The footsteps continued.

Tez stood at the entrance of the narrow passage, his hand around the Guardian Seal.
The old man had moved several steps backward.
That frightened Tez more than the footsteps themselves.
The man had faced the Black Eclipse without fear.
He had walked through forgotten sanctuaries as if he knew every stone.
But now...
he was afraid.
"Who is coming?" Tez asked.
The old man did not answer.
Vaidehi stepped beside Tez.
"Tell us."
The old man looked at her.
"Those who should have remained forgotten."
A cold wind moved through the settlement.
Then a stone rolled somewhere in the darkness.
Bhaskar raised his weapon.
"Everyone stay together."
But nothing emerged.
After several moments, the old man spoke.
"We cannot stay here."
"Why?"
"Because this settlement has only one safe route."
He pointed toward the passage.
"And that is the route they expect us to take."
Tez looked at him.
"Then where do we go?"
The old man pointed toward the mountain wall.
"Down."
Beneath the Forgotten Settlement
They returned to the central shrine.
Behind the ancient banyan tree was a stone platform covered with roots.
The old man pushed aside the roots.
A circular opening appeared.
A staircase descended into darkness.
Naman looked down.
"How far?"
The old man answered,
"Far enough."
Keshav sighed.
"I was afraid you would say that."
Despite the danger, a faint smile passed through the group.
They began descending.
The stairs were narrow and slippery.
Water dripped from the ceiling.
The deeper they went, the warmer the air became.
Tez noticed something unusual.
The Guardian Seal was glowing again.
Vaidehi's palm began glowing too.
"The mountain is guiding us," she said.
"Or warning us," Tez replied.
The old man heard him.
"Perhaps both."
After a long descent, they reached a massive underground cavern.
A river flowed through the center.
Beyond it was a stone bridge.
On the other side stood seven enormous pillars.
Each pillar had a carved flame.
Tez counted them.
"Seven."
The old man nodded.
"The Valley of the Seven Fires."
Tez looked around.
"This is a valley?"
"Long ago, it was."
"Now it is beneath the mountain."
"It has been hidden for centuries."
The Seven Fires
They crossed the bridge.
The seven pillars formed a circle.
At the center was a large stone platform.
Seven empty fire bowls surrounded it.
Somesh walked around them slowly.
"This place is older than the other sanctuaries."
"Much older."
Tez asked,
"What were the fires used for?"
Somesh pointed toward the first pillar.
"Knowledge."
The second.
"Discipline."
The third.
"Compassion."
The fourth.
"Truth."
The fifth.
"Courage."
The sixth.
"Sacrifice."
He stopped at the seventh.
"Unity."
Tez looked at the symbols.
"The same teachings."
"Yes."
"But there are seven here."
"The first Guardians believed these seven qualities had to remain together."
"Remove one..."
Somesh looked at the dark fire bowls.
"...and the Guardian becomes dangerous."
The First Fire
Tez stepped toward the first bowl.
The Guardian Seal became warm.
He held it above the bowl.
Nothing happened.
Then Vaidehi stepped beside him.
Her palm began glowing.
Suddenly, the first fire ignited.
A golden flame rose from the empty bowl.
Then the second.
Then the third.
One by one, all seven fires came alive.
The entire valley filled with light.
Ancient carvings appeared on the walls.
A procession of Guardians.
A young man carrying a seal.
A woman walking beside him.
Tez recognized them.
His father.
And Vaidehi's mother.
Vaidehi covered her mouth.
"They were here."
Tez stared at the images.
They looked young.
Not much older than Tez was now.
They stood together beside the seven fires.
Then the image changed.
Devadatta handed something to Vaidehi's mother.
A small stone box.
She hid it beneath the central platform.
Tez stepped closer.
"What were they hiding?"
The image disappeared.
Devadatta's Trail
A small inscription appeared beneath the platform.
Tez brushed away the dust.
Words emerged.
"The First Seal must never be carried by one person."
Tez read it twice.
"What does that mean?"
The old man answered.
"It means the First Guardian's Seal can only be awakened by two bloodlines."
Tez looked at Vaidehi.
"Mine and yours."
The old man nodded.
"But why?"
"Because the original Guardians divided the responsibility."
"One bloodline protected the knowledge."
"The other protected the path."
Vaidehi looked at her palm.
"Which one is mine?"
The old man said,
"Your family protected the path."
Tez looked at his seal.
"And mine?"
"Your family protected the knowledge."
Tez finally understood why their paths had crossed.
Their families had been connected for generations.
Their meeting had not been chance.
The Hidden Chamber Beneath the Fire
The central platform suddenly moved.
A staircase appeared.
Tez and Vaidehi exchanged a look.
Together, they descended.
At the bottom was a small chamber.
There was a stone table.
On it lay an ancient metal box.
Tez approached.
The box carried his father's symbol.
Vaidehi's family mark was carved beside it.
Tez touched the lid.
It opened.
Inside was a single palm-leaf manuscript.
Tez unfolded it.
The handwriting belonged to Devadatta.
"If you have reached the Seven Fires, then the mountain has accepted both bloodlines."
Tez continued.
"I came here because I discovered the truth about the attack on Suryanagari."
His breathing stopped.
Vaidehi stepped closer.
"The village was not destroyed because of what it possessed."
"It was destroyed because of what it protected."
Tez whispered,
"The sanctuary."
The next line confirmed it.
"The Black Eclipse believed the entrance to the First Sanctuary was beneath Suryanagari."
"They were correct."
Tez's eyes filled with anger.
All those deaths.
All those homes.
All because the village had been built above an ancient secret.
But the next line was worse.
"Someone gave them the location."
Vaidehi looked at him.
"The traitor."
Tez nodded.
The Betrayal Runs Deeper
The manuscript continued.
"I suspected three people."
"One disappeared."
"One was murdered."
"The third..."
The writing stopped.
The rest of the line had been scratched away.
Tez stared at it.
"Who was the third?"
The old man remained silent.
Tez looked at him.
"You know."
The old man looked away.
"Tell me."
"I cannot."
"Why?"
"Because the answer will change how you see someone you love."
Tez's anger rose.
"You keep saying that."
"Because it is true."
Vaidehi stepped between them.
"Enough."
She looked at the old man.
"If you know something, tell us."
The old man finally spoke.
"The third person was a Keeper."
"Who?"
The old man looked toward the seven fires.
"Someone close to your family."
Tez's heart tightened.
"Someone from Suryanagari?"
"Yes."
"Who?"
The old man did not answer.
Before Tez could press him further, a loud sound came from above.
BOOM!
The mountain shook.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
The Black Eclipse had reached the valley.
The Battle of the Seven Fires
Bhaskar shouted,
"They're here!"
The group rushed upward.
Black-clad soldiers poured across the stone bridge.
The seven flames burned brightly behind them.
The commander stood at the front.
But this time he was not alone.
A second figure stood beside him.
A person wearing the robes of a Guardian.
Tez froze.
The figure's face was covered.
But the Guardian symbol was clearly visible.
"The traitor," Somesh whispered.
The masked Guardian raised a hand.
The Black Eclipse stopped.
Then the figure spoke.
"Tez."
His voice was calm.
Almost familiar.
Tez stared.
"Who are you?"
The figure slowly removed his mask.
Tez's eyes widened.
He knew that face.
It belonged to someone who had once been part of his father's life.
Someone he had seen in old memories.
Someone he had trusted.
The man smiled.
"You finally came."
Tez's blood ran cold.
"You..."
The man said:
"Your father warned you about me, didn't he?"
Tez tightened his grip around the seal.
"Yes."
The man's smile disappeared.
"Then he told you only half the truth."
The Hidden Message
The seven fires suddenly flared.
A voice echoed across the valley.
Not Devadatta.
Not the old man.
The voice of a woman.
Vaidehi's mother.
"If the seven fires burn again, then the traitor has returned."
Everyone froze.
Vaidehi looked toward the flames.
Her mother's voice continued.
"Do not trust the man wearing the Guardian mark."
The masked man looked up.
His expression changed.
The commander beside him stepped backward.
"What is this?"
The voice continued:
"He was never the true traitor."
Silence.
Tez stared at the man.
The old man looked toward the seventh fire.
Then the final flame changed from gold to deep red.
Somesh whispered,
"No..."
"What?" Tez asked.
"The seventh fire."
"What does it mean?"
"It means..."
He looked terrified.
"...the betrayal is still happening."
The Disappearance
Suddenly, the ground beneath Naman cracked.
He fell.
"Help!"
Tez rushed toward him.
Vaidehi grabbed Tez's arm.
"Don't!"
The stone beneath Naman collapsed.
He disappeared into darkness.
"Naman!"
Tez dropped to his knees.
He looked down.
Nothing.
Only darkness.
Vaidehi and Bhaskar pulled him back as more stones began falling.
The masked Guardian laughed quietly.
Tez looked at him with fury.
"You did this."
"No."
The man shook his head.
"Someone else did."
Tez froze.
The man pointed toward the group.
"Look carefully."
Tez turned.
Everyone stood together.
Bhaskar.
Aditi.
Keshav.
Somesh.
The old man.
Vaidehi.
And then Tez noticed something.
A small black mark.
On someone's hand.
The same mark used by the Black Eclipse.
His heart sank.
There was a traitor among them.
The Enemy's Message
The masked Guardian stepped backward.
The Black Eclipse began retreating.
Tez shouted,
"Wait!"
The man stopped.
"Where is Naman?"
"Alive."
"Where?"
"Where you will soon be."
"What does that mean?"
The man smiled.
"You want your father."
Tez's face hardened.
"You know where he is?"
"I know where he was."
"Tell me."
The man pointed toward the mountains beyond the underground valley.
"Follow the seven fires."
"They will lead you to the place where your father disappeared."
Vaidehi stepped forward.
"And my mother?"
The man looked at her.
"She went with him."
Vaidehi's eyes filled with tears.
"Are they alive?"
The man smiled.
"That is for you to discover."
Then he turned.
The Black Eclipse disappeared into the darkness.
The Valley Falls Silent
The seven fires slowly became smaller.
Tez stood beside the broken ground where Naman had disappeared.
He felt anger rising inside him.
But beneath it was something stronger.
Determination.
He looked at Vaidehi.
"We are finding them."
She nodded.
"We are."
The old man approached.
"We must leave."
Tez turned sharply.
"No."
The old man stopped.
"We are not leaving Naman."
"Tez..."
"We came together."
"We leave together."
The old man looked at him for a long moment.
Then he nodded.
"Good."
"Because that is what a true Guardian would say."
Tez looked toward the seven fires.
The seventh flame was still burning red.
And somewhere beneath the mountain...
Naman was alive.
Somewhere beyond the valley...
Devadatta and Vaidehi's mother might still be alive.
And somewhere among them...
a traitor was watching.
Tez looked at every face around him.
For the first time, he understood the true meaning of the message from the hidden chamber.
The enemy was not only outside.
The enemy had entered their circle.
The seven fires suddenly went out.
One after another.
Leaving only darkness.
Then a single flame appeared on the far side of the valley.
Beside it stood a figure.
Holding Naman by the shoulder.
Tez stepped forward.
The figure raised a piece of cloth.
It was stained with blood.
Then came a voice:
"Come to the Valley of the Seven Fires, Tez."
A pause.
"Your father is waiting for you."
The flame disappeared.
And the mountain fell silent.
