through the windows. Conversation lingered in the air—quiet, comfortable—until they turned toward the entrance.

And saw him.

For a moment, no one spoke.

He was usually relaxed, almost careless in how he carried himself, but this version of him was different. The formal uniform, the armored frame beneath the coat, the cape resting along his shoulder—it all gave him a presence that was difficult to ignore.

Illustrious was the first to react, her smile faltering just slightly as a faint blush touched her cheeks.

"…Goodness," she murmured, clearly amused and caught off guard at the same time. "Commander, you clean up remarkably well."

Yorktown didn't say anything at first, but her eyes lingered a second longer than usual before she looked away, crossing her arms lightly.

"…You look the part," she said, her tone composed, though not entirely unaffected.

Even Belfast, standing just behind him, allowed herself the smallest hint of satisfaction.

Yuuki noticed all of it.

And sighed.

"…It's just a uniform," he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck as he walked in.

It had only been two days since the incident with Atago and Takao, but already his quarters had turned into something of a gathering place. The girls seemed to prefer being here rather than anywhere else on the base.

Not that he minded.

It was… better than being surrounded by drones.

"Morning, everyone," he said, taking his usual seat.

"Good morning, Commander," Yorktown replied.

Illustrious followed with a soft, "Good morning."

And then—

Laffey.

Without a word, she stood, walked over, and climbed straight onto his lap as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"…Hey—"

"…warm," she mumbled, already settling in.

Yuuki looked down at her, then up at the others.

"…She didn't even hesitate this time."

Yorktown exhaled softly, clearly used to it.

"She's decided that's her spot."

Illustrious giggled lightly.

"I suppose you've been claimed."

Yuuki leaned back slightly, careful not to disturb Laffey as she began drifting off again.

"…Yeah. Seems that way."

Despite himself—

He didn't move her.

Two figures approached from his side, their footsteps measured and synchronized.

Atago and Takao.

Both now fully restored.

Their presence alone carried weight—poise, discipline, and the unmistakable bearing of seasoned warships given form. Their uniforms had been perfectly reconstructed, pristine and fitted as if untouched by the destruction they had endured. The only absence was their swords, a detail subtle yet noticeable to those who understood what it meant.

They stopped before him.

And bowed.

"Good morning, Shikikan-sama."

Their voices overlapped in perfect unison.

Yuuki glanced at them, then gave a small nod.

"Oh. You two."

There was no dismissiveness in his tone—just familiarity, as if he had already accepted their presence as part of his world.

Atago straightened first, her expression brightening immediately.

"Yes, fully rested and in proper condition," she said with a warm smile. "We can finally introduce ourselves as we should."

She placed a hand lightly against her chest.

"I am Atago, second ship of the Takao-class heavy cruisers and flagship of the Second Fleet. Many of my sisters have followed my banner into battle."

Her tone shifted—lighter, almost playful.

"No matter the mission… you may leave everything to your big sister here~"

Yuuki raised a brow slightly.

"…Big sister?"

Atago's smile deepened, her confidence completely natural.

"Ufufu… please allow your big sister Atago to take good care of you from now on."

Yuuki leaned back slightly, a faintly amused expression crossing his face.

"…Haa…"

Beside her, Takao let out a quiet sigh.

"Atago-nee…"

She stepped forward, her posture straight, her tone far more formal.

"Good day, Shikikan-sama. I am Takao, first ship of the Takao-class heavy cruisers."

Her gaze met his directly.

"I have crossed countless battlefields. Though my appearance may not reflect it, I ask that you place your trust in my firepower and armor."

She lowered her head slightly.

"I must also apologize… for the state in which you found me two days ago. It was… disgraceful."

Yuuki's expression shifted, just a little more serious now.

"Please allow this lowly Takao," she continued, "to offer what strength she has in your service."

There was no hesitation in her words.

Only resolve.

Yuuki regarded both of them for a moment.

Then—

He nodded.

"The honor is mine, Atago. Takao."

His tone carried quiet authority.

"Welcome to the Global Defense Initiative."

He leaned back slightly, one arm resting as Laffey continued sleeping on his lap without a care in the world.

"We're not a faction of this world," he continued. "But we stand firm in defending what we believe in—our people, our principles, and our future."

His gaze moved between them.

"If you choose to stand with us…"

A brief pause.

"Then carry the crest of GDI with pride."

"And protect its interests… as your own."

The words settled in the room.

Atago's smile softened, now carrying a deeper meaning.

Takao straightened slightly, her resolve sharpening.

And just like that—

They were no longer guests.

They were part of something new.

Yuuki's attention shifted mid-conversation.

It wasn't subtle.

His gaze lingered just a second too long, focused—not on their posture, not on their uniforms—but something else entirely.

Belfast noticed immediately.

"Master," she said calmly, though with a faint edge, "it is considered impolite to stare."

Yuuki blinked, snapping out of it.

"Oh—sorry. I've just been curious for the past two days."

Atago tilted her head slightly, a soft smile forming as a faint blush touched her cheeks.

"Ara… is there something about us that has caught your interest, Shikikan-sama?"

Yuuki hesitated for half a second, then decided not to dance around it.

"…Your ears," he admitted, pointing slightly. "And the tail."

Atago's wolf ears twitched in response, as if reacting to the attention itself.

"Those," Yuuki continued, leaning forward just a little, "are they real… or some kind of cosmetic feature?"

Atago let out a soft, amused laugh.

"They are quite real, Shikikan-sama."

Her tail swayed lightly behind her, the movement natural, unforced.

"They are part of us—our nature as Sakura Empire shipgirls."

Takao nodded, more composed as always.

"Our manifestations reflect the spirit and identity we embody. It is not merely appearance. It is… intrinsic."

Yuuki leaned back slightly, processing that.

"So it's not just aesthetic. It's biological… integrated into your form."

His expression shifted into something more analytical.

"…That's actually incredible."

He rubbed his chin slightly, already thinking ahead.

"If the research teams upstairs saw this, they'd lose their minds. You'd probably have a thousand questions thrown at you within five minutes."

Atago smiled, clearly entertained.

"I can imagine."

Yuuki's eyes drifted back again, curiosity still not fully satisfied.

"…Still…"

He hesitated.

"…Do you mind if I…?"

Atago's ears perked slightly.

"Do you wish to feel them, Shikikan?"

Yuuki froze.

"…No—"

A beat.

"…Yes."

Another pause.

"…I mean—if you don't mind."

Yorktown let out a long, tired sigh from the side.

"Commander…"

Yuuki raised his hands slightly in defense.

"Hey, I'm just curious. You don't see this kind of thing where I come from."

He gestured lightly toward Atago.

"Girls with fully integrated animal traits, stable biology, no visible artificial augmentation… that's not normal in my world."

He scratched his cheek, a bit more self-aware now.

"So yeah… it makes me a little curious."

Atago stepped a little closer, her expression warm and teasing.

"Curiosity is not a bad thing, Shikikan-sama."

Her tail swayed gently.

"Especially when it comes to understanding your own fleet."

Takao glanced at her sister, then back at Yuuki, clearly less amused but not opposed.

"…As long as it remains respectful."

Belfast watched closely, arms folded lightly.

"Master," she added, tone measured, "do remember your position."

Yuuki sighed.

"…Yeah, yeah. I get it."

Even so—

His curiosity hadn't gone anywhere.

And Atago could clearly tell.

"Ufufu… don't worry," she said softly, stepping closer. "I don't mind. Even Takao doesn't."

Takao immediately flushed.

"Atago-nee…"

Belfast, however, stepped in with a quiet but firm reminder.

"Master."

Yuuki glanced at her.

"Yes?"

"To Sakura Empire shipgirls," Belfast explained, "their ears and tails are considered highly sensitive. They are not to be handled casually. Typically… only those they trust intimately are permitted such contact."

Yuuki froze for a second.

"…Right. Then I'll just admire from a safe distance."

That would have been the end of it—

Except Atago gently reached for his hand.

Before he could react, she guided it upward.

Placed it on her ear.

Yuuki short-circuited.

"Ufufu… I said I don't mind," Atago murmured, her voice soft with amusement. "As long as you're not aiming for somewhere more improper… unless that was your intention?"

"No—no, hold on," Yuuki immediately protested, flustered. "That's not what I—"

But his fingers had already brushed against the soft fur.

And paused.

"…These are…"

His expression shifted from panic to pure curiosity.

"…actually really soft."

Atago's reaction was immediate.

Her ears twitched under his touch, and a faint sound escaped her before she could fully suppress it.

"Ah… mm…"

Her tail swayed behind her, betraying her composure far more than her face did.

Yuuki, meanwhile, had gone fully into observation mode.

"…The texture's consistent… warmth's natural… neural response is immediate…"

Yorktown pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Commander…"

Belfast's gaze sharpened slightly.

"Master. How long do you intend to continue?"

That snapped him out of it.

"Ah—right. Sorry."

He quickly pulled his hand back, clearing his throat.

Takao, still slightly flushed, narrowed her eyes just a little.

"…Shikikan-sama… you seemed rather familiar with how to handle them."

There was a hint of suspicion there.

Yuuki shrugged casually.

"Well, I've got a cat back in my world. Mr. Whiskers."

That threw them off.

"A cat?" Illustrious asked, intrigued.

"In my world, they're extinct," Yuuki explained. "I found him during one of my travels and decided to keep him. Guess some habits carried over."

Belfast's expression softened slightly.

"My… so Master has a gentle side as well."

Yuuki leaned back, exhaling.

"Yeah… I had Vergil arrange to send him over eventually. I kind of miss the little guy."

Laffey, still half-asleep on his lap, mumbled quietly—

"…soft…"

Yuuki glanced down at her, then back at the others.

"…Alright, no more touching sensitive features without permission. Lesson learned."

Belfast gave a small nod.

"I will hold you to that, Master."

Atago, however, simply smiled.

Because despite everything—

She hadn't pulled away.

Yorktown, Illustrious, and Belfast said nothing.

But the shift was there.

Subtle.

Controlled.

And very real.

Yorktown maintained her composed posture, though her eyes lingered just a second longer than usual on Atago. Illustrious kept her gentle smile, but there was a faint tightness beneath it, as if she were quietly reconsidering something. Belfast, ever the professional, showed the least outward reaction—yet the way her gaze tracked Yuuki for a moment too long spoke volumes.

None of them voiced it.

They didn't need to.

The balance had shifted, even if only slightly.

"Atago-nee… are you alright?" Takao asked quietly as they returned to their seats.

Atago let out a soft breath, her expression carrying a mix of amusement and something more thoughtful.

"…Shikikan-sama is quite something," she admitted. "He instinctively knew how to handle it… the sensitive points as well."

Takao blinked, clearly caught off guard.

"…He did?"

There was a pause.

"…Is he really that experienced…?"

Atago only smiled, not answering directly.

Breakfast resumed soon after, the earlier tension settling into a more conversational rhythm.

Yuuki leaned back slightly, Laffey still comfortably occupying his lap, while the others took their seats around the table. The atmosphere shifted from playful to informative as Atago and Takao began speaking about the Sakura Empire.

"The Sakura Empire is not as uniform as other factions," Takao explained. "Our manifestations vary depending on the spirit we embody."

Atago nodded, picking up smoothly.

"You have already seen ours," she said, lightly brushing a strand of her hair back as her ears gave a small twitch. "But we are far from the only kind."

Yuuki leaned forward slightly, interest returning.

"…So it's not just wolf traits?"

"No," Takao replied. "There are those who manifest feline characteristics, others with fox traits… and more beyond that."

Atago smiled.

"Each carries its own symbolism," she added. "Instinct, temperament, even combat tendencies can differ."

Yuuki's expression turned thoughtful, analytical.

"…So it's not just visual. It's tied to identity and function."

"Exactly," Takao confirmed.

Yuuki leaned back again, processing it.

"…That explains a lot."

Then, almost as an afterthought, he glanced around the table.

"…So I've got wolves, potential foxes, cats…"

He exhaled lightly.

"…My fleet's getting more interesting by the day."

Atago's smile returned, warm and confident.

"And this is only the beginning, Shikikan-sama."

Across the table—

Three quiet glances were exchanged.

Because while Yuuki was thinking about fleet composition—

They were thinking about something else entirely.

"Ufufu… there are many things you still need to learn about shipgirls, Commander," Illustrious said gently, her tone warm but carrying a quiet implication beneath it.

Yorktown nodded in agreement, setting her utensils down with composed precision.

"She's right. What you've seen so far is only the surface. There are differences in how each faction operates, how we think, how we… express ourselves."

Yuuki leaned back slightly, listening.

"Sounds like I've got a lot of catching up to do."

Belfast, seated beside him, gave a small, approving nod as she continued her meal.

"That would be correct, Master," she said. "Understanding your fleet is not merely a matter of recognizing strength and capability. It also requires awareness of individual boundaries, customs, and… sensitivities."

There was a subtle emphasis there.

Yuuki glanced at her.

"…You're still on that, huh."

"I am ensuring proper conduct moving forward," Belfast replied calmly. More like she is envious of Atago and Takao for having something to spike her master's curiosity.

Illustrious smiled behind her hand.

"Every faction has its own nuances, Commander. The Sakura Empire expresses theirs quite openly, as you've seen."

Yorktown crossed her arms lightly, though her tone remained even.

"And others may be less obvious… but no less important."

Yuuki looked between them, catching the underlying thread now. He sighs to himself. So, his other girls are jealous when he is interested in Atago and Takao's ears.

"…Alright, I get it."

Atago, sitting across from him, gave a soft laugh.

"That is only one aspect of being a shipgirl, Shikikan-sama."

Takao added, more formally, "Trust, respect, and understanding are equally important in the Sakura Empire."

Yuuki nodded slowly.

"Yeah… makes sense. That's how I maintained the GDI."

Then he glanced at the three beside him—Illustrious, Yorktown, and Belfast—each composed in their own way, yet clearly watching his response.

"…So," he said, a faint smirk forming, "this is your way of telling me I've got more to learn about all of you."

Illustrious tilted her head, smiling.

"Precisely."

Yorktown didn't deny it.

"…You could put it that way."

Belfast simply added—

"We will ensure you learn properly, Master."

Yuuki sighed, though there was no real resistance in it.

"…I walked into that one."

And yet—

He didn't seem to mind.

After breakfast, the atmosphere in the quarters gradually softened into something far more relaxed and familiar.

The table was cleared, and the kitchen area was quietly taken over by Yorktown, Illustrious, and Belfast. The three of them moved with natural coordination, handling cleanup with an efficiency that made it clear this was second nature to them. Yuuki, for once, had been firmly pushed out of the way and left with nothing to do.

That left him on the sofa.

And, as expected—

With Laffey.

She had already settled herself comfortably across his lap, curled up without a second thought, drifting somewhere between awake and asleep. Her presence was steady, warm, and completely unconcerned with anything happening around her.

Yuuki leaned back and exhaled slowly.

"This is definitely becoming a habit," he muttered, glancing down at her.

She didn't respond, aside from shifting slightly closer.

That was when Atago approached.

Takao followed just behind her, her steps measured, though it was clear she had no intention of letting her sister act alone.

Atago stopped in front of him and smiled softly. Without hesitation, she reached for his hand and guided it upward again, placing it gently against her ear.

"Please… do that again, Shikikan-sama."

Yuuki blinked, caught off guard by how direct she was.

"You're serious?"

Takao hesitated for a moment, then gave a small nod despite the faint blush on her face.

"If it is not troublesome…"

Yuuki let out a quiet breath, already realizing he wasn't going to get out of this.

"…Alright."

This time, his movements were more deliberate. His fingers adjusted naturally, light and controlled, the same way he would handle something delicate. He didn't rush. Instead, he let the response guide him.

Atago reacted immediately.

Her ears twitched beneath his touch, and her posture softened as a quiet, involuntary sound slipped past her lips. Her tail moved freely behind her, swaying and curling in ways she clearly wasn't controlling.

Takao's reaction came slower.

She stiffened at first, as if trying to resist the sensation, but that resistance didn't last long. Her expression shifted, her eyes widening slightly as she tried to process what she was feeling.

"…This sensation… is unusual…"

Yuuki didn't respond. He simply continued, adjusting slightly, maintaining a steady rhythm.

Takao's composure began to give way. Her shoulders eased, her breathing changed, and the tension she carried dissolved piece by piece.

"…I did not anticipate this," she admitted quietly.

Atago, meanwhile, had leaned closer without realizing it. The playful confidence she usually carried had softened into something far more unguarded. Her breathing was uneven, her expression flushed as she tried—and failed—to maintain control.

The space between them disappeared.

Both sisters leaned closer, drawn in by something they hadn't expected.

From the kitchen, Illustrious paused mid-motion.

"My… this is quite the sight," she said, her tone amused but thoughtful.

Belfast stood still for a brief moment, observing carefully.

"Master's technique appears… highly effective," she said.

There was a slight pause before she added, "Perhaps more than intended."

Takao suddenly caught herself and stepped back, bowing quickly.

"Shikikan-sama, please forgive me. I allowed myself to become distracted."

She reached for Atago, gently pulling her back.

"Atago-nee…"

Atago blinked, still flushed, slower to recover than usual.

Yuuki chuckled lightly.

"It's fine. My cat reacts the same way when I do this."

Takao paused, clearly caught off guard by that comparison.

"…A cat…"

By the time the others finished and turned back toward the lounge, they stopped.

Atago and Takao had somehow ended up sitting close on either side of Yuuki, their posture far more relaxed than before.

And Yuuki was still gently running his hand along their ears, completely at ease.

Yorktown let out a quiet sigh.

"Commander…"

Illustrious smiled, clearly entertained by the situation.

"You seem to have quite the talent for calming them."

Yorktown added, her tone dry but not unkind, "If this becomes widely known, the Sakura Empire may need to reconsider its strategic vulnerabilities."

Yuuki shrugged.

"You girls like head pats too."

The moment the words left his mouth, the atmosphere shifted.

It started subtly.

Then became very obvious.

Illustrious looked away with a soft smile, clearly pretending not to react while very much reacting.

Yorktown crossed her arms, though she didn't deny it.

Even Belfast paused, just for a brief moment, her composure slipping enough to be noticeable if one paid attention.

Yuuki looked between them, immediately recognizing what he had just done.

"…That was a mistake."

It was already too late.

The expectation had been set.

And there was no walking it back.

Yuuki let out a quiet breath as the room settled into a softer rhythm. What had started as curiosity had shifted into something more natural, almost instinctive. He raised his hand again, this time without hesitation, and gently rested it on Illustrious' head.

She held her usual graceful posture for a moment, but the change came quickly. Her shoulders relaxed, her expression softened, and her eyes lowered slightly as she leaned into the touch. The refined composure she carried so effortlessly gave way to something warmer and more genuine.

"Commander…" she said quietly, her voice carrying a softness that wasn't there before.

Yuuki moved next to Yorktown. She didn't immediately accept it, her posture remaining firm as if weighing whether to allow it. After a brief pause, she exhaled and gave the smallest nod. When his hand settled on her head, she did not melt as openly as Illustrious had, but the tension in her stance eased. Her arms loosened at her sides, and her gaze drifted slightly away as she adjusted to the sensation.

"You're… unexpectedly good at this," she admitted, her tone steady but lacking its usual edge.

"Anything for my first shipgirl." Those words made her beat red.

Yuuki smirked faintly, then turned his attention to Belfast.

She stood as composed as ever, watching the exchange with measured calm. There was no outward request, no visible expectation, yet she did not step back when he approached. That alone told him enough.

When his hand rested gently atop her head, Belfast remained still for a moment. Then, almost imperceptibly, she leaned into it just slightly. Her eyes lowered, and though her expression stayed controlled, the subtle shift in her posture revealed more than words would have.

"Master," she said in a quiet, even tone, "this is… permissible."

It was her way of accepting it.

On his lap, Laffey remained unchanged, comfortably settled as if this had always been her place. She shifted slightly, pressing closer without opening her eyes.

"…comfortable…" she murmured, her voice fading again as she drifted.

Atago and Takao stayed near him, their earlier reactions no longer overwhelming but still present in the way they lingered close. Atago watched with a knowing smile, while Takao, though more restrained, no longer seemed as guarded.

Yuuki leaned back slightly, looking at all of them as the moment settled.

"…I think I understand now," he said.

He wasn't talking about their ears, or their traits, or even the differences between factions.

It was something simpler.

These gestures—small, unguarded, personal—carried weight. They weren't about indulgence or curiosity anymore. They were about trust, about reassurance, about presence.

He let his hand fall back to his side.

"You're not just weapons," he added quietly. "You're… people I need to understand properly."

This time, no one teased him.

Because the way he said it made it clear—

He meant it.

==============

The hum of the base returned as Yuuki stepped into work mode.

A wide holographic interface unfolded in front of him, layered with grids, terrain mapping, structural outlines, and live system feeds. With a few precise gestures, he began issuing commands—not through voice alone, but through direct control of the entire island's infrastructure.

The girls watched from behind.

Atago and Takao, in particular, stood quietly as their former home continued to change before their eyes.

What once had been familiar—

Was now something else entirely.

New structures rose across the island in coordinated sequences, materials assembling with mechanical precision. Defensive nodes adjusted their positions. Energy relays synchronized. Entire sections of the island reorganized themselves under Yuuki's direction as if the land itself answered to him.

"…This is…" Atago murmured, unable to hide her amazement.

Takao narrowed her eyes slightly, studying the systems with a more tactical lens.

"…He is not merely constructing," she said. "He is optimizing in real time."

Yorktown folded her arms, watching with quiet approval.

"That's how he operates," she said. "Everything is connected. Nothing is wasted."

Illustrious tilted her head, clearly impressed.

"It feels less like building… and more like orchestrating."

Belfast, standing closest to Yuuki, observed the holographic projections with sharp attention. Then her gaze shifted slightly toward a newly formed structure appearing on the outer grid.

"Master," she said, pointing subtly. "That installation—what is its function?"

Yuuki followed her indication and gave a small nod.

"That's the Ultra Dome."

The structure materialized fully on the projection—large, centralized, and clearly designed as a core system rather than a standalone defense.

"It's originally a Euro Alliance device from my world," he explained. "I integrated it into GDI systems."

He adjusted the interface, bringing up its operational parameters.

"The Ultra Dome acts as a synchronization hub. It links all defensive systems within its radius and allows them to share data in real time—enemy positions, movement patterns, even predictive trajectories."

Atago's ears twitched slightly.

"…Predictive?"

Yuuki nodded.

"Past, present, and projected future positioning. It doesn't just react—it anticipates."

Takao's expression sharpened.

"…That would eliminate blind spots entirely."

"Exactly," Yuuki replied. "And more than that—once linked, every defense system under its influence operates more efficiently. Higher accuracy, faster response, increased output."

He glanced back at them.

"In simple terms, everything around it hits harder and reacts smarter."

Atago let out a soft breath.

"…That is… quite overwhelming."

Yuuki smirked faintly.

"Now imagine scaling that."

He paused, then added casually—

"If I miniaturize the system and mount it onto my flagship…"

He tapped the interface lightly.

"…then all of you—your rigging, your targeting, your coordination—would be enhanced the same way."

The implication settled in immediately.

Takao straightened.

"…You would be turning us into a fully synchronized combat fleet."

Yorktown nodded slowly.

"That would push operational efficiency beyond anything we've seen."

Illustrious smiled, though there was a hint of awe behind it.

"A fleet that not only acts together… but thinks together."

Atago looked at Yuuki, her expression soft but impressed.

"Shikikan-sama… you truly intend to change everything, don't you?"

Yuuki leaned back slightly, the holographic interface dimming as he finished his adjustments for the day.

"That's the plan."

He glanced at the island—now far more fortified, more alive than before.

Yuuki's hands moved across the holographic interface with practiced ease, the projection expanding as new command layers came online.

"Friday," he said, voice steady, "sync me with Philadelphia."

Illustrious tilted her head slightly, curiosity immediate.

"Friday?" she asked.

Yuuki didn't look away from the interface as he answered.

"JARVIS handles local operations," he explained. "Friday is something else entirely."

He paused for a brief moment, then clarified.

"The Global Defense Space Station—Philadelphia."

The display shifted, projecting a massive orbital structure above the planet. Its scale dwarfed anything they had seen so far, a fully operational command platform suspended in low orbit, surrounded by layered defense systems and deployment modules.

"The GDSS Philadelphia acts as our primary command and control center," Yuuki continued. "All global operations can be routed through it. Strategic coordination, long-range surveillance, and limited tactical support."

Yorktown's gaze sharpened as she studied the projection.

"…It can deploy assets from orbit?"

Yuuki nodded.

"Drop pods, rapid insertion units, orbital logistics. It's not meant to replace the space fleet, but it can act independently when needed."

Takao crossed her arms slightly, clearly evaluating.

"…A forward command platform in orbit. That alone changes the scale of warfare."

Belfast watched quietly, committing every detail to memory.

Yuuki stepped closer to the interface, his expression turning more formal.

"Yukihira Yuuki," he stated clearly, "High Command authorization. Alpha Delta Charlie Zulu 52775."

The system paused.

Then—

The GDI crest materialized, rotating slowly in the air as layers of authentication protocols unfolded and locked into place.

A soft, refined voice followed.

"Philadelphia uplink successful. Welcome back, Commander."

The connection stabilized instantly, streams of data flowing into Yuuki's interface—orbital feeds, system diagnostics, operational readiness reports.

Yuuki allowed himself a small, familiar smile.

"It's good to be back, Friday."

The holographic display expanded, shifting from orbital schematics to a global projection. Continents lit up in layers of color, each zone marked with density overlays, movement patterns, and control indicators. The room grew quieter as the scale of the situation became clear.

Friday's voice remained calm and precise as she delivered the report.

"Current global threat level: low activity spike. Overall planetary condition continues to deteriorate. Siren infestation and territorial control have reached critical thresholds."

The map adjusted.

Large sections of the world turned red.

"The planet is currently divided into three operational states," she continued. "Red zones indicate complete Siren dominance. These regions contain multiple active production bases and autonomous fleets. Human presence is negligible or non-existent."

Atago's expression tightened as she studied the projection.

"…They have taken that much already…"

Friday continued without pause.

"Yellow zones represent partially controlled territories. These areas contain the majority of the remaining global population. Infrastructure is unstable. Civil governance has collapsed in most regions. Sirens operate freely within these zones and utilize them for sustained unit production."

Takao's gaze hardened.

"They are using human territories as resource hubs…"

"Correct," Friday confirmed. "Projected outcome: full conversion of yellow zones into red zones if current conditions persist."

The map shifted again.

Scattered blue regions appeared—small, isolated, and heavily fortified.

"Blue zones indicate independent faction strongholds. These areas maintain localized control and defensive capability. However, access is restricted. Population consists primarily of elite or high-value individuals."

Yorktown crossed her arms, her voice low.

"So the world's effectively fractured. Total loss, unstable survival, or isolated privilege."

Yuuki exhaled slowly, eyes fixed on the projection.

"…Yeah. That's worse than I expected."

He remained silent for a moment, processing.

Then his focus sharpened.

"Friday," he said, "status of my naval units."

The display shifted again, this time showing fleet deployment structures, docking states, and readiness indicators.

"Confirmed," Friday replied. "Commander Vergil has completed preparation. Naval assets are ready for deployment under your command."

A new list appeared.

Clear.

Structured.

"You are assigned command of the following units," she continued.

"Thermopylae Command Carrier."

The image of a massive flagship appeared—larger than standard carriers, layered with command arrays and advanced coordination systems. It's size? Quite larger than Zeus.

"GDS Pathe Aircraft Carrier."

A second vessel followed, sleeker, optimized for sustained aerial deployment.

"GDS Ghost Aircraft Carrier."

The third appeared with a different profile—stealth-oriented, its systems designed for concealment and precision strikes.

"Additionally, four GDI Destroyer-class Battleships are assigned as escort units alongside six GDI Aegis-class Battleship."

Takao's eyes narrowed slightly as she studied the formation.

"…That is not a fleet. That is a mobile command force."

Yorktown nodded.

"More than enough for a forward operation."

Yuuki allowed a faint smile.

"That's the idea."

He glanced at the map again, focusing briefly on a marked location near the former Azur Lane headquarters.

Then back to the fleet.

"Good," he said simply.

Friday's voice followed.

"Good luck, Commander."

Yuuki straightened slightly, the weight of command settling in—but this time, it felt different.

"Establishing video uplink."

The holographic interface shifted, compressing the global map into a corner as a new feed opened. Static flickered for a brief moment before stabilizing, revealing a familiar figure standing within a high-tech command deck aboard the Little Doctor.

Vergil leaned slightly toward the feed, a grin already forming.

"Sup, man?"

Yuuki crossed his arms, relaxed as always.

"Yeah. You too."

Vergil's eyes shifted past him for a second, clearly taking in the figures behind Yuuki.

"Well… looks like you scored yourself six beauties."

Yuuki didn't even react much.

"…Kind of."

Vergil chuckled.

"Good thing I'm not down there. Eva would kill me."

Yuuki smirked faintly.

"Funny. You sound more afraid of Eva than anything else."

Vergil pointed at him through the screen.

"Don't even start. You remember the last time she got mad at both of us?"

Yuuki nodded immediately.

"Yeah. I hid inside a supply barrel for half a day."

Vergil groaned.

"And she still found you."

Yuuki gave him a sympathetic look.

"And that same girl is probably going to marry you someday."

Vergil waved it off.

"I'll deal with that problem when it becomes unavoidable."

His tone shifted slightly as he brought up new data.

"Anyway, I triangulated the data you sent. These Sirens are something else. Organized, layered command structure… and you're not dealing with just one Purifier."

Yuuki narrowed his eyes.

"We already captured one."

"Yeah, and that's the point," Vergil replied. "Purifier is low rank. There are more of them out there."

The display updated on Yuuki's side, showing a new movement pattern.

"I picked up a fleet movement," Vergil continued. "Roughly two hundred Siren ships heading toward a small island. Lead unit—another Purifier."

Takao's expression hardened.

"…Two hundred…"

Yuuki leaned forward slightly.

"What's on that island?"

Vergil smirked faintly.

"I figured the ladies behind you would want to hear this."

He paused for effect.

"They're after three shipgirls."

The room stilled.

"One of them—USS Enterprise."

Yorktown reacted instantly.

"Enterprise!?"

Belfast's posture straightened, her attention fully locked.

Vergil continued.

"The Eagle Union's healer—USS Vestal."

Yorktown's expression shifted again.

"…Vestal…"

"And one more," Vergil added. "A younger one. HMS Unicorn."

Illustrious's hand tightened slightly.

"…Unicorn…"

Yuuki's gaze sharpened immediately.

"If we move now—"

"You'll beat them there," Vergil confirmed. "We can spare one Chronosphere charge. The last deployment is still on cooldown, but this one's available."

Yuuki nodded.

"I'll take it."

Vergil continued, bringing up another overlay.

"Also, not far from that island is the former Azur Lane Headquarters. It's not fully destroyed. There's something there—Siren activity confirms it."

Yuuki's expression turned more focused.

"I'll investigate and upload whatever I find."

"Good," Vergil said. "And one more thing."

His tone shifted again—more serious now.

"If possible, capture that Purifier alive. And any low-rank Sirens with her. Don't wipe them out like last time."

Yuuki exhaled lightly.

"You know they don't exactly cooperate. If they resist, I can't guarantee non-lethal outcomes."

Vergil smirked.

"That's why I've got something for you."

The display shifted again, revealing a new schematic.

Yuuki's eyes narrowed.

"…Wait. That's—"

"Yeah," Vergil confirmed. "Dr. Siegfried's Chrono Prison."

The schematic expanded, showing a modified system integrated into a cruiser-class platform.

"I adapted the Prison Beam," Vergil explained. "Instead of a ground unit, it's now mounted on a naval chassis. Think of it as a floating Chrono Prison."

Yuuki stared at the projection, already understanding the implications.

"…So instead of destroying targets—"

"You displace them," Vergil finished. "Chronoshift them into a controlled dimensional space in the Philadelphia. We can take it from there. Containment instead of elimination."

Takao spoke quietly.

"…A battlefield capture system…"

Atago's ears twitched.

"…That's terrifying…"

Vergil shrugged casually.

"I'm sending you three of them. Experimental, but stable enough for field use."

Yuuki let out a low breath.

"…That changes things."

"No more wasting potential assets," Vergil added. "We capture, study, and repurpose."

Yuuki nodded.

"Send them over."

"They're already en route," Vergil replied. "Mass production comes later once we finalize the design."

Yuuki smirked slightly.

"Nice work."

Vergil leaned back.

"Yeah, I know."

A brief pause followed.

Then—

"Good luck down there," Vergil said. "And try not to break too many things before I get more data."

Yuuki gave a short nod.

"I'll try."

The connection flickered.

Then closed.

And just like that—

The mission had changed.

"Commander… please," Yorktown said, stepping forward, her composure steady but urgency clear beneath it. "We need to move. Enterprise and Vestal are in danger."

Illustrious followed, her expression softer but no less resolute.

"And Unicorn as well, Lord Commander. She is… like a little sister to me. We cannot leave her to face that alone."

Yuuki looked at both of them, then gave a short nod.

"I know," he said. "We're moving now. Everyone, get ready."

The atmosphere shifted instantly.

From calm—

To operation-ready.

A new voice cut in through the system.

"Commander," Eva reported, her tone precise, "naval units have been unboxed from their storage cubicles. All assigned vessels are prepared for Chronoshift deployment. The First Naval Fleet is ready."

Yuuki turned slightly toward the interface.

"Proceed."

A brief pause followed.

Then—

"Teleportation sequence initiating," Eva continued. "Fleet arrival in five… four… three… two… one."

The world outside shifted.

For a split second, the air itself seemed to distort, space bending unnaturally over the ocean not far from the island. Light refracted, the horizon warping as if reality itself had been displaced.

Then—

They appeared.

Massive silhouettes materialized across the sea in perfect formation.

The ocean had not simply received a fleet.

It had been claimed by one.

At the center of the formation stood the Thermopylae Command Carrier, a vessel so immense that it redefined what a "ship" could be. Its structure rose like a mobile fortress, layered with command arrays, sensor spires, and synchronized systems that pulsed with controlled energy as they came online. In scale and presence, it resembled Zeus itself—only now adapted for the sea, a floating command citadel capable of directing an entire war theater.

Flanking it were the GDS Pathe and GDS Ghost, both aircraft carriers, yet far removed from anything conventional. Each was easily twice the size of a Kodiak, their hulls engineered for entirely different philosophies of warfare. The Pathe projected raw operational endurance, its deck systems already calibrating for sustained aerial deployment. The Ghost, by contrast, seemed quieter, more restrained—its design focused on concealment, precision, and controlled lethality.

Around them, the formation tightened.

Four destroyer-class battleships held position with disciplined symmetry, each one comparable in size to a Kodiak but refined for naval dominance. Their silhouettes were sharp, purposeful, built for direct engagement and overwhelming firepower.

Encircling the formation were six Aegis-class anti-missile battleships, forming a protective ring. Their systems activated in sequence, invisible defense grids linking together as if the fleet itself possessed a unified awareness of every possible threat.

The sea calmed.

The distortion in space faded completely.

And where there had been nothing—

Now stood a fleet that dwarfed anything the world below had ever seen.

Atago and Takao stood still, their eyes fixed on the horizon.

For them, the comparison was immediate.

Their original ship forms—

Were not even close.

Atago's ears twitched sharply, betraying her shock.

Takao's composure held, but only just.

"…That was not construction," Takao said, her voice measured but heavy with realization. "That was instantaneous deployment across distance."

Atago looked from the fleet back to Yuuki, still trying to process what she had just witnessed.

"…Shikikan-sama… what happened just now…?"

Yuuki glanced at them briefly, then back at the fleet.

"I'll let Bel explain that one."

Belfast stepped forward, already prepared.

"That was Chronoshift technology," she said calmly. "A spatial displacement system that allows instant relocation of large-scale assets through the use of Chronosphere."

Takao frowned slightly.

"…Instant… relocation?"

"Chronosphere?" Atago wondered.

"Correct," Belfast continued. "The fleet was not created. It was transported from another location—likely orbital or off-world storage—directly into operational position. As for the Chronosphere? I never seen it myself but, Master said it is a support weapon that powers up Chronoshift."

Atago's expression shifted from confusion to awe.

"…So distance doesn't matter anymore…"

Belfast gave a small nod.

"Within operational limits, yes. Currently, Master said that Chronosphere network isn't covering the entire world. Yet."

Yorktown stepped forward, her gaze already locked onto the fleet.

"…Then we have no reason to delay."

Illustrious followed, her tone gentle but firm.

"We must reach them before the Sirens do."

Yuuki turned toward the sea, eyes focused.

"Alright," he said.

"Let's go save them."
