Chapter 64 - What Peace Feels Like When It Finally Arrives

The villa no longer felt like a space he needed to interpret.

It had become simple again.

Not because it changed—

but because he did.

Shen Yichen stood by the window, hands relaxed at his sides, eyes steady without searching.

Lu Han watched him for a while before speaking.

"You're different in a way that doesn't look like recovery anymore," he said quietly.

Shen Yichen didn't deny it.

"…It doesn't feel like recovery," he replied.

A pause.

"It feels like I'm just here."

Silence.

Lin Yue looked at him softly.

"And does being 'just here' feel enough?" she asked.

Shen Yichen thought for a moment.

"…Yes," he said quietly.

A pause.

"It does now."

Silence.

That answer used to require effort.

Now it was immediate truth.

Lu Han stepped forward slightly.

"You've fully exited survival cognition," he said.

Shen Yichen nodded once.

"I think I stopped surviving a while ago," he said quietly.

A pause.

"I just didn't realize it."

Silence.

Lin Yue stepped slightly closer.

Shen Yichen noticed—but nothing inside him reacted anymore.

No urgency.

No correction.

Just awareness.

She was here.

And she stayed.

Lin Yue spoke softly.

"You don't look at me like something you might lose anymore," she said.

Shen Yichen shook his head once.

"…No," he said quietly.

A pause.

"I look at you like you're already here."

Silence.

Lu Han exhaled slowly.

"That's emotional permanence," he said.

Shen Yichen looked at him.

"I don't think I experience it as a concept anymore," he said quietly.

A pause.

"It just feels true."

Silence.

Lin Yue tilted her head slightly.

"What do I feel like to you now?" she asked softly.

Shen Yichen looked at her for a long moment.

"…Safe," he said quietly.

A pause.

"And real in a way I don't question anymore."

Silence.

No fear-filter.

No distortion.

Only presence, steady and unbroken.

Lu Han stepped back slightly.

"You've reached full psychological integration," he said quietly.

Shen Yichen didn't respond immediately.

Then softly:

"I don't feel like something ended," he said.

A pause.

"I feel like I finally learned how to live without bracing for everything."

Silence.

Lin Yue smiled faintly.

"And now?" she asked.

Shen Yichen looked at her.

"…Now I stay," he said quietly.

A pause.

"Not because I need to hold anything in place."

Silence.

"But because I finally understand I don't have to."

And in that final quiet—

nothing in him resisted peace anymore.

It simply existed.

And so did they.

Together.

Without fear.

Without distance.

Just life, finally allowed to be soft.
