The moment Tez crossed the stone gateway, the sound of the river disappeared.
Everything became silent.
He looked back.
The enormous river was still there, but it no longer looked like ordinary water. It hung above the gateway like a shining wall, held in place by some unseen power.
Vaidehi stood beside him.
"Tez..."
"I see it."
"How is the river standing like that?"
"I don't know."
Behind them, Devadatta, Maitreyi, Aarav and Bhaskar entered the gateway.
As the last person crossed the threshold, the stone doors slowly closed.
THOOM.
The river above them moved again.
But instead of falling, it flowed across the ceiling of the enormous passage.
It looked as though they were walking beneath a river.
Golden fish moved through the water above their heads.
Strange plants floated between the currents.
Moon-like stones gave off a soft light.
Aarav looked upward.
"I don't think I will ever get used to this."
Maitreyi smiled.
"Neither will I."
Tez said nothing.
His eyes were fixed on the road ahead.
The passage descended deeper into the earth.
The walls were covered with carvings.
Some showed people praying beside rivers.
Others showed Guardians holding glowing stones.
But one carving made Tez stop.
It showed two women standing together.
One was his mother.
The other was Vaidehi's mother.
Between them stood a small child.
Tez.
He stepped closer.
"Why is this here?"
Vaidehi came beside him.
Her face became pale.
"They knew."
"Yes."
"But why?"
Tez touched the carving.
The stone suddenly became warm.
A small line appeared beneath the image.
Maitreyi read it.
Her voice became quiet.
«"Two mothers. One child. One promise."»
Tez stared at the words.
"What promise?"
The wall gave no answer.

Jalapuri
The passage finally opened.
Tez stepped forward.
And stopped.
The city beneath the river stretched farther than he could see.
Jalapuri was enormous.
Its buildings were made of white and blue stone.
Water flowed through every street.
Bridges connected tall towers.
Some buildings stood completely underwater behind clear walls.
Others rose above the water on huge stone pillars.
There were gardens filled with glowing plants.
Small streams moved through the streets.
Water wheels still turned despite there being nobody to operate them.
The city seemed empty.
But it was not dead.
It was alive with the sound of water.
Vaidehi whispered,
"It's beautiful."
Tez nodded.
"It feels peaceful."
Maitreyi shook her head.
"Don't trust it."
Tez looked at her.
"Why?"
"Places built to protect ancient secrets are never peaceful for long."
As if answering her words, a distant bell rang.
GONG.
The water in every channel stopped.
Then started again.
But now it was moving in the opposite direction.
Aarav looked nervous.
"That can't be normal."
"No," said Maitreyi.
"It isn't."

The River Guardians
They followed the main road.
Along the way, Tez noticed statues.
Hundreds of them.
Warriors.
Sages.
Women carrying water vessels.
Children holding lamps.
Each statue had the same river symbol.
Maitreyi explained:
"The River Guardians believed that memories were as important as weapons."
Tez looked at her.
"Why?"
"Because a person can forget a wound, but the wound may still control his life."
Tez thought of his own missing memories.
"Then they knew what they were doing."
Maitreyi nodded.
"They believed memories should never be destroyed."
"Only protected."
Tez stopped.
"Then someone broke their law."
Maitreyi looked at him.
"Yes."
"Someone erased mine."
"Perhaps."
Tez's eyes hardened.
"Then I will find out who."

The Hall of Water
They reached a huge circular building.
A river flowed around it.
The entrance had no door.
Instead, there was a wall of water.
Tez walked toward it.
The Guardian Seal glowed.
The water moved aside.
Everyone followed.
Inside was a vast hall.
A circular pool occupied the centre.
In the middle of the pool stood a large stone structure.
It looked like a mirror.
But it was not made of glass.
It was made of water.
The surface was perfectly still.
Maitreyi whispered,
"The River Mirror."
Tez stared.
"So this can show memories?"
"Yes."
"Even forgotten ones?"
"If the old records are correct."
Tez stepped toward it.
Vaidehi caught his arm.
"Wait."
Tez looked at her.
"You don't have to do this."
"I do."
"What if you see something you don't want to see?"
"I have already seen enough."
She looked into his eyes.
"Sometimes knowing the truth hurts more than living without it."
Tez smiled sadly.
"I know."
"But you still want it."
"Yes."
Vaidehi slowly released his arm.
"Then I will stay with you."

The First Memory
Tez stepped into the pool.
The water came up to his ankles.
Then his knees.
The River Mirror began to glow.
A circle of light formed around him.
Images appeared.
Suryanagari.
His childhood.
His mother.
His father.
He saw himself as a small child running through the village.
He saw his mother laughing.
He saw his father teaching him how to hold a wooden sword.
For the first time in years, Tez felt something warm inside him.
Then the memory changed.
His mother was crying.
His father stood beside her.
Devadatta was there.
And Vaidehi's mother.
Tez moved closer.
He could hear them.
"We don't have much time," Devadatta said.
His mother nodded.
"What about the child?"
"We must separate him from the Seal."
"That will erase part of his memory."
Tez froze.
His mother's voice trembled.
"I know."
Vaidehi looked shocked.
"They did it themselves."
Tez stared at the vision.
His father spoke.
"If he remembers the Seal, Vardhan will find him."
Tez's mother held his hand.
"I would rather have him hate us than die because of us."
The memory ended.
Tez fell to his knees.
The water became still.
He could barely breathe.
"They erased my memories."
Maitreyi whispered,
"To protect you."
Tez looked at her.
"That doesn't make it easier."
"No."
"It makes it worse."
Vaidehi stepped into the water.
She stood beside him.
"You were a child."
Tez looked at her.
"They decided my life without asking me."
Vaidehi answered,
"They were afraid."
"So was I."

Two Seals
The River Mirror suddenly changed.
The image returned.
This time Tez's mother held something.
A Guardian Seal.
She gave it to Vaidehi's mother.
But then—
another Seal appeared.
Vaidehi stepped forward.
"Wait."
The second Seal was identical.
Tez stared.
"Two."
Maitreyi looked shocked.
"There were two Guardian Seals."
Devadatta lowered his head.
Tez turned toward him.
"You knew."
Devadatta said nothing.
"You knew there were two."
"Yes."
"Where is the second one?"
Devadatta looked at Vaidehi.
Everyone turned toward her.
Vaidehi instinctively touched her pendant.
Her face became pale.
"My pendant?"
Devadatta nodded.
"It is not simply a pendant."
Vaidehi slowly removed it.
The metal began glowing.
A symbol appeared.
It was the same symbol as Tez's Guardian Seal.
Tez looked at her.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't know."
"Your mother didn't tell you?"
"No."
The pendant opened.
Inside was a tiny piece of blue stone.
The River Mirror reacted immediately.
The entire hall shook.
Water rose from the pool.
The ancient city began ringing with bells.
GONG!
GONG!
GONG!
Maitreyi looked frightened.
"The city recognizes her."
Vaidehi stepped back.
"What does that mean?"
Nobody answered.
Then a voice came from the River Mirror.
«"The second bearer has returned."»
Tez looked at Vaidehi.
She looked terrified.

Vardhan
A slow clap echoed through the hall.
Everyone turned.
Vardhan stood at the entrance.
He was smiling.
"I was wondering when you would discover that."
Devadatta raised his sword.
"You followed us."
Vardhan nodded.
"Of course."
Tez stepped forward.
"You knew about the second Seal."
"I knew long before you did."
"Then tell me the truth."
Vardhan smiled.
"You are finally asking the right questions."
"Who is Vaidehi?"
Vardhan looked at her.
"That is the question you should ask."
Vaidehi stood beside Tez.
"I am myself."
Vardhan laughed.
"Are you?"
He pointed at her pendant.
"Your mother knew what you carried."
Tez stepped forward.
"What does she carry?"
Vardhan answered:
"Half of the Heart's command."
Tez's face changed.
"Half?"
"And you carry the other half."
Silence.
Maitreyi whispered,
"Then the two Seals..."
Vardhan nodded.
"Together, they can open the final chamber."
Tez understood.
"The seventh door."
"Exactly."

The Attack
A loud crash came from outside.
The walls shook.
Black smoke entered through the windows.
The Black Eclipse had attacked the city.
Vardhan's soldiers flooded the streets.
Devadatta shouted,
"Everyone move!"
Tez grabbed Vaidehi's hand.
They ran.
Water burst through the walls.
Stone bridges collapsed.
The ancient city was beginning to break.
But Vardhan did not attack them.
He simply watched.
Tez shouted,
"Why aren't you stopping us?"
Vardhan smiled.
"Because I don't need to."
Tez stopped.
Vardhan pointed toward Vaidehi.
"She has already opened the door."
Vaidehi looked at her pendant.
It was glowing brighter than ever.
The entire river began rising.
The River Mirror cracked.
A deep sound came from beneath the city.
Something enormous was waking.
Tez looked at Vardhan.
"What have you done?"
Vardhan smiled.
"Nothing."
He stepped backward.
"You did it yourselves."
The River Mirror shattered.
A wave of water exploded through the chamber.
Tez grabbed Vaidehi.
Devadatta grabbed Maitreyi.
Everyone was thrown toward the exit.

The Hidden Map
When the water settled, Tez looked back.
The River Mirror was gone.
But beneath it was a stone floor.
A map had appeared.
Five symbols glowed.
Five hidden cities.
The third.
The fourth.
The fifth.
The sixth.
The seventh.
But one place was completely blank.
Maitreyi knelt beside it.
"Someone removed this."
"Who?"
"Vardhan."
Tez looked around.
Vardhan was gone.
Only his voice remained.
«"You cannot stop what has already begun."»
Then silence.

The Final Message
The city began collapsing.
Tez and the others ran toward the surface.
They reached the riverbank just as the underground city began sinking.
Water rose behind them.
Vaidehi looked at her pendant.
It had stopped glowing.
Then suddenly—
a small light appeared.
An image formed above it.
Her mother.
Vaidehi froze.
"Mother..."
The image spoke.
«"Vaidehi, if Tez has reached the second city, then the truth can no longer be hidden."»
Vaidehi's eyes filled with tears.
Her mother's image continued.
«"He is not the only one chosen by the Heart."»
The image disappeared.
Tez looked at Vaidehi.
Neither spoke.
Behind them, the river rose higher.
Then higher.
Until it seemed to touch the sky.
Far beyond the forest, another light appeared.
The third light.
But it was not golden.
It was black.
Tez stared at it.
A cold feeling entered his heart.
The first door had tested his courage.
The second had returned part of his memory.
But the third door—
was calling from darkness.
And somewhere beyond that darkness, Vardhan was waiting.
