Chapter 16 - Second Inquiry

While Akikawa Sosuke was receiving treatment,

the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department also concluded their investigation.

Afterwards, Takagi Wataru from the Tokyo Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Criminal Investigation Department First Division, Violent Crimes Investigation Section Three brought the relevant documents from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to the hospital.

"Investigations into cases typically take a considerable amount of time, but this one was unexpectedly simple."

"That's because neither the victim nor the victim's social relationships were complicated."

Takagi Wataru said to everyone in the room.

"Akikawa Ryoko had divorced a long time ago, and her ex-husband had also passed away years ago due to an accident."

"Besides Akikawa Sosuke, Akikawa Ryoko also had a daughter who followed her father when her parents divorced."

"After the Police contacted Akikawa Ryoko's daughter, the daughter was quite shocked about her mother's death."

"However, because the daughter had no contact with her mother since her parents' divorce, the daughter was unaware of her mother's social relationships."

"Additionally, we found Akikawa Ryoko's past medical records at Akikawa Sosuke's home, which indicated that Akikawa Ryoko had been diagnosed with schizophrenia."

Although Conan and the others were slightly surprised by this news, they weren't overly taken aback.

Because a mother capable of imprisoning her child likely had mental health issues.

"Speaking of which, Officer Takagi."

Conan raised his head and looked at Takagi Wataru.

"May I ask if the victim was diagnosed with schizophrenia before or after the divorce?"

"Before the divorce."

Takagi Wataru compared it with the documents in his hand and gave a definitive answer.

"Hmm, then why would a patient with schizophrenia still be granted custody of a child?"

"Getting sick before the divorce, was it something like domestic violence?"

"No, dwelling on this doesn't seem to have much meaning. The ex-husband is already deceased, and they divorced a long time ago..."

Conan mumbled a few words softly, ultimately concluding that the victim's experiences related to her ex-husband would not be helpful to this case.

"Afterwards, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department visited the restaurant where the victim occasionally worked. Upon learning of the victim's death, they were all quite shocked."

"Basically, everyone who had worked with Akikawa Ryoko said that Akikawa Ryoko was quiet and withdrawn on weekdays, had a reclusive personality, and barely spoke to them at all."

"So, even though Akikawa Ryoko worked at that restaurant for three years, she didn't have any friends."

"As for the Police asking them if they had ever noticed Akikawa Ryoko having mental health issues, everyone gave a negative response."

"Furthermore, Akikawa Ryoko's frequency of going to work wasn't high, about four times a week."

After listening to Takagi Wataru finish speaking, Sera Masumi began analyzing with her head down.

"Four times a week... Even working eight hours a day, calculated at the minimum hourly wage in Tokyo, that would only amount to a salary of barely around 130,000 yen a month."

"And besides rent, they also have a car that requires monthly parking fees, plus three insurance policies..."

"They were still renting an apartment. Could such an income really support the lives of a mother and child?"

Sera Masumi was puzzled.

"Although the income isn't high, they could still survive. After all, Akikawa Sosuke didn't need much money for food."

Sato Miwako said.

"Huh? How did Miss Sera know they were renting an apartment?" Takagi Wataru asked, puzzled.

"You can figure it out by thinking. How could someone who moves frequently buy an apartment?"

"I see."

Takagi Wataru nodded.

"As for the suspect, Akikawa Sosuke, the Police contacted the elementary school he used to attend. The investigation revealed that no one still had contact with him."

"Combined with the previous conclusion that Akikawa Sosuke was confined by his mother, he likely had absolutely no social relationships."

"That concludes the information related to the case that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has gathered."

"Only this much..."

Everyone in the room frowned upon hearing this.

"Having almost no social relationships means it's unlikely there would be enemies."

"Coupled with this impoverished and difficult life, it's hard to imagine someone harboring such great hatred towards Akikawa Ryoko."

"Revenge killing by an outsider can basically be ruled out..."

"So, the only person who could harbor enough hatred towards Akikawa Ryoko and benefit from Akikawa Ryoko's death is Akikawa Sosuke?"

Conan analyzed in a low voice.

"However, if that's the case, it contradicts the suspect Akikawa Sosuke's own statement, because he said his mother was killed by someone riding a motorcycle."

Sato Miwako added.

She had heard Nakajima Takuto's report and knew that Akikawa Sosuke had said the perpetrator was someone else.

"It seems the possibility of Akikawa Sosuke lying is still the greatest."

---

After undergoing four hours of treatment, Akikawa Sosuke was once again sent back to his hospital room.

Although it had only been just over a day since he transmigrated.

But Akikawa Sosuke always felt that this one day might be more exhausting than a week.

Perhaps it was because too many things had happened in this short period.

"Liver dysfunction, anemia, severe malnutrition, fractured right hand, head trauma, multiple bruises on the body..."

"Am I going to live the rest of my life with a body like this?"

Although Akikawa Sosuke knew that getting a second chance at life after death was nothing to complain about.

But as his understanding of himself deepened, Akikawa Sosuke couldn't help but feel weary.

"Speaking of which, as long as I complete the system's options, I can directly gain improvements. I also saw items like [Recovery Cards] before, which should be able to cure all these old ailments on my body."

"For a child to be raised like this by their mother is quite outrageous..."

Just as Akikawa Sosuke was staring at the ceiling and talking to himself in his mind, he suddenly heard a knock on the door.

Then he saw a tall woman in a suit, as well as Sera Masumi and Conan, whom he had seen before, walk in.

"Another Detective... Looks like her rank is higher than that Nakajima."

"But Nakajima didn't come this time. It seems he was forcibly removed from this case because of the forced confession incident."

"Speaking of which, that handsome Detective next to the Grim Reaper Kid, his combat ability is too frightening."

Akikawa Sosuke complained in his mind.

"Hello, Mr. Akikawa, I am a Detective from the Tokyo Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Criminal Investigation Department First Division, Violent Crimes Investigation Section Three. My name is Sato Miwako."

Sato Miwako had no intention of concealing her identity. Instead, she walked directly in front of Akikawa Sosuke and showed her police badge.

"First, I would like to apologize on behalf of Detective Nakajima for the excessive actions he took towards Mr. Akikawa earlier."

"Although this might make it difficult to gain Mr. Akikawa's understanding, Detective Nakajima will also receive corresponding punishment upon returning to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department."

"Oh."

Looking at the beautiful Detective who was sincerely bowing to him, Akikawa Sosuke responded indifferently.

As for the punishment Sato Miwako mentioned, Akikawa Sosuke didn't quite believe it.

After all, how they would be punished would still be their own internal matter.

"Although I don't actually resent Nakajima, I have him to thank for wanting to get out of this case."

"Next, I'll probably be taken to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department for questioning, right? As long as I'm not with the Detectives, the problems won't be too big..."

Akikawa Sosuke pondered in his mind.

Then he heard Sato Miwako straighten up and continue speaking to him:

"Although it may be rude to disturb you right after you've finished surgery, I would still like to ask you a few questions regarding this case."

"Huh?"
