Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 — The Trap That Targets the Heart

The city moved as usual.

But beneath it—

something was being prepared.

Deep underground—

hidden from guild systems—

a sealed chamber activated.

Strange symbols lit up across the walls.

Not magic.

Not technology.

Something older.

Adrian Cross stood at the center.

Calm. Focused.

"…Begin Phase One."

A distorted voice responded:

"Target confirmed: Kael Veyron.""Secondary variable: Elena Virel."

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…Use her."

Above ground—

Elena walked alone.

Her footsteps were slow.

Thoughtful.

"…Stay."

She repeated the word quietly.

Why did she say that?

Why did it feel… natural?

Her phone vibrated.

Unknown Number:"Emergency anomaly detected. Immediate response required."

Her expression sharpened instantly.

Location: Residential Zone — Sector 12

Her eyes widened slightly.

"…That's near his home."

She moved immediately.

Fast.

Focused.

But she didn't notice—

she was already being guided.

At the same time—

Kael stood near his apartment.

Still.

Silent.

The air around him felt… wrong.

"…A setup."

His phone vibrated.

Sister:"Are you coming home early today?"

Kael looked at the message.

For a moment—

everything else faded.

"…Soon."

Then—

the sky flickered.

Kael's gaze shifted.

"…They moved first."

Sector 12—

empty.

Too empty.

Elena arrived instantly.

No civilians.

No noise.

No movement.

"…This isn't right."

The ground beneath her cracked.

Not physically.

Reality split.

A barrier formed instantly—

sealing the entire area.

Elena's eyes widened.

"…A trap."

From the shadows—

Adrian stepped forward.

"…Correct."

Elena's expression hardened.

"You set this up."

Adrian tilted his head slightly.

"…Not entirely."

A pause.

"You simply walked into it."

Anger flickered in her eyes.

"…Why?"

Adrian smiled faintly.

"To test something."

Before she could react—

the space around her distorted violently.

Chains formed.

Not physical.

Not visible.

But binding.

Her body froze.

"…What is this—?!"

Adrian's gaze remained calm.

"A containment structure."

A pause.

"Designed for something beyond classification."

Elena struggled—

but couldn't move.

"…You're targeting him through me."

Adrian didn't deny it.

"…You're important to him."

Silence.

Her expression shifted.

"…You're wrong."

But her voice—

was slightly softer.

At that exact moment—

Kael arrived.

No sound.

No warning.

He was just… there.

The moment he appeared—

the entire barrier trembled.

His eyes moved once—

toward Elena.

Frozen.

Trapped.

Something changed.

Not visible.

But heavy.

"…Let her go."

Adrian smiled.

"…There it is."

The pressure in the air increased instantly.

"…Emotion."

Kael stepped forward.

The barrier reacted—

pushing against him.

"…Interesting."

Adrian watched closely.

"You're reacting differently now."

Kael didn't respond.

Dark green aura began to spread slowly.

Not explosive.

But deeper than before.

The ground beneath him cracked.

Reality trembled.

Elena watched—

eyes slightly widened.

"…He's serious."

Adrian's expression sharpened.

"…Good."

The barrier activated fully.

Layers upon layers of structure—

locking reality itself.

Kael raised his hand.

Stopped.

For a brief moment—

he hesitated.

Elena saw it.

"…Don't."

Kael looked at her.

"…It'll break everything."

She forced a small smile.

"…You always say that."

A pause.

"…Then don't."

Silence.

Adrian watched carefully.

"…Fascinating."

For the first time—

Kael's voice dropped lower.

"…You're testing limits."

Adrian replied calmly:

"I'm testing you."

The next second—

Kael moved.

Not through space.

Through the structure itself.

He appeared in front of Elena.

The barrier screamed—

fracturing.

Adrian's eyes widened slightly.

"…He bypassed it."

Kael placed his hand near the chains.

They began to dissolve instantly.

"…I told you."

Elena looked at him.

Close.

Closer than before.

"…You came."

A pause.

Kael didn't look away.

"…You were in danger."

Her heartbeat increased slightly.

"…So you admit it."

Silence.

Behind them—

the barrier collapsed completely.

Adrian stepped back slightly.

Not fear.

But realization.

"…So this is your weakness."

Kael turned slowly.

His aura shifted.

Darker.

Heavier.

"…Say that again."

For the first time—

Adrian felt it.

Not power.

Something worse.

A mistake.
