The shift didn't stop.
It stabilized.
And that was almost harder for Shen Yichen to accept than the chaos before it.
He stood near Lin Yue—but the distance between them no longer felt like a calculation.
It just… existed.
Lu Han noticed it immediately.
"You're no longer correcting your position every few seconds," he said.
Shen Yichen nodded once.
"…I don't feel the need to," he replied.
Lin Yue looked at him softly.
"And what do you feel instead?" she asked.
Shen Yichen paused.
"…Presence," he said quietly.
A pause.
"And waiting."
Silence.
Not panic.
Not urgency.
Just awareness without distortion.
Lu Han stepped forward slightly.
"You're in a stabilized phase now," he said.
Shen Yichen frowned faintly.
"It doesn't feel stable," he admitted.
Lin Yue tilted her head.
"Why not?"
Shen Yichen looked at her.
"Because nothing is triggering me anymore," he said quietly.
A pause.
"And I don't know what that means."
Silence.
That uncertainty had replaced fear—but hadn't replaced structure yet.
Lu Han exhaled slowly.
"You're not used to neutral baseline," he said.
Shen Yichen nodded once.
"I'm used to extremes," he admitted.
Silence.
Lin Yue stepped slightly closer.
Shen Yichen noticed—but the response came late again.
Smaller.
Almost optional.
Lin Yue spoke softly.
"You're starting to experience me without emotional distortion," she said.
Shen Yichen didn't deny it.
"…Yes," he said.
A pause.
"But it feels like I'm missing something."
Silence.
That was the last remnant of the old system.
Not fear itself—
but the belief that fear was necessary for meaning.
Lu Han's voice softened.
"You're transitioning into emotional normalcy," he said.
Shen Yichen looked at him.
"I don't trust normal," he said quietly.
A pause.
"It never existed for me before."
Silence.
Lin Yue smiled faintly.
"Maybe it's just new," she said gently.
Shen Yichen looked at her for a long moment.
"…When you move away now," he said quietly,
"I don't assume you're gone."
A pause.
"That feels wrong."
Silence.
Lin Yue shook her head softly.
"It's not wrong," she said.
"It's just unfamiliar safety."
Shen Yichen didn't respond immediately.
Then quietly:
"I still want to check sometimes."
Lin Yue nodded.
"That's okay."
Silence.
Lu Han stepped back slightly.
"You're no longer ruled by fear," he said.
Shen Yichen looked at him.
"…But I still remember it," he said.
A pause.
"And I think I always will."
Silence.
Lin Yue stepped closer again.
This time, Shen Yichen noticed—but there was no spike at all.
Just recognition.
And something new forming underneath it.
Not fear.
Not panic.
Just acceptance without alarm.
Lin Yue spoke softly.
"You don't need fear to care about me anymore," she said.
Shen Yichen looked at her for a long moment.
"…I know," he said quietly.
A pause.
"But I used to think I did."
Silence.
And for the first time,
he didn't feel like he was losing something by letting fear go.
He felt like he was finally seeing her—
without it.
