Chapter 9 - Inheritor

In the blink of an eye, three months passed since Jiang Hai had butchered Yuudai and his family. During this time, his chakra reserves had skyrocketed.

The first thing Jiang Hai did after killing Yuudai was refine him into a chakra speck and spend the next fifteen days absorbing it. He then spent another twenty-plus days absorbing the remaining three chakra specks. Contrary to his prior estimation, his chakra had reached the low-tier Genin level by the time he had fully absorbed them.

Next, he silently killed the fruit seller's entire family and several other civilians who had formed their chakras. He spent another month and a half absorbing their chakra specks. Jiang Hai's chakra reserves grew day by day, eventually catching up to the mid-tier Genin level.

For the remaining fifteen or so days, he trained diligently. He mastered the art of water walking, and his proficiency with chakra threads reached a whole new level as he attained several new insights regarding their usage.

Other than that, Jiang Hai underwent a remarkable physical transformation. He had been a scrawny and weak-looking boy, but his body was now more muscular and well-toned after regularly consuming meat and other nutritious food. He had also been regularly enhancing his body with chakra over the past three months, which further raised his stamina, durability, and other raw physical aspects. For the resources he had, he did well.

....

"Ha!"

Jiang Hai roared silently as he strained his waist and sent a thunderous punch at a human-sized boulder.

Crack!

Under Jiang Hai's chakra-enhanced punch, the sturdy boulder first cracked before fully shattering into hundreds of tiny rock fragments. Jiang Hai was not done there; he raised his right leg, concentrated chakra in his heel, and rapidly swung it down like a guillotine.

BAM!

The terrifying force of the kick resulted in the formation of a meter-wide crater in the tough ground.

The physical training continued as Jiang Hai focused chakra on various parts of his body and used the forest as his punching bag. There were craters and shattered pieces of rock everywhere. With his superior chakra control, the chakra wastage was minimal every time he punched or kicked. After four hours of harsh training, Jiang Hai rested on the ground, breathing heavily.

"Huff..." Jiang Hai bounced back to his feet and started to make his way back.

'These days, the unrest within the village has increased greatly. It seems that the Third Ninja War is coming to an end. Yahiko's death should be nearing now. If I remember correctly, at the moment of his death, Nagato will slaughter most of Hanzo's troops. That is sure to cause a commotion in the village, but will things really proceed like the original storyline? After all, there are ten variables present. Sigh. Let's check my status.'

### Status Window

Inheritor: Jiang Hai (Alive)

Inheritor Status: #9 (Alive)

Fortune Points: 2372

Chakra Control:High-tier

Chakra Reserve: Genin (Mid-tier)

Mysterious Skills: Chakra Refining

'What?? Someone died? It was bound to happen sooner or later. This is both a fortune and a misfortune. I hope this inheritor didn't die at the hands of another inheritor.' Jiang Hai's expression turned slightly dark as he began pondering deeply.

Jiang Hai checked the status window from time to time, and today was no different. He had anticipated this situation, but the change nonetheless startled him. The life and death status of other inheritors was of great significance to Jiang Hai.

The advantage was that there would be fewer shifts in the storyline. Furthermore, fewer people would be aware of Jiang Hai's existence as an otherworldly soul. The chances of people from the Naruto world finding out about the presence of foreign souls would also decrease, avoiding unnecessary trouble. Most notably, there was one less assassin for Jiang Hai to constantly worry about.

As for the disadvantage, it was the loss of a mysterious skill. When an inheritor kills another inheritor, they gain the victim's mysterious skill and one thousand fortune points. In this case, Jiang Hai was worried that one of the eight other inheritors might have gained another mysterious skill, strengthening his irreconcilable opposers. If the dead inheritor was killed by a shinobi of this world, it would be the second-best scenario. The shinobi would get the mysterious skill but would lack the ability to use the system, remaining blissfully unaware of the other nine inheritors.

Jiang Hai personally slaying the other nine inheritors remained the absolute best-case scenario.

'No use thinking about it anymore. There is nothing I can do about it.' Jiang Hai sighed deeply in his heart.

'My next move is to infiltrate the only hospital in the Rain Village and steal medical knowledge, medical ninjutsu, and shinobi corpses if possible. Once my knowledge of the human body increases to a certain point, along with my top-class chakra control, the boost in my physical strength while using chakra enhancement will be incredible.' Jiang Hai's eyes shone with an eerie light.

'But I have to make a few preparations before that. I need to buy a few things, and then it is time for another bloodbath.' Jiang Hai smiled indifferently and vanished from the forest. He decided to visit a weapon shop first before collecting chakra specks by refining ordinary civilians.
